Sammy’s Children’s Day (Chinese title: 初三的六一儿童节 / Chusan's Liuyi Children's Day) is a gritty, 1980s-set "noir" BL drama that has recently gained significant traction for its dark tone and high production value.
Quick Profile
Country: China (Hong Kong set, Sino-Thai collaboration)
Actors (Main Cast): * He Changxi (何昶希) as He Chusan
He Yanchao (何衍朝) as Xia Liuyi
Status: Currently Airing (Premiered March 13, 2026)
Platform: GagaOOLala, Viki, and YouTube
Plot Summary
Set in the lawless Kowloon Walled City during the 1980s, the story follows He Chusan, a brilliant university student from an innocent background who dreams of an honest future. His life is upended when he is kidnapped by Xia Liuyi, a high-ranking triad enforcer and "golden hatchet man" for a powerful gang.
Liuyi's boss wants to launder money through a film project, but they lack a script. Liuyi "recruits" (forcibly) Chusan to be their screenwriter because he's the only educated person in the area. What starts as a terrifying hostage situation evolves into a complex bond as the two navigate corruption, gang wars, and an undeniable attraction. Chusan eventually becomes the "brains" to Liuyi's "brawn," and their parallel worlds collide in a dangerous, messy fate.
The Main Pair
The primary couple is Chusan & Liuyi.
Dynamic: They are classic opposites. Chusan is the "nerdy," refined student with a sharp mind, while Liuyi is the rugged, tattooed, and violent triad boss. Fans often highlight the intense chemistry, particularly the way Chusan begins to see the vulnerability behind Liuyi’s "mad dog" exterior.
Production Context
Though it is a Chinese story based on the popular danmei novel by She Xie Dian Dian, the live-action adaptation is a collaboration between Chinese and Thai teams. Because of its "uncensored" nature (featuring mature themes and NC-17 elements not allowed in domestic Chinese broadcasts), it is being released 🇨🇳
