Meet the owner behind The Queer Nerd 🫶

Hi y’all, I’m Roby! I’ve been obsessed with vintage toys, retro treasures, and nostalgic little serotonin boosts for as long as I can remember. I first learned how to “pick” at a young age, and now I get to use that eye for lost treasures to help these pieces find new homes.

Whether you’re buying something for your collection, your inner child, or someone you love, I want you to know there’s a real queer nerd behind the shop who genuinely cares about what I’m sending out into the world.

Thank you so much for supporting my small business. It truly means the world. 🫶🥰 by @the_queer_nerd

We had a fun little summer vacation on Batuu and at Disney, but it’s time to hit the ground running for Fall/Holiday season! 🍂🎄🚀

SO… WE’RE BUYING STUFF 👀

Vintage/retro toys, video games, trading cards, collectibles, and basically anything that makes you go “holy shit I had one of those.”

We’re looking for everything from the Y2K era all the way back to your parents’ and grandparents’ toys. Big collections, small collections, random boxes you found in the attic—we wanna see it.

No inquiry is too small, so slide into our DMs and show us what you’ve got. 👀

And obviously the Disney/Batuu pics are attached for the algorithm, attention, and because we looked cute. ✨🏰🌌 by @the_queer_nerd

For today’s Queer Nerd Pride history post, this one is dedicated to the queerdos.

The weirdos. The loud ones. The soft ones. The leather folks, trans girls, drag queens, butches, femmes, sex workers, street kids, nerds, outcasts, and every beautiful queer who was told they were too much, too strange, too visible, too impossible.

Last night, on a Saturday bleeding into Sunday morning, I was at Eagle thinking about Stonewall. About Marsha P. Johnson. About our ancestors who refused to disappear.

And here in Atlanta, I couldn’t help but think about the 2009 Eagle raid too. How far we’ve come, and how quickly history reminds us there is still so much left to fight for.

Pride was never just a party. It was a refusal. A riot. A flame passed hand to hand by people who risked everything so we could dance, love, mourn, survive, and exist out loud.

We keep that flame lit for Marsha. For Stonewall. For Eagle. For the ones we lost. For the queerdos who came before us, and the queerdos still finding their way home.

Happy Pride. Stay weird. Stay loud. Keep burning. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

Continuing our Pride series with one of our favorite artists: Keith Haring.

And honestly, it’s been wild seeing younger queers wear his art without knowing what a fucking icon he was.

Keith wasn’t just making cute little dancing figures. He helped give queer resistance, AIDS activism, sex, grief, rage, joy, and survival a visual language. His work was bold, public, and impossible to ignore at a time when silence was literally killing us.

After being diagnosed with AIDS in 1988, Keith used his art and platform for awareness, activism, and care. In 1989, he founded the Keith Haring Foundation to support AIDS organizations, children’s programs, and the work he knew needed to keep living after him.

Keith died from AIDS-related complications in 1990 at only 31 years old.

But his art is still everywhere: shirts, murals, museums, merch, Lego sets, and half the things y’all buy without knowing the history behind them.

So please know the name behind the lines.

Happy Pride, Keith. Thank you for every fucking thing. We still carry the torch you lit.

This Pride season has felt a little flat, and after talking with some friends, I realized something: so many of our queer heroes who are no longer with us deserve to be celebrated out loud.

A lot of us were never taught queer history, so think of this as a little queer history lesson.

We’re starting with someone who had a huge impact on so many of us: Howard Ashman.

Howard was a brilliant lyricist, writer, director, and producer who helped reshape the modern musical. He’s one of the reasons Disney didn’t just survive the late 80s and early 90s, but entered a full renaissance. He’s responsible for the now standard “I want” song that sets up the plot for our leading lady for the play/movie.

His work helped give us *Little Shop of Horrors*, *The Little Mermaid*, *Beauty and the Beast*, and *Aladdin*. And maybe his most important Disney contribution was *Part of Your World*.

Howard knew what it meant to long for another world. He was living with HIV while working on *The Little Mermaid*, and that ache to be “where the people are” hits even harder when you know the man behind those words was a gay man creating through fear, stigma, illness, and silence.

Howard died of AIDS in 1991, at just 40 years old, during a crisis made so much worse by government neglect and public cruelty….actually let’s call it what was a genoc!d!e of queer ppl…But his legacy is everywhere. In the songs. In the stories. In the queer kids who felt seen before they even had the words for why.

Please do yourself a favor and watch *Howard* on Disney+.

Happy Pride, Howard. You should still be here. 🏳️‍🌈
