The Gulf is about to tell a bigger story.

This May through September, Project Gulf launches as one of The Billfish Foundation’s largest coordinated satellite tagging efforts ever focused on blue marlin and white marlin in the Gulf of America.

Powered by captains, crews, scientists, tournament partners, and the Gulf sportfishing community, this initiative will help uncover critical migration patterns, habitat use, and billfish behavior.

Every tag deployed helps drive stronger science, smarter fisheries management, and a healthier future for our oceans.

Summer is in full swing, and so is TBF.

Over the next two months, our team will be on the road supporting billfish conservation at some of the East Coast's premier tournaments, including the Pirate's Cove Billfish Tournament, the Beach Haven White Marlin Invitational, and the MidAtlantic Tournament.

We'll also be advancing several of our Groundswell Projects, from deploying satellite tags on blue marlin through Project Gulf to returning to Nantucket for the third season of the Skillie Project and testing exciting new tagging technology. by @thebillfishfoundation

ICAST 2026 may be over, but the momentum is just beginning.

This year, one of our biggest priorities was sharing TBF's Groundswell Projects, a series of collaborative satellite tagging initiatives bringing together anglers, scientists, tournament partners, and local communities to answer some of the biggest questions in billfish conservation. From Project Gulf and the Skillie Project to the Caribbean Project, Marlin Fly Project, and the SoFL Sailfish Initiative, each deployment helps uncover critical information about migration, habitat use, and billfish behavior that drives better science and conservation.

As part of our 40 for 40 campaign, our goal is to deploy 40 satellite tags in celebration of TBF's 40th Anniversary, creating one of the most ambitious billfish research efforts in our history. Every tag brings us one step closer to protecting these incredible species for generations to come.

The Billfish Foundation proudly celebrates the remarkable career of President Ellen Peel, as she announces her retirement, for over 30 years of extraordinary leadership, dedication, and service.

Peel has driven billfish conservation nationally and internationally through critical research and advocacy, while building lasting partnerships. Her goal, to ensure billfishing opportunities remain available for future generations, is tied to the economic prosperity of fisheries, the marine industry, coastal communities, and individuals. She says, “good conservation pays.”

From boardrooms to tournament docks, from national and international conservation meetings to grassroots gatherings, Ellen has dedicated her career to billfish conservation. Her legacy can be seen in countless conservation victories, scientific advancements, meaningful partnerships, and the iconic yellow jacket that is synonymous with The Billfish Foundation. She is leaving an indelible mark on TBF and the sportfishing community.

Back in Cape Verde for our fourth visit, and this place continues to amaze us.

The people, culture, music, food, mountains, and ocean make it one of the most special places we've ever been. Being here during Cape Verde's World Cup celebration and watching the country come alive after the draw with Spain was something we'll never forget.

This trip has been about more than fishing. It's been about reconnecting with a place that has given Dreamin' On so many unforgettable memories, friendships, and experiences over the years.

A special thank you to Sevenstar Yacht Transport, who has been with us since the beginning of our world tour and helped make this return possible.
