The Pelikan Hub left me thinking about why our passions matter.

There was something wonderful about a room full of people genuinely excited about pens, nibs and inks — sharing stories, trying each other’s pens, and enjoying the company of people who simply get it.

Perhaps happiness is partly about finding something that fascinates you, and then finding others who share that fascination.

Something wonderfully unnecessary to care deeply about. 🖋️

The PLP Jumbo — a big, unapologetically stout, old-school Indian fountain pen in green ebonite. Despite its girth, it’s a joy to write with. Fitted with a Kanwrite No. 6 nib, it lays down a generous, smooth line that suits the oversized character of the pen beautifully. A simple pen with plenty of personality.

Scent of the day — Xerjoff Naxos.

Honeyed tobacco, lavender and citrus. Rich and sweet, but with enough aromatic freshness to keep it from becoming too heavy.

For me, Naxos is also a great office scent for the fall season — warm, polished and comforting, while still feeling put together enough for work.

And most importantly, it simply puts me in a good mood every time I wear it.

I watched Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey yesterday and was deeply moved by it. For all its scale and spectacle, what stayed with me was the psychological depth of Odysseus’ journey — his endurance, restraint, longing for home, and the weight of everything he has lived through. The stoicism running through it is incredibly powerful.

Penning my favourite quote from the film. That idea — wanting something most when it is already lost or beyond our reach — captures so much of Odysseus’ journey, and perhaps something rather universal about us.

For me, a masterpiece.

Scent of the day: Lalique Pour Homme — a classic aromatic fougère that feels particularly at home with a shirt and jacket.

There is another passion of mine that has rarely found its way onto this page — perfumes.

I’ve been fascinated by fragrance for over twenty years. What began simply as enjoying beautiful scents gradually became a curiosity about perfumery itself — its history, raw materials, traditions, and the remarkable way a scent can evoke a place, a memory or a time.

In that sense, it doesn’t feel very far removed from my fascination with fountain pens. Both are wonderfully unnecessary things, yet endlessly fascinating when you slow down and explore them.

So, from time to time, you’ll find some perfumery along this Analog Path too.

And it felt appropriate to begin with Boucheron Jaïpur Homme — a French interpretation of India, and a wonderfully distinctive piece of vintage gentlemen’s perfumery.

Monday morning. Before the week gathers pace.

A cup of coffee, something good to read, and a few unhurried minutes with pen and paper. There is a certain luxury in being alone with your thoughts — not loneliness, but solitude.

This morning’s writing comes from Patrick Süskind’s Perfume, a passage about those who deliberately retreat from the world in search of solitude. Perhaps a little extreme for a Monday morning… but I understand the sentiment.

These little rituals are increasingly what The Analog Path means to me — slowing down, paying attention, and enjoying the things that make those moments worthwhile. by @theanalogpath

It has been a while.

Eight months since I last posted here, but certainly not eight months away from pens, ink and paper. Life got busy, other priorities took over, and somewhere along the way, The Analog Path became a little quiet.

So it felt fitting to return by simply doing what brought me here in the first place — putting pen to paper.

And for the return, an old favourite — my Waterman Carène, filled with Diamine Oxblood.

Good to be writing here again.

I often turn to Shakespeare when I want to write without thinking too much. There’s something deeply comforting about tracing words that have outlived generations — familiar, beautiful, and timeless. Writing Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day by hand felt like spending a quiet moment with an old romantic.

The Gama Kuyil, an old-school eyedropper, brings a quiet sense of nostalgia with it. Simple, honest, and built to last, it reminds me why these pens endure. Paired with Waterman Mysterious Blue, the writing feels calm, steady, and unhurried — perfect for poetry that has survived centuries.

There’s something instantly energising about Hongdian Coral — a bright, vivid colour that sits somewhere between red, orange, and sunlight. It carries the intensity of a true red, but softened just enough to feel more approachable. That subtle shift toward coral gives it a brightness without the sharp edge.

It’s also a very wet, low-viscosity ink in my experience — it flows fast, lays down colour easily, and stays smooth even with lighter pressure. Paired with the right nib, it turns simple strokes into lively, expressive lines.

I love the way it shades too: soft peach highlights in thin strokes, deeper saturated coral in pooled areas. A colour that immediately brightens the page and adds a little spark to whatever you’re writing.

The Majohn P140 continues to surprise me — a clear acrylic demonstrator that feels far more premium than its price suggests. The body is turned acrylic, beautifully clear and solid in hand, and the brass piston adds just the right weight and a touch of warmth to the overall design.

And then there’s the writing experience. The #8 nib is extremely smooth, with a generous flow that makes every stroke effortless. Paired with an ebonite feed, it stays consistently wet, reliable, and expressive — the kind of combination that’s usually reserved for pens much higher up the price ladder.

Brands like Majohn (and Asvine too) are showing just how far value can go these days. Price-to-quality is almost unmatched, especially when you see how confidently this pen performs right out of the box.
