2026 has taught me a few lessons already. When I first started The Windscreen Guy, I thought the logo should be generic. Keep it simple, keep myself out of it. I initially made the logo with a lighter skin tone to reflect the area I live in and make it feel more familiar to the local community. But honestly, I don’t think that’s ever been a problem. The more jobs I’ve done, the more I’ve realised: I am The Windscreen Guy. It’s my face customers meet, my hands doing the work, and my name behind every job. So the profile picture has changed to reflect that. The gold tooth had to make it in too 😁🦷 Oh yeah, and the yellow T-shirts? Definitely not a good idea 😂 But Rome wasn’t built in a day. 🚗💥 WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOUR SON DID THIS TO YOUR CAR?! 😳 One of today’s jobs — a Fiat 500 in Colchester with a bit of a story behind it… The customer supplied her own windscreen, but unfortunately she’d been sold one that already had damage and was missing the entire encapsulated trim. She genuinely didn’t know — because why would she? That’s supposed to be our industry’s job. Then I removed the old screen… 😬 Let’s just say the previous technician and the primer had a very loose relationship with staying inside the lines. 😂 If you’re going for the floating-glass look, neatness matters! I fitted the customer’s screen, worked with what I had, tidied everything up and got the Fiat looking as good as possible. All the broken glass cleaned out, everything tidied up and, most importantly, one very happy customer. ❤️ Then she told me what she’d paid for the windscreen she supplied… I genuinely didn’t have the heart to tell her I could have supplied the correct glass, complete with the encapsulated trim, for less money. 😭 But then came the plot twist… Her own son was the one who vandalised the car. 😳 And the reason? SHE WOULDN’T GIVE HIM A LIFT. 💀😂 So now I HAVE to ask… 👇 If your son smashed up your car because you refused to give him a lift, what are you doing?! Being fully booked doesn’t always mean doing your best work. This Audi RS Q8 is a perfect example. The previous fitter had positioned the windscreen extremely tight to the roof, apparently trying to hide damage from the previous installation. That means getting this glass back out requires patience, the right technique and the right tools. Here I’m using specialist cutting line rather than metal wire, allowing me to work carefully around the vehicle and minimise the risk of causing further damage. I deliberately don’t overload my diary. I’d rather have enough time on each vehicle to stop, assess what’s in front of me and choose the right tool from the arsenal — instead of racing to the next job because I’ve booked too much work into one day. Some windscreens come out easily. Others fight you every millimetre. Either way, the customer gets the time the job requires — not the time my diary allows. 💯 🚐 The Windscreen Guy 🛠️ Right tools. You’ll never see this once the new windscreen goes in… 👀 And that’s exactly why it tells you a lot about the person fitting it. The old glass is out, and before anything new goes back in, I take the time to clean and prepare the aperture properly. Could I leave it? The customer would probably never know. But I would. For me, a proper windscreen replacement isn’t just about how it looks when I hand the keys back. It’s about the standard of work underneath — including the parts nobody will ever see. You can’t see it once the windscreen is fitted… but it’s one of the most important parts of the job. 👀🧪 PRIMER. Before the adhesive goes anywhere near the glass, the bonding area needs to be correctly prepared and primed. Why? Because that primer is part of creating the correct surface for the adhesive system to bond properly to the glass. Skip the preparation. Skip the primer when the adhesive system requires it. And you could be compromising the bond before the windscreen has even gone into the vehicle. A windscreen isn’t just there to keep the wind and rain out — it forms part of the vehicle’s structural system. That’s why I don’t rush the bits you’ll never see. Preparation. Primer. Adhesive. Removing contaminants from the bonding area is a small part of the job that makes a BIG difference. The finish is only as good as the preparation behind it. Anyone can fit a piece of glass. I honestly thought today was going to be a day off… The van was booked into the mechanic first thing, and the only job I had planned was a BMW 5 Series windscreen replacement at 5:30pm in Southall. Then the mechanic finished earlier than expected. So I thought… why waste the day? I headed over to Romford to fit a new wiper for a Mercedes customer. He loved the scent in my van, so I gave him one of my @kaorisprays before I left. 🌴 Then it was off to Southall for the BMW customer, who’d actually found me through Instagram (proof that social media really does work!). As I was finishing up, the neighbour asked if I could repair a stone chip on their Tesla. While working on it, I noticed the interior camera wasn’t connected and the mirror housing had been left in a real state from previous work, so I put it right. The BMW customer’s mum also went home with one of my @kaorisprays 🍒It’s the little things that make people smile. Finished the evening with some amazing food in Southall before heading home. One thing that stuck with me today was randomly seeing Jeremiah 29:11 written somewhere. Whether you see that as encouragement, coincidence or simply a reminder to keep moving forward, it felt fitting.
