Happy Year of the Snake!!!! 🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍Snakes are animals that are actually very dear to my heart. Strangely both my parents wanted pet snakes as kids (they weren’t allowed) so I grew up in a very pro-snake household. There was a stage in my life when I lived with Pythagoras the python (see photos 💁🏼‍♀️🐍) and … unintentionally … spent many a holiday in search of snakes; (the large yellow snake is called Crusty and lives in South Africa… don’t ask why he’s called Crusty). If anyone has a spare hour (or three) I could delve into the many adventures from this random time in my life travelling the world when snakes really were centre stage. What I can say is there is something so magical about snakes - their cycles mimic the cycles of women and of nature. The ouroboros is sometimes shaped as the infinity symbol (a snake eating its own tail) to remind us time is as infinite as it is not, as linear as it is cyclical, as tangible as a clock and as ungraspable as the universe. I loved when Pythagoras would get in an almost trance state before he would shed where his eyes would change to a dull blue before peeling to a shiny black. I loved putting on some jazz, pouring a glass of wine, and just watching Pythagoras sort of slither dance on the floor. To a lot of people this sounds like a nightmare but he was such a gentle snake and really it was therapeutic and mystical. So many people are scared of snakes which is a shame because generally they’re rather chill (smaller strangler varieties not so much the venom ones 🥲). Anyway, I’m so excited for a year of poised and deliberate transformation. I think we all can use this shift of energy and looking to the snake as a guide to see time in seasonal waves is most useful. 💚🐍💚 by @the_thing_is_wild
