Fight or Flight is 90 minutes of laughs, gore, and stunts. It’s got everything I want in an action movie; exaggerated tropes, acrobatic fights scenes, ethical provocation, and a lottttt of fake blood. The acting is impeccable and Josh Hartnett and Charithra Chandran command your attention through their action, wit, and heartfelt performances. If you like John Wick, Ready or Not, and Bodies Bodies Bodies then you DEFINITELY want to check out @fightorflightmovie. Now playing in theaters!

Rating: 🏆 most excellent

I woke up and chose violence with some of these choices 😂 But here is a roundup of movies that I thought I was going to LOVE and then… didn’t…. 😬 by @thebasiccinephile

Special agent Lee Harker is tasked with an assignment; decode a series of cryptic letters from an active serial killer who calls himself Longlegs before he has the chance to kill another family. Her quasi-psychic abilities give her an edge and she quickly gains insight into the case that no other agents have been able to see. However, the line between discovery and memory becomes blurred and the straightforward investigation heads in an unpredictable and terrifying direction.

HOLY SH*T NICOLAS CAGE!!!!!! Okay, now that that’s out of my system I can properly launch into reviewing Longlegs, a film so captivating that I’ve seen it 2 times in 4 days and I’m already planning to see it again.

Longlegs isn’t trying to reinvent the wheel. It sticks to its guns and executes it flawlessly. The film hinges on 3 components: incredible acting, artistic sound design, and a nuanced balance of suspense and jump scares.

Lisa is really going through it. As if high school isn’t hard enough, she’s having to navigate it without her mother. Her step sister is the poster child for popularity, and her image obsessed step mother just doesn’t get Lisa’s quirky, macabre sensibilities. One fateful night when Lisa’s crush, a Victorian cadaver whose gravesite she visits regularly, is reanimated the two set off on a murderous adventure to bring his body fully into the 20th century.

This film is fun, over-the-top, and the perfect combination of camp and gore. Cole Sprouse drips swaggy sex appeal in a way that only he can pull off while playing a mute, rotting corpse. Kathryn Newton carries the film with her awkward charm and somehow makes a completely unbelievable character totally relatable. Liza Soberano put a fun twist on the perfect step sister. She’s never a bully, just beautifully unrelatable and never fully trustworthy. Joe Chrest, aka Ted Wheeler from Stranger Things, is the quintessential disengaged dad and I am fully here for him being typecast in this role forever. Overall, Lisa Frankenstein is a blast. If you are a fan of My Best Friend’s Exorcism, or anything by Tim Burton, this movie is definitely for you!

Happy 5 year anniversary 🥳 In true adhd fashion, it was actually yesterday and I missed it 🤦🏻‍♀️ But honestly, who cares? 😂 Anyways, I haven’t been active on here for the last year because I’ve been busy getting a second masters degree in Cultural Studies and Media Studies and there’s a good chance that I’ll go on to get a PhD. I love talking about movies and history so much that I’m trying to make a career out of it! Hopefully Professor Z will be coming to a college campus near you 👩🏻‍🏫 by @thebasiccinephile

Fun fact: Ari Aster is one of my favorite directors and Hereditary is one of my favorite movies 👑

Saw him do an interview at The Aero Theatre and even though the interviewer was an a$*hole, Ari handled it well and gave a great interview.

I’m with you Ari, if I look over and see some random naked man looking at me, I wouldn’t like that either 😂

Tears are still rolling down my cheek as I write this. The finale of Daisy Jones & The Six satisfied me in a way that I’ve never quite experienced from a show. SPOILER ALERT! This review contains spoilers.

The series focuses on a fictional band that rose to monumental fame and broke up unexpectedly, seemingly overnight. We are introduced to the band through a series of filmed interviews where they are asked to tell their story of what really happened to the band.

Throughout the show, I kept thinking to myself “I want to hate this, but I like it,”. Paradoxically I was also thinking “I want to like this, but I hate it”. I kept waiting for the balance to teeter definitively in one direction, but the oscillation persisted. I loved the “swampy” music, the crunchy 70s glam, and the ensemble cast. Yet it all felt a bit forced, like a less-good version of Almost Famous. I never bought the lead singers Daisy (Riley Keough) and Billy’s (Sam Claflin) diabolical romance, or the 90’s VH1 style “Where are they now” documentary setup. But something about the show kept me coming back for more.

Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story is the spin-off series that revolves around Queen Charlotte in her younger years. She’s on her way to marry a King she doesn’t know in a foreign land she has never been to. This TV mini-series takes us on a journey of Queen Charlotte’s rise to power and how she becomes the woman she is in Bridergton, and also the love story between herself and King George.

Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story is a wonderfully brilliant, beautifully tragic, and heartwarming Bridgerton spin-off mini-series. I loved every moment of this TV show, even more so than Bridgerton itself. What drew my attention more to this series, and why I loved it so much, was that it was based loosely on the real story of King George III and Queen Charlotte. I wish we got more of young Queen Charlotte and King George instead of a mini-series. Still, I thoroughly enjoyed this spectacular story of how Queen Charlotte became the Queen Charlotte some of us know and love from Bridgerton. I quite liked not only seeing Queen Charlotte in her younger years but it was fun seeing Lady Danbury and Lady Violet as well.
