So in the picture I am riding a Yater Spoon 9-6 shaped by Renny Yater himself. Back in 1967 I had already owned a Henry Fry 10-0 and a Blaker 9-6 as my first two surfboards. I was living in Houston, Texas, and wanted a Yater really bad from the local surf shop, but at $310 there was no way I could afford it. Then the shortboard era started. I never quit thinking of that beautiful Yater though. Fast forward 53 years, and I found a Yater Spoon at Whalebone surf shop in Nags Head, NC. I thought real hard and broke down and bought it. So the story goes Joey Cabell gave it to April at Whalebone where I found my long lost love. I had a true wall hanger since 2020, but I broke down and waxed it up for a perfect longboard wave this morning.
