GREAT NEWS!

We’re delighted to share that we have come 1st in the 2027 Complete University Guide for Drama, Dance and Cinematics! This comes on top of already being 1st in the 2026 Times University Guide. We don’t want to boast, but we are clearly the place to be for your theatre degree.

To celebrate, we thought we’d share some images of just a few of the brilliant shows our finalists made this year for their practical dissertations.

We’re super proud of all their work, and if you want to follow in their footsteps, check the link in bio for open day info.

We're in our first week of teaching, and it's strange for the academic year in Theatre and Performance Studies to be starting without our wonderful colleague, Dr. Tim White, who retired at the end of last term. We had a wonderful celebration with Tim in Birmingham last week, full of lovely speeches, good food, and excellent company. Enjoy your retirement, Tim, and thank you for everything you've done across your time at Warwick. We salute you! by @theatrewarwick

What does it actually take to build a career as an actor?

Hear from Warwick graduates Tom Goodman-Hill and Ariya Amin as they talk about breaking into the industry, developing their craft and building a career across stage and screen.

Tom has built a major career across television, film and theatre. His credits include Netflix hit Baby Reindeer, for which he received a Primetime Emmy nomination, as well as Humans, Black Mirror, Mr Selfridge, The Office, The Imitation Game and Everest. His stage career includes work in the West End and at the National Theatre, alongside an Olivier Award nomination for Spamalot.

Ariya is an actor, director, and creative arts leader with extensive experience across the UK theatre and television industries. Her recent screen credits include the 2024 Call the Midwife Christmas special, Binny and Family and Tell Me About It. Her theatre career has included work with Birmingham’s Playhouse Theatre Company as an actor, producer and Associate Director, and she now leads three Pauline Quirke Academy branches supporting the next generation of performers.

Together, they’ll chat about what an acting career can really look like, from leaving Warwick and finding those first opportunities, to auditions, representation, developing characters, moving between stage and screen and sustaining a career in a competitive industry. by @theatrewarwick

The Warwick Force is clearly strong with @sheffieldtheatres production of King Lear starring Palpatine himself (Ian McDiarmid) running until 19th September at The Crucible. The cast features @jaysaighal (English and Theatre) as Cornwall and Milo Twomey (English and American Literature) as Albany, alongside recent graduate @oliviajbaird.sm (English and Theatre) as part of the Stage Mangement team. All the best to this trio for the rest of the run and stay the right side of the Force! by @theatrewarwick

We’re always thrilled to see our students take their work out into the world.

Here are four plays you can catch at this year‘s @edfringe, made by current or recently graduated members of our department.

Can You Teach Me How to Breathe?
@breathe.fringe

In. Out. In. Out. Can You Teach Me How To Breathe? follows four people trapped on a submarine, slowly sinking deeper into the ocean. Though eager to fix their situation, none of them know how. None of them know why they’re on a submarine at all. With nothing to do but wait, they begin to open up about their theories and opinions – only to return to the same sinking feeling that’s followed them all their lives.

Cyn
@lonelyshepherdproductions

Cyn, set in 1995, explores the consequences of colliery closures on mining communities across South Wales. We follow Emyr, the sole drinker on a bleak morning at the village pub. He is the son of a miner, who’s life trajectory had been scrambled by the closure of the mine, leaving him bitter and alone in his mid-twenties. Into this sombre setting stumbles Simon, an Englishman who is out of petrol and very, very lost. Over the next hour, the tensions between the two simmer as the past is interrogated and their stereotypes put under the microscope. The audience is invited to laugh, cry and sing along to the songs of Max Boyce in this fringe award-winning play that looks back and asks the question: Where did the heart go?

Dead Prepared
@deadprepared.edfringe

Two hapless funeral directors, Eulogine and Wake, attempt to teach audiences the art of a perfect funeral – if only they knew how. As their carefully laid plans unravel, the pair stumble through a series of increasingly absurd mishaps, exposing the strange rituals, expectations and performances that surround death. Blending dark comedy and heartfelt storytelling, this original production explores grief, remembrance and what it means to say goodbye. Inspired by personal experiences of bereavement and research with professional funeral directors, Dead Prepared invites audiences to laugh, reflect and find connection in one of life’s most universal experiences.

Congradulations to our amazing Theatre and Performance and English and Theatre students who've graduated over the past few weeks. We were honoured to welcome writer/actor/theatre director @nima_taleghani , who delivered an inspirational speech about the virtues of an arts degree. Nima was a student on the course in the early 2010s who has since gone on to great success on stage and screen, including The Bacchae at the National Theatre and Heartstopper on Netflix. by @theatrewarwick
