On February 6th, 2026, my father passed peacefully, surrounded by his children, his wife, and his youngest sister.

His journey with cancer was noble and unique, to say the least. He lived life by his own rules, and this diagnosis certainly wasn’t going to change that.

As we approach what would have been his 74th birthday on November 9th, many emotions have come to the surface, as you can imagine. I wanted to find a way to make this one meaningful.

Starting tomorrow, October 9th, I’ll be committing to 31 days sober while training for a half marathon, which I’ll be running on November 8th, the day before his birthday.

Throughout this journey, I’ll be raising money through BC Children’s Hospital Foundation, with all funds raised going towards the PROFYLE initiative, which focuses on advancing personalized treatment options for children and young adults facing hard-to-treat cancers.

The links to donate and sign up to join me for all or part of the run are in my bio. Thank you all for taking the time to watch my video and for supporting this in whatever way you can. Whether that’s donating, sharing, or joining me for a few kilometres, it truly means so much.

My hope is that, through this, another family might get those five more minutes. by @thebawb.ca
