@kidamsterdam has Buntut Bakar (Indonesian grilled oxtail) on the menu, so of course it’s high time I pay them another visit. Paired with Nasi Uduk (fragrant coconut rice) and Zweigelt from @julius_klein_wein, and it was heavenly!

The sambel had a proper kick to it; exactly the kind I was looking for. The wine had apparent cherry notes and subtle tannins to it. They said tannins don’t go well with spices, but this was exactly what I was looking for.

Add good company to it and I’d give it a 9/10! by @thebabysipper

Arrived late to dinner at @restaurant_barracuda_amsterdam and of course I had to be difficult.

While I was still on my way, my friend texted asking if she should order us something to drink. “Riesling or Gewürztraminer.”

She delivered.

We had The Daily August 2024 by @augustkesseler: bright citrus, crisp apple, and a clean mineral edge. Basically built for the salty, briny seafood situation happening on the table. 8/10. by @thebabysipper

Alastro by @planetawinery at @tonnaradiscopello, a tuna factory-turned-hotel tucked away somewhere on the northern coast of Sicily.

To be completely honest, we drank both bottles way too fast.

Between the heat of the Sicilian sun and the warmth of my friends, I couldn’t squeeze in a minute for a proper tasting. If memory serves me right, there were notes of stone fruit and white flowers, but the moment proved more fixating than the wine.

Verdict? Great time/10 ✨💕 by @thebabysipper

Food is Vietnamese, wine Hungarian 🫦

My dear friend Anh whipped up some pork and mushroom bánh cuốn for dinner, and it was immaculate.

I was ecstatic to finally find a pairing worthy of the Dszús 2022 from @barnagwines. Made from Kékfrankos and Cabernet Sauvignon, it’s the most gorgeous shade of pink: medium-bodied with high acidity, showing notes of cherry, cranberry, and a subtle smokiness. Slightly chilled, it beautifully cut through the shallot oil and complemented the richness of the fish sauce.

Jolie sure wanted some. by @thebabysipper

Had the best time at @kidamsterdam with old friends, eating well and drinking Le Monde Près from @bonyvresse. What an exciting white.

Medium-bodied, very dry, and floral, with notes of pear, white flowers, a touch of honey, and a little nuttiness. Quite mineral too, and lower in acidity than I expected. Very much a Macabeu-led wine to me, with the Mediterranean lift of Grenache Blanc and Vermentino, plus just a bit of funk.

We had a medley of dishes with wildly different flavor profiles that wouldn’t traditionally be paired with this wine, but somehow it all came together. And with the amount of beurre blanc I had that evening, this wine made it all go down suspiciously easily.

The Working Glass #2

Not technically a glass of wine offered at work, but I did borrow the glasses from work.

The wine itself is courtesy of my sweet colleagues in the video, who got me a gift card to @rebelwinesamsterdam for my birthday. This was one of the bottles I picked up with it.

Pair by @berryalthoff. A very interesting red blend of Cinsault and Grenache, with notes of cherry, blueberry, and redcurrant. I think I also got some herbs and maybe even a bit of leather?

In any case, 9/10—because any wine shared in good company is at least a 9. #wine #winetasting by @thebabysipper

Not sure what’s more mind-blowing: the Sur Le Bouchet by @domaine_clos_epinay, or getting a spot at @tweeprinsen on a Friday evening.

I do love a good Chenin Blanc. Crisp, with notes of apricot, wet stone, salinity, and a bit of funk. One of my favorite whites in a while, I think. 8/10.

My first love: Kriek Boon by @brouwerij_boon 🍒

Before wine, there was kriek lambic. This used to be my go-to drink.

I still remember visiting the brewery in Halle in 2017 and being fascinated by how much difference a handful of Schaerbeek cherries and spontaneous fermentation can make to the color and flavor of a beer.

The lambic ages in oak barrels for about 18 months before whole cherries are added. Together they go through another six months of refermentation.

The result? A juicy, jammy liquid that keeps you coming back for more. An easy 10/10 from me. by @thebabysipper

The Working Glass #1

Every Thursday my office organizes networking drinks, and I’ve decided to review whatever wine they’re pouring that week.

This week’s white is Pinot Grigio Alto Adige by @franz_haas_winery. Grown in Südtirol, the wine shows prominent floral and fruity notes. I get stone fruits, melon, and maybe some pear.

With a touch of minerality and fresh acidity, it’s a nice and easy drink for warmer days. 7.2/10. by @thebabysipper

Not wine-led, but check how cute this spot is! First time at @schout_bij_nacht_ and I had their €28 week menu: a main, a side, and a glass of wine.

The main of the week was hake with beurre blanc, shellfish, and sourdough.

They suggested a white for the pairing, but it wasn’t for me, so I went with the light red by the glass instead: Lezèr by @agricolaforadori, made from 100% Teroldego. Grown in the Dolomites, this wine is typical of high-elevation wines in its freshness and acidity.

The lightness and finish feel almost like a mix between a rosé and Beaujolais (Nouveau), as it retains some bitterness at the end. Note-wise, I’d say young strawberry and raspberry with an earthiness to it. Nose-wise, it leans mostly peppery.

As much as I’m a sucker for light reds, I’d give this one a 7/10. Probably something I’d enjoy more in the summer. by @thebabysipper
