People see the final concept. They don’t always see the roots behind it. This NZ Warriors ANZAC jersey concept was built around the 28th Māori Battalion, with a special focus on D Company. As a NZ-born Samoan, learning that Pacific Island men were part of that story really resonated with me. That connection made this concept personal. The design brings together remembrance, service, sacrifice, identity and legacy. The @onenewzealandofficial circle is used symbolically as the sun, with the rays flowing outward as remembrance rays. This connects the front design to The Ode: “At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.” The koru layer represents remembrance, renewal, whakapapa, growth and legacy. The Pacific tatau details honour the wider Pacific connection. The red 28 honours the 28th Māori Battalion. During the research, I also came across Tofa Mai Feleni, connected to Samoan Jimmy O’Dwyer and Pacific Island men in the 28th Māori Battalion, which added another personal layer to the concept. Even the back design evolved after thinking carefully about copyright and cultural sensitivity around using historical haka imagery directly. The final direction became a sepia soldier memorial panel instead. This concept is more than a jersey image. It’s research, respect, trial and error, and a story stitched into the design. The 2007 Vodafone Heritage jersey has always been my favourite @nzwarriors heritage release. Something about that clean @aucklandrugbyleague V, the deep royal blue, and the simplicity of it just felt timeless. No gimmicks. Just proud Auckland rugby league history stitched into a jersey. When I started working on this Warriors Auckland Heritage concept, I wanted to pay respect to the generations before the NRL era. The old ARL jerseys, the classic V designs, the red detailing, the collars, and that unmistakable Auckland identity all played a part in shaping this concept. I especially drew inspiration from the 2007 Heritage jersey because it felt like the perfect balance between old-school and modern Warriors culture. I tried to carry that same feeling into this concept while imagining how it could look through a current @dynasty.sport.official -era lens. This was created purely as fan-made concept artwork out of respect for the club, Auckland Rugby League history, and the jerseys that came before. All logos, trademarks, sponsor marks, and club intellectual property belong to their respective owners including the NZ Warriors, Auckland Rugby League, NRL, Dynasty Sport, @onenewzealandofficial and associated partners. This started off as just a Matariki jersey idea… then somehow turned into a full kit 😂 Jersey, shorts, socks and boots. I know Matariki is on 10 July this year, but I’ve been working through this concept early because I wanted to see how a full @nzwarriors night-match kit could look if it was built around the story properly. I wanted it to feel dark, clean and a bit different, but still with meaning behind it. The 9 stars, the icy-blue glow, and the little gold details through the fabric were all about connecting the design back to Matariki without making it look too busy. One detail I really wanted to play with was the @onenewzealandofficial logo. Instead of keeping it in the usual green and white look, I made it icy blue so it felt like part of the night-sky concept. More like an eclipse or moon glow sitting in the middle of the jersey. Another detail I wanted to tie into the concept was the circular mark beside AUTEX on the back. I replaced the usual logo treatment there with a custom celestial and navigation-inspired symbol so it felt more connected to the Matariki theme and the rest of the kit. There’s also a Pacific connection for me. In Samoan tradition, the Pleiades are commonly known as Matali‘i, sometimes written Mataʻaliʻi. Same star cluster, different Polynesian language and cultural lens. That part means a lot to me because our people were reading the stars, crossing oceans and finding their way long before modern maps and GPS. I tried to keep the jersey as the main piece, then have the shorts, socks and boots support it rather than fight with it. The white and icy-blue ASICS boots were just a clean way to finish the whole look off. Still only a concept, but I’d love to see the Warriors do something bold, thoughtful and Pacific around Matariki one day. Would you wear this as a full kit? Concept design only. Game Day 💙❤️💚 Today I’ll be donning my 2002 Warriors jersey here in Germany for the qualifying final against the Dolphins. This one carries a few memories. Back in 2002 I was at Mt Smart for the qualifying final against the Raiders. I can still remember the second half when Ali Lauiti’iti came on and almost immediately crossed for a try. Mt Smart absolutely erupted. “ALI! ALI! ALI!” One of those moments you never forget. The Warriors went on to win that night, so wearing the 2002 jersey today is my little tribute to that game, that team and those memories. And the cap is a Day 2, which I was fortunate enough to get from @arny.collects. It complements the jersey to a tee. 👌 Different country. Different era. Same club. Let’s make another memory today. From COVID teammates to finals rivals. These jerseys tell the story. Given the qualifying final against the Dolphins, I thought I’d share a little piece of Warriors history. During COVID, when the Warriors were forced to base themselves in Australia, Redcliffe became an important part of the club’s survival and development pathway. Warriors players turned out for the Dolphins in the Queensland Cup, and the partnership became so important that Redcliffe later became the Warriors’ Australian base. You can see that connection on these jerseys that I am lucky to have in my collection with the Vodafone Warriors crest near the bottom. So with the Warriors now facing the Dolphins in a qualifying final, these feel like the perfect jerseys to pull out. My concept With the boys set to run out in the Te Taiao strip this Sunday, I started wondering what it could look like with a stronger Pounamu presence through the front 👀🌿 I’ve always liked the idea behind Te Taiao, but I wanted to see what it might look like with a bit more of that Pounamu energy through the front. So I kept the dark native bush and fern feel, but added a stronger Māori-inspired centre design to give it a bit more presence. Still Te Taiao. Just reimagined. What do you reckon? Currently seeing Jai Arrow’s bow-and-arrow tribute doing the rounds, and it got me thinking about the OG. It’s taken me a while to get this concept to where it is. It’s still not 100% how I picture it, but I’m happy with how it’s come together so far. This is my tribute to my Rewa Hard Uso @_henryfaafili iconic bow-and-arrow celebration against the South Sydney Rabbitohs at Mt Smart Stadium on 6 April 2003. 2015 ANARCHY VIBES? 👀 The first thing that came to mind when I saw the 2026 Te Ārahi Indigenous jersey was the 2015 Anarchy training jersey. Different era. Different purpose. But the bold black and red colour palette, striking Māori-inspired artwork, and overall aesthetic give me similar vibes. This isn’t about saying one is better than the other.
