Every day feels like a fresh new assault on my nervous system.

New tariffs for shipping to the US to contend with, NZ Post pauses shipping to the EU, New rules on customs declaration forms, Oh wait, you can now ship to the EU again. But not Austria.. Cool, cool…..
El Niño is coming for New Zealand this summer (and the rest of the world apparently)will it be another wet summer or will it be drier than the Sahara and hotter than the surface of the sun? Don’t eat bacon… The list feel fucking endless at the moment.

I just wanted to make pretty jewellery, work for myself and connect with others over their love for handmade jewellery and Australian Opals. And eat bacon 🤪

I did not sign up to be a customs expert, international trade specialist, amateur meteorologist AND a nutritionist just to get through a bloody Tuesday 😂

Honestly at this point, I’m just trying to keep the studio running, keep my prices reasonable, keep creating things I love and not scream at the laptop when the postage goal posts have moved yet again!

If you’re also feeling like the world is just one never ending series of increasingly ridiculous plot twists, please know you’re not alone.

Well I posted this one in my stories yesterday and you guys lost it over it!! Thankyou 🥰

My lovely customer has been waiting patiently over this one. She brought me the idea and I brought it to life (after a slight mishap 😂)

Gorgeous pink/purple toned Australian pipe opal with those green and blue flashes we all love. Shes wrapped in 9ct gold with a 9ct gold border with the rest all sterling silver.

I’m completely in love with it and it will be a sad send off to her new home!

October is opal month and I’ve been saving something special for you. 👀✨

Every October I do something a little different. On October 1st I’m dropping a collection of over 40 loose Australian opals, each one completely unique, each one ready to become a piece of beautiful jewellery made just for you.

Here’s how it works, the opals drop on the website at 12amNZDT, you choose your opal and I’ll hand fabricate it into a piece of jewellery in either sterling silver or gold. Made entirely by hand using traditional silversmithing techniques and made just for you.

No two opals are the same. When they’re gone, they’re gone.

The drop is October 1st 12am NZDT only on the website!

Okay so let’s talk about the weekend market and just generally keeping it real with you because I think that’s important.

The weather was absolutely abysmal but the market itself seemed steady enough. Plenty of people around, which was promising! Here’s the thing about jewellery it is so deeply personal. What stops one person in their tracks does absolutely nothing for the next and my work is definitely not for everyone. But that’s okay.

I made one sale. $35. The stall fee? Yeah , nowhere near covered. 😅

And I’m sharing that because I think there’s this idea floating around that markets are this magical guaranteed income stream and sometimes they just… aren’t. You pack up your whole world, set up a beautiful display, stand on your feet all day, greet people who just flat out ignore you and sometimes you just come home with $35 and a lot of leftover snacks.

That’s the reality. And I’d rather you know that than think I’m over here thriving every single weekend. 😂

What I do know is that the right customers are out there but they just haven’t found me yet. That’s what keeps me going. ✨ by @the_silver_finch
