90 seconds ain’t a lot of time to say hello (and welcome!) so here’s a little more about me / how I work:

- I’m a cat person, I won’t take up your session talking about them (obviously) but if you ask me about cats…well, you’ve been warned 😬🐱.

-I’m also a book person šŸ“š, there’s often always a stack(s) behind me. I would spend my last coins on a book, always.

- I grew up in Melbourne Aus, but have been based in the UK for 6 and a bit years now. I also have Italian heritage (you can’t half tell with all my gesticulating?! šŸ˜)

-I’m an inherently curious person and I love listening to people’s stories, but I’m also not a silent or ā€˜blank slate’ therapist. I’ve been described as both warm and animated.

-I initially studied to train as a dietitian as I loved both food and science (and still do) but it was always a choice between that and psychology.

-Ultimately, 8 or so years later, I found myself back at that crossroad and decided to retrain in integrative counselling and psychotherapy.

-The modalities or styles of therapy I draw on the most are person-centred, relational and psychodynamic. I’m hoping to also start specific training to work with couples, in the future.

-I’m passionate about adapting therapy, and the language and communication styles used, and working creatively too. I really enjoy working with neurodivergent clients.

-If I hadn’t landed here, I would probably have trained in journalism or worked in fashion. Writing and fashion/style (though consuming more sustainably) remain passions today.

-My go to comfort movie is the Devil Wears Prada (basic I know, but on brand with the above). My TV show pick would be Gilmore Girls, for the permanent autumnal vibes and humour šŸ.

-I absolutely despise small talk and saying things for the sake of it. I’m a big believer in being upfront: Say what you mean, mean what you say etc

So all that being said. The best part of starting this account and instagram all those years ago has been the ability to connect with people. To find community. It’s the reason I stay. So that said, if you’re new here, pop a message below. Say hello! 😃. {cont’d in commentsšŸ‘‡šŸ») by @thealimentalsage

Hello! I’ve started something new and thought I’d share it here >> With all the frustration with the constant changes on social media platforms…it’s left me (and I know many of you!) feeling lack lustre creatively and made me crave the nostalgia of old school blogging, sharing and that sense of community. Soooo with some major nudging from @farrahstorr and her lovely community, and inspiration from people including @emmagannonuk - I have finally got myself together to launch my own Substack ~ BEHIND THE FRINGE ~ There’s a little link in my profile and I’ll also share on stories too, but come on over and consider subscribing if you fancy a quieter space for us all to chat, connect and learn together šŸ¤.

#wildebride @thealimentalsage had her super stylish wedding nestled in the beautiful Royal College of Physicians. Camilla finished her chic bridal look off with our Hetty Mid Bordo heels. šŸ‘°šŸ¼ā šŸ¦‹ā

Thank you @lewismembery and Camilla for allowing us to share these lovely photographs.

Camilla shared this sweet message about her HW experience:

"I knew I wanted burgundy velvet shoes before I had any clue about what I wanted to wear for our wedding. So as soon as I saw the Harriet Wilde Hetty Bordeaux shoes I knew they were it. I fact, I bought them months before my dress. They were a showstopper on the day and extremely comfortable too, I didn’t take them off at all. I will treasure them for years to come."

Camilla + Alex, Edinburgh Elopementā €
ā €
-ā €
ā €
A beautiful and intimate elopement for Camilla + Alex to start the season.ā €
ā €
This day reminded me so much of @gharrington_va and my wedding; getting ready together, a small collection of family, an intimate meal, and calmly celebrating into the night.ā €
ā €
Having so much trust from Camilla + Alex from the first phonecall to create meaningful, story-led memories for them, with a strong focus on their connection, details and family meant so much.ā €
ā €
A gorgeous ceremony, held within a beautiful library, and led so wonderfully by @⁣natraybouldweds , where she got to perform her first legal ceremony, and what an honour it was to not only witness, but capture it in all its glory.ā €
ā €
The 2026 season starts now, and I can't to see all my wonderful couples from every part of the world.ā €

A wee library wedding ✨.

The only solution (in our minds) when two bookish introverts (read: nerds) want to get married.

9 guests, 8 living.

The venue: The New Library at the Royal College of Physicians @rcpevenue

And for afters: @tipoedinburgh

Add in one legendary celebrant @natraybouldweds & one infamous photographer @lewismembery .

And you have the core ingredients for one heck of a cosy winter wedding, and a day we will always remember.

 ———

These are last of the photos (for now!). In time I may write up a Substack post with fuller details of our suppliers, the many intentional decisions we made, some reflections and the stories behind the day.

For now, I have tagged all the main credits below / in the comments. ✨

———

Florals - @ochrebotanicalstudios
Hair and make up - @juliemcguirehairmakeup
Dress - @olanaclothing bespoke

Getting reading together ✨. A wee preview.
Can’t believe it’s already been a week since the day!

———

I shall be eeking these pictures out for a while but one thing is for sure - @lewismembery is a literal photography genius. Only he can serve when February Edinburgh weather says ā€˜no’, and the light is low.

It was also an absolute joy to work with so many gorgeous people and businesses for our wedding, and I’ve tagged those that helped us get ready, below šŸ¤.

Celebrant - @natraybouldweds (our ride or die!)
Florals - Sarah at @ochrebotanicalstudios
Dress - @olanaclothing bridal bespoke
Hair and make-up - @juliemcguirehairmakeup
Hair clip - bespoke creation by @kittyjoyas
Jewellery - @cartier and old vintage
Shoes - @harrietwildeshoes and @crockettandjones_official
Suit - @charlestyrwhitt
Venue - @rcpevenue

My 2025 book wrap up is here (a day early, you’re welcome 🄲). My Top 5 (harddddd to pick) in no particular order were:

Consider Yourself Kissed by Jessica Stanley @dailydoseofjess (the ultimate book about love and family with all the best East London and Australia anecdotes)

The Wedding People by Alison Espach @alison.espach
(can a book about depression be funny? Yes, yes it can. I’ve never laughed so much)

Fundamentally by Nussaibah Younis @nussaibahyounis
(Again, can a book about Isis brides be funny? Yes, yes it can. Only one person could have written this though, and that’s Nussaibah).

Happiness Forever by Adelaide Faith @adelaide_faith_pierrot (The most sincere, accurate and humanising portrayal of a client/therapist relationship that I’ve seen/read seen to date. It’s funny and heartwarming too).

Unsticky by Sara Manning @sarra_manning
(The ultimate noughties fashion romance, think devil wears prada with added darkness. I didn’t want it to end!)

*(special mention to Work Horse by Caroline Palmer @carolinepalmer_workhorse - recently released - which has very similar vibes of above and is set in my faveeee NYC).

*Edit: I’m making this Top 6 as I forgot The SafeKeep by Yael van der Wouden which was a breathtaking debut and my first full book of 2025. šŸ‘šŸ»šŸ‘šŸ»

Nonfiction recommendation for this year is:
The Odd Woman and the City by Vivian Gornick.

And that’s a wrap.

My TBR is still heaving from this year, so I suspect 2026 won’t be a year of new releases for me.

Happy reading folks! taken in Edinburgh, United Kingdom by @thealimentalsage

2025. The word for the year is STRESS šŸ™ƒ.
BUT…it was also the year I put on my big girl pants and flew solo to NYC (for the first time) to see @_alessiaferraro_ and @jemmabarry and the city was EVERYTHING I ever imagined and more.

Top 5 life experiences to date .

Thank you to everyone that nudged me to ā€˜just go’ despite the big T and associated anxiety.

Now the question begs - how do I find an excuse to go back? taken in New York City by @thealimentalsage
