☕️ arc review ☕️ #LegendLattesGraphicNovel

Thank you @netgalley @tenspeedgraphic for the ARC. I spotted the book in the wild @standaardboekhandelmechelen and had to show you guys the real deal!

I haven't read Legends&Lattes, so I was curious how a cosy fantasy would turn out in this format. But the vibes are there and the artists did an amazing job bringing the story of Viv to life. As you can see in the video the colours are so gorgeous and the edition has a map, beatiful covers and end papers.

At the midway point, i felt like there was a too little drive but then... it all kicked off and I loved how the story continued!

If you love cosy fantasy, this just might be the perfect graphic novel!

Thank you so much @Bindery_books for sending me this eARC through @Netgalley so I can share my honest opinion with the world.

I guarded my heart so much during reading this story. As many other women I have struggled with pregnancy and loss, but the message from the blurb spoke so loud to me, I had to give it a chance.
So if you feel that triggers already, maybe this is one to sit out.

This is a near future dystopian novel. 2086, a woman desperate to reconnect with her sons after being imprissoned for carrying out life saving abortions. Which are very much illegal. But then she is sold - people's lives are sacred until you are a nobody/criminal/poor/an orphan/...- to Obsydian, a power hungry tech organisation greenwashing their depraved hunger for power. Sounds familiar?

Heavy themes as abuse, poverty, racism, female rights, ... are so elegantly adressed by Inez Ray (@_bigbadbooks_): you feel the raw truth but yet she knows how to balance it out so it isn't overpowering the story she wants to tell. A story of humanity and compassion, of errors and forgiveness, of corrupting hunger for power.

I enjoyed reading this story very much. It's liked 'the handmaid's tale' (M.Atwood) & 'the circle' (D.Eggers) made a contemporary baby. Luckily unaborted. by @the_reading_kit

Thank you @delreyuk for sending me an e-ARC so I can share my honest opinions!

The second book in the saga chucks you right in where we left it at the end of Silvercloak. I had to scramble and get my head around all the names and places, as I hadn't had the chance to reread the first book. Quickly remedied, as Laura Steven has a summary on her Substack (check her link in bio) that gets you back up to date!

Trust and allegiancies have to be rebuilt, and the first part of this book, you really feel the different characters struggle. Slowly but surely you read how characters devellop. I was so glad to get more insight into Levan's youth. Auria gets a place in the spotlight and her arc is so good to follow!

I love how Steven mixes contemporary reality into her story and the ethical questions that rise with these complex situations. She doesn't shy away of letting her characters face turbulence. So it might not surprise you that this installment ends in a way you didn't see coming, with words from a character you had almost forgotten about. But it will make you want book 3 immediately.

Such a great second book with so much political intrigue, a bigger world and devastating plot twists.

Hope many more readers will enjoy this as much as I did!
