We have made the decision to start our downsizing process. But don’t forget that The Block Gives Back operated for many years without a formal storefront location. This does not change our mission. This just changes our location.With the use of The Block Shop being less and less over time we have made the decision to save more funding to put directly towards our community efforts and less to keep a vacant office. The original goal with this space was literally to just store our items. But then the community developed a relationship with us that we did not expect. Throughout six years, we have done amazing things in this location. But all good things tend to come to an end. We are still going to be involved in Tacony through our various partnerships. This post should not make anyone feel sad. This post is to inform everyone that the work does not stop. We need support now just like we always have. Our partner groups as well. This city deserves community support. No one person or one organization can solve it all. But we look forward to trying with each and everyone one of our followers. PS…this is not goodbye yet. The shop is still open and may be hosting events soon. But the move has started and the mission will continue to evolve in the most impactful ways. Please join us tomorrow as we will be in Frankford for the annual @fkd.daynightmarket presented by @power_circle_mentors We are seeking volunteers to help us organize the kickball game starting at 12 PM and the watermelon eating contest starting at 3:30 PM.If you have been a part of our peace and play day before, it will be that same vibe that we are now bringing to the night market. Beyond our activities, it will be a great day in the community, supporting small businesses and promoting our favorite youth mentorship group around. Stop by and enjoy some of the fun. by @theblockgivesback

It was a joy to support our partners @safehub_philly by bringing the grill by to serve up burgers and hot dogs for Family day. As the families enjoyed a day of organized activities including relay races and a parents soccer match ⚽️ We made sure the food kept on coming for all those in attendance. Our volunteers also got to do some face painting and tattoo for the kids. Such a beautiful day to be in the community. by @theblockgivesback

🎣☀️ What a day at the RNP Fish Fest!Families from across the community came together at the Frankford Boat Launch for an afternoon filled with fishing, biking, games, music, art activities, and plenty of smiles. Events like this create opportunities for neighbors to connect, kids to try something new, and families to enjoy the outdoors together.A huge thank you to @riverfrontnorth and all of the partners, volunteers, and community organizations that helped make this free event possible.The Block Gives Back was honored to be one of the event partners, helping keep everyone fed by grilling hot dogs throughout the day. 🌭💙Community isn’t built in a day—it’s built through days like these. by @theblockgivesback

This weekend we are taking the grill to @safehub_philly ⚽️ 🥅 Volunteer with us as we support their family fun day. We will be grilling up the food for the families that come out and getting involved with some of the field day games. 🌭 See you Saturday 10-1pm by @theblockgivesback

Have you noticed something different? Yeah, us too. Things have changed. We have been strategically working in communities for over ten years now so we had to finally take a pause. The action may not be as often. The team members may not be the same. Some of the events may no longer be annual. But it is still the same commitment and intention to improve our city of Philadelphia.So please allow us some time as we work on a few things. Big thank you to @riverfrontnorth for breaking us out of our long hibernation.First event of the year and it was a great one. Our team was back like we never left grilling up for four hours so every team member, volunteer, and event attendee was fed well.Aside from our station, there was free, kayaking, free fishing, and free bike rides among all the other fun that was available.The Block Gives Back is still here and you will see us a little less than usual but we love to show up and make an impact for the community.
