Kids at your wedding: YES or NO?

While I am working on my website I came across this beautiful wedding some years ago. It reminded me of one of the questions that comes up when creating your guest list:
do we invite (other) children, or do we go adults-only?

There is no right or wrong answer to this. Some couples love having little ones running around, while others prefer an adults-only celebration. Both can be a great choice — it’s your wedding, after all 🤎

But if you do decide to invite children, there are so many ways to make sure they have just as much fun as the grown-ups.
At this wedding, the couple created a whole little world for their youngest guests!

A few things I’d definitely consider:

→ Give them something to do. Crafts, games, colouring or little activities can go a long way.

→ Create a dedicated space. It doesn’t have to be elaborate — just somewhere they can play, explore or take a break.

→ Think about different ages. What entertains a toddler probably won’t keep a 9-year-old busy.

→ Make them feel welcome. A little goodie bag, some treats or a small surprise can make them feel part of the celebration.

→ Hire a nanny or babysitter. Because activities are great, but someone still needs to keep an eye on the little ones. Having someone dedicated to the kids means their parents don’t have to spend the entire day doing it themselves. They can actually relax, enjoy the speeches and be there with you 🥂

Happy kids = relaxed parents = everyone enjoying the wedding a little more.

So now I’m curious:

Would you invite children to your wedding?

🥂 NO — adults-only all the way

42 years ago today, they said “I do.” 🤎

Their love became our family.
Their story became our legacy.

Yesterday, we gathered to remember, to laugh, to love and to raise a glass to life.

I hope, wherever they are, they’re together today, celebrating too ✨

If there was ever a moment when my motto felt more meaningful, it’s now:

Let’s celebrate. Love & life.

Because love never ends.
It simply becomes a beautiful part of who we are.

And if there’s one thing this reminds me of as a wedding planner: never underestimate the value of your wedding photos and a beautiful album. Years from now, they may become some of your most precious memories 🫶🏼

A moment for the groom 🤎

Today’s unpredictable weather gave me a little flashback to this beautiful wedding day.

Because the weather that day was just as unpredictable. One moment we were enjoying the sunshine and cutting the wedding cake outside, surrounded by family and friends… and about fifteen minutes later, the rain was absolutely pouring down. Swipe to the last photo 😂☔️

Looking back at these photos today, something else caught my attention too.

When we think about the morning of a wedding day, it’s usually the bride’s getting ready moments that immediately come to mind. The dress, the shoes, the hair and make-up… all those little details leading up to the moment she walks down the aisle.

But there’s another side to those wedding mornings too.

The groom getting ready with his closest friends, putting on his suit, sharing a drink and slowly realising that this is it — today is the day he gets married.

Maybe a little less photographed and talked about, but definitely no less special.

So while today’s weather took me back to this wedding, looking through these photos felt like the perfect excuse to give the groom his moment in the spotlight!

Because his wedding day deserves to be remembered just as much too 🫶🏼

Another kinda chic destination wedding in Portugal? 🇵🇹

Well… yes. It was beautiful!
But this wedding weekend was about so much more than the destination.

Anne & Freek chose to celebrate their love with their closest people — less than 20 guests, an intimate setting, and an entire weekend that felt completely and effortlessly like them.

They are one of those couples you instantly feel connected to. So incredibly kind, warm and genuinely in love 🤎

For this wedding, I had the privilege of wearing two hats: not only as their wedding planner, but also as their celebrant.

And this week, during our post-wedding catch-up, Anne told me something that stayed with me. She said she felt so incredibly relaxed throughout the weekend because she knew one thing:

Kim is here.

And honestly, that is exactly what I hope my couples feel.

That everything has been thought through. That someone is keeping an eye on the details. That they can be completely present with the people they love — because they know I’ve got it.

And the best part? I didn’t feel like an outsider either.

Together with photographer @jamiedeleeuwphotography we felt genuinely part of this little group for the weekend. We laughed, we celebrated, we witnessed the tears and the happy moments — and somehow, by the end of it, it felt like we’d been part of their story for much longer.

From the beautiful Portuguese setting to the intimate moments shared with their favourite people, this was one of those wedding weekends that reminded me why I love what I do.

Not a copy-paste wedding.
Not a Pinterest-perfect performance.

Just Anne & Freek, their favourite people, and a weekend that felt completely like them.

How many weddings have you actually planned?

I got asked this question recently, and honestly… I had no idea. I thought fifty? Maybe sixty? So I started counting.

The answer? 88 weddings.

That number surprised me more than anyone.

These photos take me back to my very first official wedding in 2019. Looking at them now feels a little surreal. Before this, I had already planned two weddings for friends and family, and although I don’t count those as official weddings, they were the reason I realised this was exactly what I wanted to do.

