I don’t know if I can put into words how meaningful this show was to me. It was when Instagram was filled with connection, art and creativity… a platform that allowed artists to admire one another’s work, to share and create stories , and enable a sense of community. The premise: a pair of artists who followed one another and shared a friendship on Instagram, but who had never met in person ,would each start a work by creating a character that embodied their work. Then they would ship it to the other artist who would collaborate and add their own character. In the end a group of eclectic works of “ Friends That Never Met” by @thebenchgallery

Then we had the wonderful world of @mrhooperart - Mr. Hooper hails from Nashville, Tennessee and I became familiar with his work when I had a show there. He creates a cast of wild characters of anthropomorphic animals and humans. Definitely check out his work. by @thebenchgallery

“Bench Warmers 1” - in 2017 most, if not all, the employees at @fayesvideo were also artists or makers. We decided that during the shops anniversary we would have a group show of the staff. Thus began the “bench warmers” tradition. Tati and Greer are not on Instagram. by @thebenchgallery

May 2017 - falling in love with his illustrations on Instagram I took a chance and asked UK artist @dickvincent if he wanted to show our space. Luckily he said yes and his food themed illustrations were a delight. by @thebenchgallery

It was such a joy to have @emilylfromm showing in the gallery - and you’ve probably seen the hot dog guy in the shop. We had to have it (it says coffee on it !). It’s also been a joy to watch Emily’s career flourish all through the city from her large SFO installation to murals scattered all across town all the way to ocean beach. And on top of that she’s a top notch human as is her partner @jimmylrogers who helped transport and hang the show by @thebenchgallery

Then it was the fabulous @joshuacharleshart - moody animals and expressive brush work. He is also responsible for the cool block piece in the front window of @fayesvideo by @thebenchgallery

We had our first small works holiday show ! Gifting art for the holidays is always a win, and this was a way for us to show some more art from artists who had shows and try out work of new artists for future shows. by @thebenchgallery

October 2016- Caution May Be Hot. Seemed fitting to post this epic group show that honored the humble coffee cup on National Coffee Day. The show was split between The Bench Gallery and Long Weekend in Oakland. It was an amazing to see all creative interpretations celebrating coffee. And as always @fayesvideo serves up a fantastic brew. by @thebenchgallery

@samolearypresents who is responsible for all the hand painted signs at @fayesvideo was up next. He made paintings of his shirts each hung up by brightly colored hangers. At his reception the shirts that were muses for the paintings were also sold. by @thebenchgallery
