Things I’m embarrassed to admit as a chronically ill and disabled person 🌚

1) I am not on any strict anti-inflammatory diets i.e AIP, FODMAP etc and probably never will be

2) Even though I post disability content on social media, I still get self conscious using mobility aids in front of my family and friends

3) I miss the career I was building and haven’t accepted that I may never be well enough to go back

4) I am in debt and can’t put any money into my savings

5) I sometimes do miss being able to party and drink with my friends

6) I have weeks where I don’t get out of bed till the afternoon and still nap during the day

7) I rarely go anywhere on my own anymore because I am worried that my symptoms will leave me stranded

8) I get anxious to show my better days because I’m scared people will assume I am lying about my worse days.

Get in losers, we’re going to parliament 👩🏾‍⚖️💅🏾🚙

Public Order Act 1986 petition & IPSO complaints link in my bio 🔗 Repost & Share!

Here we have another miserably ableist article by The Times because of course they have nothing else better to do.

This one honestly feels the most sinister by far, not only have they made multiple articles in their ‘welfare inquiry’ attacking vulnerable communities as a whole, but this time they’ve chosen to publicly target @maddytalksmoney writing TWO articles about her and using her image as the face of their so called ‘investigation’.

We complained about Poppy’s last time, which definitely rattled them and resulted in them removing particular manipulated quotes, but the IPSO’s surface level AI slop of a statement didn’t result in true consequences. Apparently you’re allowed to target disabled people as long as it’s as a group and not an individual. Brilliant.

So we’re switching gears! It has been brought to my attention by @laurenjayres that the core reason these articles are allowed to exist, because the current Public Order Act 1986 currently only protects on the grounds of race, religion and sexual orientation. No surprise that we’ve been left out, that’s the usual story, but we aren’t gonna be taken down that easily.

The petition needs to reach at least 10,000 signatures just to be responded to. It then will need 100,000 signatures to be considered for debate in Parliament.

We have until 7th April 2027, but I know we can do better than that.

The link is in my bio. Share it far and wide. Let’s do flipping do this🔥🔥

5 things that becoming disabled has taught me 💌

1) To advocate for myself.
I grew up being the child that would go mute as soon as we entered the doctor’s office, but after years of being forced to be loud to get any answers, they now likely wish I would shutup more often.

2) There is strength in vulnerability.
Being chronically ill means that I am often not in control of how I feel in my body and how that manifests emotionally. I spoke very little about my inner world before my health declined.
I now share not only with my closest confidants but to strangers on the internet as well
(hey besties!)

3) My body isn’t the enemy
I have always had a difficult relationship with my body image. I often hyperfocused on all the things I wanted to change visually. I now care more about feeling as healthy as possible and I am proud of what my body is able to push through. I’m really proud of my endo scars in particular.
So baddass!

4) Appreciation for my support system
I have a new level of love and adoration for the people who support me day in & day out. Watching your loved one go through such painful experiences is not easy, but my people never make it seem like it’s hard to love me and for that, I am ever-grateful.

5) Disability Justice is my passion
I have been an advocate long before I would have considered myself as disabled. However, now being disabled myself directly informs the work I do. I love intertwining my pursuit of the arts with my passion of accessibility so my job (creative access consultant & now very important sickfluencer) just makes sense ✨

I love collaborating and being a vocal advocate.

A much needed reminder to everyone (not just content creators) that captions & text over images are used for a reason! I know it takes extra time but it is so worth it & if you need extra help, let’s work together! 💌

Let me know what your accessibility pet peeves are and what you think needs more attention!🔎

Reasons the four example captions were inaccessible:

1) One word flashing captions are too fast and distracting to take anything in & the spacing between letters is too close together

2) Too small (Even some of my favourite creators do this and it saddens me deeply😭)

3) Contrast-Too light on a light background

4) Contrast-Too dark on a dark background

Reasons the last examples and the main captions I used are more accessible

1) Black background or outline

2) Large text

3) Readable, clear font

4) Edited automatic captions (please do not leave the incorrect captions because you find it funny 🤦🏽‍♀️)

[ VD: Tianna, a black woman in her twenties with dark red hair in a bun and clear glasses on, wears a blue long sleeved pyjama top with white piping. Her brown miniature sausage dog lays on her left leg. She gestures pointing upwards every time she shows an example of the text that reads “this is an example of bad accessibility 😟“ ]

Gonna be honest this one feels the most vulnerable so far which is why there’s only 6, hope it helps someone out there with a silly brain like mine🧠🫶🏽

Things I’m embarrassed to admit as a mentally ill and disabled person

1) I truly don’t remember a time I didn’t struggle mentally, even as a child I was extremely anxious

2) Some of my OCD thoughts are so absurd that I feel too scared to even say them to a therapist, even though I know they’ve heard it all before

3) genuinely never thought I’d be able to cope with being in a healthy relationship due to my main coping mechanism being isolation (Plot twist: I can)

4) I had a psychotic episode 9 years ago and I still can’t talk about the details with anyone. I don’t even let myself think about it for too long (Can’t believe I’m even writing this tbh)

5) I couldn’t cry outside of meltdowns until a few years ago when my chronic illnesses worsened, even though I had many reasons to do so before then

6) Due to alexithymia I find it really difficult to know what I’m feeling, I get annoyed at myself for being down for what feels like ‘no reason’

(Alexithymia: a personality trait that means having “no words for emotions,” causing a person to struggle with experiencing, identifying, understanding, and expressing their feelings.)

most people have no idea what to do during a functional seizure 🧡
so many of us are aware, hearing every word. this is
what I wish everyone around me had known
save it, and send it to someone who'd be there for you. awareness only spreads if we spread it

(use your local emergency number if you're outside the UK)
thank you @delyth.on.fnd for checking this over 🧡

Things we are embarrassed to admit as chronically ill and disabled people (collab pt1) ID’s below ⭐️

When Lewis @themedicalblindspot reached out to collab on these series, I jumped at the chance.

