Her playing is fluid, emotional, and masterful, featuring compositions and improvisations that re-imagine the landscape of American music. The New Yorker calls Anderson ‘one of the most distinctive guitar players of her generation’, and NPR refers to her as among ‘this era’s most powerful players’. Her music has been featured in Rolling Stone, NPR, The New York Times, Pitchfork, the BBC and The Wire. In addition to multiple solo releases, past projects include 2021’s Lost Futures with guitarist William Tyler, and contributions to recordings by Matmos, Tara Jane O’Neil, Beth Ditto, Sharon Van Etten and Circuit Des Yeux, among others.
Classically trained, Anderson honed her skills playing in country, jazz and circus bands. Her current work is focused on a mid-20th century archive of recorded music from the Islamic world, Southeast Asia and the Soviet Union.

‘One of the best emotional mediums in the field of solo guitar, Anderson is a master of lovely melancholy.’ - Pitchfork

Out today! Rachel Shearer’s “Te Oro o te Ao” LP
✨Sound & Purchase links in our bio✨

The first album Shearer has released under her name; A bold sonic dreaming from a singular sound artist who over three decades has released works with Xpressway (NZ), Flying Nun (NZ), Ecstatic Peace (US), Corpus Hermeticum (NZ), Family Vineyard (US) among others. Each of her works is a portal into a vast aural realm.

“𝘚𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥 𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘨𝘦𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘢𝘯 𝘶𝘯𝘧𝘰𝘭𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘢𝘭
𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘤𝘪𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴, 𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘩 𝘨𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘦, 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮, 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘱𝘢𝘤𝘦. 𝘚𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘦𝘹𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘮𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵, 𝘸𝘦𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘱𝘪𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘭, 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘰𝘱𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘵𝘰𝘨𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳.”

The album includes an extended essay by the artist discussing the intersection of the Māori concept of whakapapa, field recording, ecology, Pauline Oliveros’s Deep Listening, Pierre Schaeffer’s acousmatic approach, and an understanding of sound as well as the word itself that diverges profoundly from canonical western thought.

Te Oro o Te Ao was first realized as an immersive eight-channel sound installation made in response to a close listening to the earth. It was also released as a limited artist’s acetate edition of 10. Thin Wrist is pleased to present Te Oro o Te Ao in a vinyl and digital edition mastered by Rashad Becker, Clunk Berlin. Housed in a tip-on gatefold jacket with embossed black paper stock, ink pigment foil stamping, with a mounted booklet in the inner gatefold and printed inner sleeves. Pressed at Optimal, Germany.

Wed. Sept 30th @2220arts - A night of deep listening and sound art excursions with New Zealand /  Aotearoa sound artist and composer Rachel Shearer and Abby Dahlquist’s Ecco the Dolphin! The concert will celebrate the release of Shearer’s new LP “Te Oro o te Ao” on Thin Wrist Recordings.
✨Concert Ticket & Album Pre-Order links are in our bio✨

For over three decades, Aotearoa / New Zealand based sound artist and composer Rachel Shearer has researched and engaged with a wide range of Māori and Western practices in listening to the Earth. On the first full length album released under her name, Te Oro o te Ao (the resounding of the world) Shearer has created a bold work of sonic dreaming and remembrance. A personal realization channeled through the Māori concept of whakapapa; embracing the belief that the whole of creation, past/present/future is a dynamic interconnected movement. With field recordings, electronics, and voice, Shearer creates immersive analogs of earthly processes that move like tumbling avalanches and crashing waves. Subterranean volcanic activity transmutes into super-heated air rising into frequencies beyond human hearing. Shearer posits that consciousness, like the environment, is not a closed system; that the mind is an ecosystem where our thoughts are the ‘flora’ and ‘fauna’ and the perception of sound vibrations in the material world is a gateway to metaphysical realms.

Ecco the Dolphin is a project by musician, Deep Listener, and artist Abby Dahlquist. Dahlquist began working under the name Ecco the Dolphin to express resistance and earth consciousness through peaceful listening. Ecco explores the human-nature relationship through multimedia presentations that evoke the memory of home recorded new age ambient cassettes found in thrift stores on long drives up and down the pacific coast highway and Audrey Horne’s foray into environmental activism. Holding a certificate from Pauline Oliveros’ Deep Listening Institute, Dahlquist regularly facilitates workshops and has lectured at Philosophical Research Society and Shelterfest in Olympia, Wa. taken in 2220 Arts + Archives by @theblackeditions

