Rainbow Mountain 🌈 Peru. The incline was steep, the terrain was unsteady, the air was thin. But making it to the top was the only thing echoing in my mind. Pushing through exhausted legs. Thank you everyone for the birthday wishes yesterday. This year has taught me some of the hardest lessons I’ve ever had to learn. It’s also taught me some of the most beautiful ones. Dear Riley,
Happy birthday. You would’ve been 10 years old today. Where’d the time go. Honestly I felt like we should’ve had more. I guess god miss placed it. Im writing this to you and to myself so I can never forget.

I want to wish you the happiest of birthdays. I wish there was a gift I could give you this year but all I can do is sit here and recall all the ones that you have given me. Thank you for being the perfect audience to the melodies of my guitar. Thank for never letting me fall into my dreams on my own. Thank you for showing me what it feels like to run free. Thank you for reminding me in my darkest time, even when I had nothing left in me, that the ordinary can still take your breath away. And thank you for loving me so unconditionally.

I know when others saw you, they saw just a dog. But when I looked at you I saw the other half of who I was. A piece of my soul, my best friend. And knowing your not here kills me inside. Like I’m drowning under oxygen. Every breath a little harder to take.

Im sorry for not keeping the promise I made to you that day at the dog park when you were just a puppy, scared of all the bigger dogs around you. I promised you I’d always be there to protect you from all the darkest things in this world. I’m sorry I couldn’t keep that promise when you got sick. I hope you know I tried my hardest. I tried so so hard.
