One of the most intimate and meaningful moments of the Dance With My Father Luncheon is our panel discussion. 🙌🏾

It is a space where stories are shared, feelings are poured out, questions are welcomed, and comfort can be found in knowing you are not alone. These conversations often become the heart of our event, which is why we are so intentional about who we invite to speak into our community.

Eight weeks ago, I asked for a CT scan of my abdomen to rule out structural issues. I was searching for answers to one problem, but the scan unexpectedly flagged something in my hip.

That finding led to X-rays, MRIs, and ultimately a diagnosis of avascular necrosis (AVN). I also learned I have AVN in both of my knees.

Today, I’m having core decompression surgery. While this wasn’t the path I expected to be on, I’m genuinely happy to be getting it over with. I’m ready to shift my focus from searching for answers to healing.

This experience has reminded me how important it is to advocate for yourself. Sometimes asking one more question or requesting one more test can change the course of your life.

I’m incredibly grateful for my village. Thank you to everyone who has prayed, checked in, offered help, and loved on me through this. I know recovery will have its challenges, but I also know I won’t be walking through it alone.

After and before.
The second photo is me pregnant, moving through the world not knowing what was coming.
I lost well over 90% of my blood volume during childbirth from a uterine rupture. In severe hemorrhage, the median time from shock to death is as short as two hours. There is no survival percentage for what I went through because medically speaking most people don’t.
It took a while to see myself after. For over three years I was on the brink of a nervous breakdown navigating mental health struggles that came with surviving something that traumatic. That is part of the story too.
Surviving changed how I see myself and how I show up in the world. It showed me the gift that life is. And my daughter surviving too is a miracle I don’t have words for.
Creating again feels fun and playful. And after everything I went through to get here, that is everything.
That is why this page exists. Style is how I speak. Advocacy is why I speak. And my story is what I have to say.

A girlfriend asked me if I was starting to feel like myself since “The Rupture.” I honestly feel better than I ever have. I am loved by a safe man, my daughter is thriving, and my health is improving. I don’t know who I was then, because it doesn’t matter. And when I think about that, it means most of you don’t know me either. 🫢 by @thealisonedit

Expansion is my word for 2026. 💫

Since becoming a mother, I’ve been healing and learning to live in a body that changed in ways I never expected.

This season has required me to slow down, ask for help, and redefine what strength looks like.

Expansion hasn’t meant becoming more. It’s meant becoming more connected to myself.
