I pulled this out of my closet after @alysaxliu won the gold medal. I bought this pullover from a @hurley sample sale in the 2000s. I think it’s older than America’s newest sweetheart. Who wears stripes better? Me, Alysa, or a red panda? 🙃🤣 by @thealexko

I’m a day early for Pi Day, but enjoy this Italian pan pizza from @sugo_costamesa. Elote on the left, and the special 2 year anniversary slice on the right, topped with blood sausage, potatoes and sweet and spicy, let’s call it mayo for lack of a better term. Elote was great and even better when you hit it with the lime juice to counteract the saltiness. The 2 year anniversary had potential but lacked another element to balance out the strong flavors. #pizza #piday #early taken in Sugo Costa Mesa by @thealexko

Sort of a continuation of my last photo dump, as this was the second half of that day going to Nara to walk around more temples and see the famous deer. It turns out they’re hungrier in the morning when there are less tourists around and seem to be less aggressive as more tourists show up. Before heading back to Kyoto, I sat at the Starbucks overlooking the park, observing the hordes of tourists coming from wherever, buying biscuits from popup stands that dotted the park. Nobody asked for more #latergram photos of my vacation in Japan, so here it is. This involves waking up and boarding the first train out of Kyoto at 5am, riding an hour to the southern end of Kyoto to Fushimi Inari to an empty temple at 6am (virtually no tourists) hiking 45 minutes with a detour near the beginning of the climb up, multiple stops to figure out which fork to take, and then ending in a disappointing view because the shrine doesn’t really look over the mountain. The look on my face going down the mountain while all the tourists who woke up later, however, is priceless. #kyoto #fushimiinari #torii #japan taken in Fushimi Inari-taisha by @thealexko

#Latergram of my Japan travels. This is #nagoya. Lots of different things to see and do here. This was my first castle and it unfortunately was still being renovated after a fire damaged a majority of the main tower a few years before the pandemic. The grounds are massive inside. The other places that were interesting were the old shopping street, the newer entertainment district and the #Niseko Garden and Toyota museum. #japan taken in Nagoya by @thealexko

More random posts from my trip to Japan, (when I get around to posting them).
I started this morning in Tsukiji Outer market super early, arriving at 6 before any tourists showed up. Half the restaurants weren’t open, though I should have just went into something that was rather than waited. There was a local shrine that I popped into (not pictured) and then I ended up getting coaxed to eat at a random stall eating a mediocre tuna bowl, with 3 grades of tuna, served 3 ways and a side order of uni, which was delicious. There was a famous vendor who served this fish soup thing, but I wasn’t up for it and headed to Teamlab: Borderless to catch the early admission for their visual interactive playground space. The irony is that while the art has the ability to travel between the rooms and corridors, the show itself has limitations. Namely, walls. And there are small rooms with mirrors and it becomes a maze of funhouse mirrors which can feel like enclosed spaces as the music drones in your head. I forget where I went afterwards but ended up at a local joint near my hotel for some regional food. #travelgram #japan #tokyo #borderless #teamlabs #latergram taken in Tokyo, Japan by @thealexko
