We toured a massive ~20,000-square-foot Chicago church filled with breathtaking stained glass and endless potential for art and events.

1 Billion.

Our team crossed $1,000,000,000 in lifetime real estate sales - more than 1,800 transactions, not counting rentals. And in some ways, getting here has felt remarkably anti-climactic. And I’m pretty sure we are one of the fastest in IL to ever get here.

I find myself thinking about my mom and dad. They came to this country in 1972 and 1979, escaping the changing tides for Jewish people in Iran. My dad pushed an ice cream cart through Humboldt Park before opening Armitage Hardware at 4135 W. Armitage.

He was an Ace dealer and I’m telling you I can still smell the store. A mix of metal and dust.

I remember cheating on my second-grade “Build an Iconic Building” project - shout out to K.C. and Angel, two of the guys at the store, who literally built the Tribune Tower for me between repairing window screens.

I think about Paramount Partners, Be Realty, and @ncgchicago. About all the people who may not have realized they were mentoring me along a path I didn’t yet know I was on.

In 2017 I was a solo agent and a general contractor. I closed $4 million and I was thrilled. Then I sat in a sales meeting at North Clybourn and heard that someone had closed $20 million that year.

I remember thinking: “THEY ARE DOING WHAT???”

But I could do the math on how much they earned. From then on it was a chase - for better or worse.

Today only a handful of people in the state sell more real estate than our team. I don’t know if we’ll ever catch them. I’m also no longer sure catching them is what matters most.

Do we still want to? Yes.

But more than that: we want to do good, honest, clean work. We want to bring joy to the clients we serve and the agents on our team. We want to love the work, and the people doing it alongside us. Right now, thats true.

I want my boys to walk into the office and be as proud of me, as I am of my dad.

We considered billboards. Bus benches. We even asked The Wiener Circle about their marquee, which costs far more than you’d think.

None of it was right, because the number was never mine alone.

It belongs to the agents and staff who built this with me.
