I went out on a spontaneous little adventure with @alex_oelofse and @ta_devs a short while back to shoot a personal piece on my obsession with this little bus. Such a thrill to take my little home on wheels past the majestic cliffs of the Swartberg pass. No sooner than I’m back in Cape Town, I’m already dreaming of my next road trip in @the_syncroholic

In case you hadn't noticed, I've fallen in love with this little bus.
I've never been the kind of person that obsesses about cars. You know what I mean, the one that talks about horsepower, torque and rpm's. I'm less concerned about these kind of details, and am way more interested in how a car makes me feel. And man, this syncro makes me feel a lot!
I grew up with Combi's. My mom and dad had 3 different ones over the course of my childhood so I have a very nostalgic connection to these cars. Memories of roadtrips, camping in the bush, and rugby games at King's Park just wouldn't be the same without a VW microbus in the picture.

I originally started this account while I was living in France. I owned a Peugeot Boxer which I converted into a DIY camper van. It was such a brilliant way to travel, and explore the French countryside.
When I decided to move back to SA, I knew I wanted something similar, but with one key difference, it had to be 4x4. There aren't a lot of options when you are looking for a van or bus, that is also a 4x4. For me the obvious choice was the VW Syncro. Nowadays they are pretty hard to come by, especially one in decent condition. I searched for a long time before I found this beauty. A 1992 Caravelle Syncro, the rare "big window" model of which there were only 89 examples ever made. In great nick, and already partially kitted out as a camper, she was perfect.

So this account, which was formally DeuxMilleVan, is now the Syncroholic. Still going to be predominantly roadtrip and travel content, but Syncro focused.
Also no longer based in France, it's time to explore Africa baby. Let's go. 🚐❤️