Even within the chronic illness community FND is still such a misunderstood illness, but that doesn’t make it any less debilitating.
I want to foster a community that doesn’t push people aside who don’t fit the typical mould of someone they’d expect to be unwell.

We all belong here 🫶🏽

1) Tianna: I sometimes stay up for hours at night reading forums about my own illnesses so much so that it consumes me

2) Lewis: I am fully conscious during my seizures and it hurts when people talk about me like I’m not there

3) Tianna: I now cannot imagine my life without my conditions and sometimes think it would take my whole identity away

4) Lewis: I sleep for two hours after filming a 30 second video and I still feel guilty about it

5) When someone says ‘I hope you have a good day’ in a time when I’m struggling, I get secretly frustrated because I know it won’t be

6) Lewis: As a man. I find it really hard to admit when I need help

7: Tianna: I feel guilty spending money on things that aren’t health related, even if they make me happy

8) Lewis: On good days, I feel like a fraud

Something a little different tonight! 🧚🏽‍♀️💞

Somewhat ‘hot takes’ from your blunt autistic and chronically ill bestie who will always tell you the truth.

1) I love gossip and refuse to pretend I don’t. If there’s a situation, I wanna hear about it, in fact tell me and my dog some now

2) I in fact do wish ableists the worst. If they can’t grasp how much disability can change your life, then they should be taught to :)

3) Some experiences are worse than others. Don’t tell me I shouldn’t compare. I already did & that rule applies to me too, I have it better than some people and that fact does not undermine my own, it’s just true

4) You don’t need to strive to be positive 24/7. Life is gonna suck sometimes. That is normal. Strive for neutrality instead & let yourself be human.

5) I don’t care how in love you are, it is not okay to stop putting effort into your friendships because you are in a relationship. I promise you’ll regret it later

6) People are allowed to grow. Vilifying someone for a minor thought they had 10 years ago isn’t the flex you think it is. (this doesn’t apply to most violent criminal behaviour, drop that h*e)

7) Being passionate about the things you love is not cringe. Embrace it! Who cares if it’s not popular yet? This is your life, live it!

You do not need to argue with your partner to know that it is real. Healthy communication shouldn’t hurt. You will disagree but it should you and them vs the problem, not you vs them.

Do you disagree/agree with any of these? let me know x

xoxo Gossip girl

Grieftember weekend part 1 over and out 💫

If you have no idea what I’m talking about, my dad passed away a week after his 34th birthday in 2015; his birthday weekend was also unknowingly the last time we all spent with him, so September is a really difficult month for me to get through.

Historically I have completely isolated myself, hiding in the pit of depression and anxiety.

However, the past few years my closest friends have helped me change that. In 2024, my longest bestie @priyyxo came over and bought lego flowers for us to build whilst having a movie marathon. There was no pressure on me to talk, we just sat, focused on building and enjoyed each other’s presence. I usually would have rejected this idea but I’m so glad I didn’t because it helped me move forward, I don’t even think she knows how much of a big deal that was. (Thanks Pri ily)

I feel the most free and myself when I’m by the sea so this year me and one of my other besties @lucybennettresearch went to her mums new caravan by the coast!

Lu never met my dad, but she’s been a big part in helping me keep his memory alive, she isn’t worried to bring him up in conversation so she feels like she knows him through me, so much so that he’s appeared in her dreams!

To honour him we did a cheers, watched his favourite film (Back to the future) which I hadn’t watched since before he passed & Lu gave me a surprise card and memorial gift.

It’s the little things.

We had such a special, relaxing weekend, I’ll cherish it forever <3

Next week I’m having a chill one with my partner but we have nice social plans unrelated to ‘Grieftember’. The anniversary of his passing feels less tied to him because it only became his day when he was gone. It’s just a shitty, stupid day.

Does that make sense?

Anyways, I feel really brave sharing all of this with you, younger me could have never imagined this is where I’d be years down the line. Parental grief is really fckin shit and I’ve worked sooooo hard to get here. I’m really proud of me :)

If you’re still reading, thank you, it means the world that you’re with me on this journey 🫶🏽

A lot of you resonated with the last one and voted for another round so your wish is my command🧚🏽‍♀️🪄✨

Things I’m embarrassed to admit as a chronically ill and disabled person (aka exposing my silly brain) Part 2

1) Due to having progressive health conditions I spend a lot of my time feeling terrified of my own body.

2) I often don’t have the capacity to shower so I have to rely on body bath wipes to feel clean.

3) I spend A LOT of time on social media and watching tv. I turned my screen time settings off because it made me feel bad.

4) I am so traumatised by my time spent in emergency hospital wards that I won’t go unless I’m forced to.

5) I avoid making social plans out of fear that I will have to cancel last minute and come across as a bad friend.

6) I find it difficult to take part in my hobbies after coming out of a bad flare. I love reading but haven’t finished a book in 4 months.

7) A lot of the time I have no idea what I want my future to look like. I put a lot of worth into my career before becoming unwell so now I feel lost without it.

8) I am afraid to have my own children because I don’t know what it will do to my body or if I can handle parenthood whilst juggling my physical and mental health.
