What stands out to me about this image?

The final image looks like it required a complicated setup, but the idea was actually very simple.

I wanted to create a cloud effect, so instead of looking for an expensive prop or complicated setup, I used something as simple as cotton wool.

This was actually a setup from one of my livestreams. I suspended the cotton wool from the ceiling against a blue background, photographed the subject, and then took the image into post production. I added an overlay to the background and worked on the lighting and tones to give the image more drama and make the final result feel more cinematic.

And this is something I always try to teach photographers:

Think beyond what is in front of you.

Sometimes, the idea is not the problem. The problem is that we are looking at the available materials and thinking, “I don’t have what I need.”

You don’t always need the perfect prop. Sometimes you just need to look at an ordinary object differently.

Cotton wool became clouds.

A simple blue background became an entire atmosphere.

And with the right lighting, camera settings and editing, the idea came to life.

So whenever you have an idea for an image, don’t immediately ask, “What do I need to buy?”

Ask yourself, “What do I already have that I can use differently?”

That’s where creativity really begins.

I taught the entire process during my livestream, including the camera settings, how I created the setup and how I edited the final image.