For long summer days and the dusk hours slowly fading into night, Go Hirano’s “The Habit” LP is available on deluxe vinyl, download and streaming. ✨Visit the album link in our bio✨

On The Habit, Go Hirano assembles recordings that span decades of his playing the piano and other instruments on a daily basis. The core of the album was recorded in 2020 at Pianola Records in Tokyo, while other pieces draw from recordings dating as far back as the late 1980s. Through this span of years, a coherent vision emerges, marked by patient, subtle engagement with repetition, space, and resonance. Hirano works with a restrained palette—piano, pianica, wind chime, percussion, and synthesizer—to develop simple melodic figures that gradually shift in harmony and texture. Spacious piano chords expand through soft synthesizer tones. Near-imperceptible rhythmic frameworks intertwine with tranquil phrases that drift and merge with the sounds of the world around them.

This synthesis of music and the environment in which it is created is critical to Hirano’s approach. Rather than isolating the music from its surroundings, he embraces the atmosphere of the moment, the room in which each piece is played, capturing the subtle sounds and artifacts of the artist’s daily experience and the surrounding natural world. For Hirano, these “imperfections” are pathways to vibrant, living expression.

While he may share affinities with Ryuichi Sakamoto, Hiroshi Yoshimura, and even Brian Eno, Hirano’s dedication to “initial, unadorned expression” and processing the environment through his own particular filter sets him apart. The Habit reveals a meditative, melodic language unfolding over the decades and within the many spaces of a life in music marked by a unique warmth and beauty by @theblackeditions

We’re extraordinarily thrilled about the upcoming release of Ute Wasserman’s “chimeric” album on July 31st! Available Digitally and on Deluxe LP housed in a double die-cut, neon spot-color jacket with spot UV gloss, two full color inserts and printed inner sleeve. ✨Artwork and design by Liz Kosack and liner poetry by Andrew Choate. ✨Pre-Order link in our bio✨

Few artists have expanded the possibilities of the voice as radically and masterfully as Berlin based voice artist, composer and improvisor Ute Wassermann. For her, the voice is an ecosystem: a living field of relationships between body, object, space, and the listener’s ear. Her music moves between the transcendental and the quotidian at once – breath as ritual, sound as touch, acoustic experience as something simultaneously otherworldly and utterly present. Dissolving the perceived boundaries between mind and body, she offers instead a full-bodied immersion in ever-changing stillness, an idiosyncratic engagement with sound that is all-at-once fierce, tender, and free.

On her new album “chimeric”, Wassermann extends her voice with a wide array of implements; breath-driven drums, hydrophones used as throat microphones, bird whistles, jaw harps, brass megaphones. These objects don’t just function as embellishments or demonstrations, but rather, as companions – materials with which she communicates and is herself transformed. The result is a music in which the lines between self, object, and environment are constantly blurred, erased and redrawn.

chimeric is an album teeming with vivid colors and transcendental beauty that reveals the voice as a truly limitless instrument.

Shane Parish, guitarist, composer, improviser, and interpreter, performs his acclaimed work Autechre Guitar live at 2220 Arts + Archives, Sunday June 14 !
✨Ticket Links in Our Bio✨
Parish focuses on the translation of music across traditions, canons, and technologies. Known for his precise and expressive fingerstyle technique and his nuanced approach to transcription, Parish treats interpretation as a compositional practice, using existing works as material for structural and sonic transformation.

On February 27, 2026, Shane Parish released the album Autechre Guitar on Bill Orcutt’s Palilalia Records. A seemingly impossible task, Parish arranged ten songs by the electronic UK duo Autechre for solo acoustic guitar, and performed them with warmth, feeling, and precision. A beautifully recorded collection of songs, the album was met with universal acclaim, going into multiple pressings, and leading to a slew of international festival invitations to perform the music live.

“In the midst of an ever-expanding discography that swerves from jazz and avant-garde to folk and blues, free improv and studious composition and attention-grabbing covers, Shane Parish is the perfect artist to take [Autechre’s Music] on: a master’s thesis after years of intense field work.” —Sam Sodomsky, Pitchfork

“Autechre Guitar is elegant and crystalline, a set of fascinating miniatures composed of unexpected links and gaps. It’s as confounding and crafted as an Escher staircase.” — Derek Walmsley, The Wire

“Ultimately, Autechre Guitar works on multiple levels… an invitation to listen deep inside the music… and to simply get lost in Shane’s astonishingly fleet playing.” — Philip Sherburne, taken in 2220 Arts + Archives by @theblackeditions