Fast forward to today: 88 weddings later.

88 love stories.
88 timelines.
88 first looks.
88 ceremonies.
Countless happy tears, last-minute solutions, unforgettable moments, and the biggest privilege of all: being trusted with one of the most important days in someone’s life.

Every couple has taught me something new, and every wedding has made me a better planner.

So here’s to wedding number 89… and all the beautiful celebrations still to come. 🤍

P.S. Fun fact for those who love symbolism: in numerology, 88 is often associated with building something meaningful, abundance, and seeing the results of years of hard work. Whether you believe in that or not… I thought it was a pretty fitting number to reach. ✨

Summer is over, and suddenly… there are a lot of newly engaged couples out there 💍✨

There’s something about summer holidays — beautiful destinations, long evenings, a little more time together — that makes it a very popular time to pop the question.

So if you came home from your holiday with a ring on your finger: congratulations! 🥂

And before the venue hunting, Pinterest boards, spreadsheets and endless supplier enquiries begin… take a breath.

You don’t have to plan your entire wedding in the first few weeks of being engaged.

In fact, one of my favourite parts of my job is helping couples figure out what actually matters to them before they get swept up in everything the wedding industry tells them they need.

Your wedding should be a reflection of the two of you — not a collection of every beautiful idea you’ve ever saved on Pinterest.

And if somewhere along the way you realise you’d rather have someone by your side to guide you through it all, or someone to take over the logistics on the wedding day itself… you know where to find me 🤎

3,500 of you are here — so I thought it was time for a little re-introduction 🤎

Hi, I’m Kim — wedding planner, timeline enthusiast, professional calm-maker and the person who genuinely loves making sure all the little pieces of a wedding day come together.

I started The Arts of WE in 2019, and 88 weddings later, I still get ridiculously excited when a wedding day finally comes together.

Fun fact: The Arts of WE is short for The Arts of Weddings and Events. The full name was a little too long for Instagram, so WE happened, short for Weddings and Events 😉
But WE actually means so much more than that. I don’t believe in creating a wedding for my couples — I believe in creating it with them. It’s about working together, bringing their ideas to life and creating a day that truly feels like them. That’s the real meaning behind WE.

What I love most about my job?
Honestly? I love a good plan.The months of preparation behind one single day.
Getting to know my couples and understanding what matters to them.
Bringing all the right people together.
Thinking through every little detail before it ever becomes a problem.
And most of all: creating the space for my couples to simply be present and enjoy their wedding day.

Outside of weddings, I’m a mum, I love good food, travelling, wintersports and pretty much anything that involves a good glass of wine and great company 🍷

KIM & WESLEY 🤎

These two are your sign to have a winter wedding.

When people think about weddings, they often picture sunny skies, long summer evenings and outdoor ceremonies. But honestly? Winter weddings have a kind of magic that’s hard to put into words.
The cozy atmosphere, soft daylight, warm interiors, candlelight and the feeling of everyone gathering together create something truly special.

This beautiful couple was actually supposed to get married in May. But when they found out they were expecting, they decided to move their wedding forward to February.
Looking back, I honestly can’t imagine their day any differently.

It was intimate, relaxed and filled with so much love. A perfect reminder that your wedding doesn’t have to follow the “traditional” timeline to be absolutely unforgettable.

As a wedding planner, days like these remind me that there is no such thing as the perfect wedding season. There is only the season that feels right for your story.

Intiem trouwen in Portugal, bij het prachtige Casa Quintas vlak bij Ericeira. Dat is precies wat Anne & Freek deden. En wat een weekend was het.

Een intiem trouwweekend gevuld met tranen van geluk, warme knuffels, schaterlachen, lekker lang tafelen, mooie speeches, maar ook een geweldige roast, zonovergoten momenten en vooral heel veel liefde. Zo’n weekend waarop alles klopt en waarop je voelt hoe bijzonder het is om omringd te zijn door de mensen die het meest voor je betekenen.

Ik voel me ontzettend dankbaar dat ik met hen mee mocht reizen naar Portugal om al deze herinneringen vast te leggen. Niet alleen de grote momenten, maar juist ook die kleine blikken, spontane lachjes en stille tussenmomenten die hun verhaal zo eigen maken. En dat ik creatief helemaal los mocht gaan 💘.

9 weddings. Countless memories. 🤎

Looking back at my 2026 wedding season so far, I feel incredibly grateful for every couple who trusted me with one of the most meaningful days of their lives.

Behind every beautiful celebration are months of planning, countless little decisions, quiet moments behind the scenes, and an incredible team of people bringing everything together.

From intimate moments to unforgettable celebrations, every wedding has had its own story — and I’ve loved being part of each one.
