Over the years, The Bakery has been home to some of the best dance music parties in the city; they need a licence change to continue. This venue has consistently hosted events for underrepresented artists and communities. Please sign to show the council the demand for this venue so that they can continue. Nestled in the heart of Kensington, Liverpool, The Bakery has long been a beloved institution for those on the city's 'fringe'. This unique grassroots venue, with its welcoming atmosphere and vibrant energy, has been a haven for FLINTA community members, queer individuals, and global majority musicians, artists, DJs, and promoters. With its distinctive size and strategic location, The Bakery offers a safe and inclusive space where creativity flourishes and diverse voices can be heard. It's not just a venue; it's a community lifeline.

However, The Bakery is currently faced with a significant challenge: it needs change of use and premises licence approval to continue operating as the vital cultural hub it has become. Without this approval, The Bakery's future is uncertain, threatening to silence the important platform it provides to underrepresented artists and communities. We cannot let this pillar of creativity be compromised at a time when inclusive spaces are more crucial than ever.

Statistics show that 40% of small music venues in the UK face closure due to licensing restrictions, impacting local economies and diverse cultural expression. The Bakery stands out with its unique ability to draw crowds from various backgrounds, promoting cultural understanding and showcasing diverse talents that might otherwise be overlooked. It enriches Liverpool's cultural fabric, providing economic benefits through local tourism and employment opportunities.

We urge Liverpool City Council to consider the profound impact The Bakery has on our community and approve its change of use and premises licence. Doing so will ensure that this culturally significant venue can continue to support emerging artists and serve as a safe space for expression and acceptance.

Join us in preserving The Bakery by signing this petition. Your support is vital to keep this essential community venue alive and thriving. by @thebakeryvenue

Will you sign our petition to say you support The Bakery? Clickable link on Linktree https://c.org/VF9MSBFMjy Despite fake rumours in the past (to do with some people not paying their bills) The Bakery is factually and actually now under threat from Liverpool City Council. Will you sign our petition? You could also DM us with a message of support that we can take to our licensing meeting on 21st October. Save The Bakery! by @thebakeryvenue

It’s finally time.

This November 7th, please join us @thebakeryvenue to see who will be crowned this year’s winner of the Existing Loudly prize of £250, to go towards developing their art practice.

Our 8 remaining artists will have only 2 hours to produce a new piece, inspired by a theme that we will not announce until the night of the main event! Guess you’ll have to be there to find out,,,
You’ll have front row access to live painting, drawing, poetry and cabaret, followed by a chance to cast your vote for your favourite piece.

Tix are on the door only so there’s no pressure to commit now, although you’d be a fool to miss it. More details to follow but for now? Save the date, just for us 🤍

See you on the 7th of November, 7pm, at The Bakery!!

Love,

The OFFSHORE tour I’m embarking on in October is as much about music as it is about linking with and getting to know artists making work about what it means to be Black in Britian today, from Liverpool to London to Glasgow!

I’m so happy to have these four incredibly talented Liverpool based artists as part of the show on the 19th October 2026, taking place at @thebakeryvenue

@amberakaunu will be bringing a visual element to the night, screening short films and exhibiting prints!

@andre.jahnoi will be performing a live decolonial hip-hop set!

@blvk.velvet will be spinning a eclectic dj set!

@keyoshiwarrior will be performing poems and weaving words

Tickets in the usual place, come along and be a part of a one night only affair!

Amber Akaunu is a Liverpool born Nigerian-German filmmaker working in cinema and art to document and imagine Black regional stories. Her work has previously exhibited at Liverpool Biennial (BEDROCK, 2025) and screened at London Short Film Festival (Bonded 3.0, 2024). Her creative practice extends to her role as co-founder of ROOT-ed Zine (2017-2024) where she worked to support Black, Asian and Global Majority artists in the North West of England through publishing, workshops, guest lectures, curating and producing. Amber holds a BA in Fine Art and an MA in Film and was awarded the BAFTA Kirsh scholarship for her postgraduate studies at Goldsmiths, UoL.

André Jahnoi is a Liverpool-born hip-hop artiste and organiser whose insurrectionary sound and philosophy are heavily influenced by his Afro-Jamaican heritage. He describes his music as decolonial, using lyricism as a means of challenging the babylon systems that bound the ways we imagine the world and our place in it.
Channelling inspirations ranging from Damian Marley to Lil Wayne to Walter Rodney, André’s music combines Caribbean rhythm, wheel-and-come wordplay and radical Rastafari thought to provide the crucial soundtrack to the revolution, with love and liberation the key themes of his work.
His live sets integrate call-and-response battle cries borrowed from freedom movements across the globe to create a momentary oasis of connection and hope for crowds from Liverpool to New Y taken in Liverpool, United Kingdom by @thebakeryvenue
