“And in dreams, we will meet again”

5am - July 23, 2025

Our final night together. After 5 gruelling weeks of prep and 13 unforgettable days of filming, Nightstone wraps.

Emotions are bittersweet: relief we crossed the finish line, gratitude every shot is in the can, grief that this strange little family will never walk this path again in the same way.

What’s hard to explain is the bond that forms on set. You eat together, sweat together, freeze together, carry each other through exhaustion and setbacks. Share the kind of laughter that only comes at 3am when running on fumes, and the kind of silence that only comes when holding your breath as the film runs out. These bonds are untranslatable to life outside.

Characters we all loved into existence step out of costume for the last time, returning to fabric on hangers and words on a page. They’ll live forever on screen, but never be seen breathing air in front of us again.

It’s a goodbye that stings.

Final Night. 8 hours darkness. Last chance.

After a few weeks hiatus we return for one last night shoot to capture the final missing piece of the Nightstone story.

No safety net, no second try.

The schedule had to be merciful, the weather had to hold, the cast had to pour their souls into every take.

And against the odds, it all aligned and the story we’d all together finally found itself complete on film.

You feel the pressure, but also a privilege - the alchemy of fear and faith that movies are born by.

When dawn came, the film was whole. And it would never have happened without the grit, grace, and brilliance of this team.

Day 6 / 13

Nights 1 of 4. Filming Block 2.

If you go down to the woods at night,
You’re sure for a big surprise.
A frame to chase,
A story to tell,
A brave film crew with wide eyes.

When you’re telling a folk sci-fi in the dark, you don’t need to fake the atmosphere - you just turn the camera on.

The English trees have ears and for now, we whisper our story just to them.

Day 5 / 13

There’s something magical about stepping back in time - and for a few short hours, we got to do just that.

Filming on the 1940s–60s high street at the @bclivingmuseum gave us an extraordinary opportunity to create real texture for the village setting of The Nightstone Contacts. From the glint of brass in the morning light to the shopfronts that whispered half-remembered lives, every detail gave our indie film the kind of atmosphere you can only dream of on an indie this size.

With just a tight 3-hour slot, it was all hands on deck - racing the clock while preserving the quiet strangeness of the world we’re building. And thanks to the amazing Nightstone team-now-family, it all came together like clockwork.

Best of all, this day brought us all back together after a near 2 week hiatus and welcomed some wonderful new members to Team Nightstone in @jakealexanderwaring and @cy_ebert playing some suspicious locals.

Despite the early 06.30am call time and the late spring chill in the air, it was a shoot full of warmth, familiar smiles and many many laughs.

One day. One village. One memory we’ll be talking about long after the film is wrapped.

Day 4 / 13

The final day before we wrapped Block 1 of our filming and a day of many successes: audio recordings, new interview set ups, improvised scenes to add more texture, a shaven beard and so much more. Special thanks to Joshua Ford who waited patiently all week for his moment in front of the lens.

Day 3 / 13

A longer day than the rest as we shifted from the bright outdoors of Kelvin’s garden to the depths of his dark room. Day 3 presented us with all sorts of fun challenges, like filming night scenes in the day and blacking out all the windows of the cottage; moving into faster-paced scenes in the script and experimenting a lot more with blocking. A highlight for me personally (Alizay - 1 AD) was the latter and witnessing Directors Elliot and Zander zoom their way through the rooms of Fern Cottage and experiment with POV handheld shots on the ARRI SR1.

By day 3, we all grew to have a really great understanding of what was needed from each of us to capture the folklore mystery of the Nightstone, outside of what we had just seen in the script.

For the cast, each character’s motivations to uncover (or not uncover…) the mystery of the Nightstone really came through in tense confrontations and moments of vulnerability. For those of us behind the lens, the mystery didn’t start and finish at those who spoke of it. Instead, the spaces used in the story - from mysterious dark rooms creeping in the shadows, characterful lounges whispering their own secrets and cluttered hallways shouting for attention - began to really take a life of their own. We’re looking forward to you all enjoying our little ‘easter eggs’ throughout the cottage and hearing what you think.

Finally, we also had the great expertise of Lesley Weaver to ensure our characters were suitably roughened up from a night in the woods. Why you ask? Well, you’ll just have to wait to find out…
