October stack 📚

Not entirely sure how we got to Friday again but here we are!
We bought my son a Lego set off of Vinted and now we have the mammoth task of making sure all 1771 pieces of Yoda are all present and correct before 6.02pm tomorrow 🫠
I did manage to create a few posts this week on my day off and one of them was my October book stack. A mixture of read and TBR and I'd definitely recommend One Moment, Bride and Rock Paper Scissors!

Have you read any of these, or do you have anything planned this weekend?

Currently Reading 💜

Good morning Booksta. Posting from bed today as I've got a cold 🤧 on the plus side I'll be spending most of the day reading, but still having that internal battle and feeling guilty because I'm resting and not tidying etc 🫠
Anyway, I started Releasing 10 on Sunday, I'm not even 50 pages in but WHAT!!!
I feel like I'm going to need the tissues for this one.

What book broke your heart the most?

Taming 7 book review 📖

Apart from the prologue, this one started where Keeping 13 ended which I wasn't expecting. I imagined it to go back in time like Saving 6.
It took me a little while to get into it and there were a few times especially at the beginning when I didn't really feel that urge to pick it up and it took about 120 pages to fully get into, but once I did it was like being back in your cosiest pjs.
In Taming 7 we meet Gerard, the real Gerard, not just Gibsie and I really wanted to know more about him and what made him the way he is. Despite being such a big book the pages really do fly by and you've read a good chunk without realising and by the time I was just over half way I couldn't put it down, especially during those final 200 pages.
All of these books are a slow build and I felt this one was more so than the others, but I could have easily read another 500 pages, I needed more from the aftermath. Maybe we'll get that in the final book.
As much as I love Gibsie I didn't get the feels from this one as much as I have with the 13's but especially the 6's.
I love the friendship group in this series as much as the romances and for me Lizzie redeemed herself in the last book but I disliked her immensely in this one, however I'm really looking forward to seeing what happens next for her and hearing more from her.
I didn't give this book my full attention during some of it and maybe that affected how much I enjoyed it, but it was still a solid 4⭐️
I think I'm going to dive straight into the next one because I can't get enough of these characters.

It's not what you think book review 📖

Well this book certainly does what it says on the tin. It's safe to say it definitely wasn't what I thought.
Let's start with the positives, it was very easy to get into and I had a WTF moment but apart from that, unfortunately this one wasn't for me.
I ended up skimming parts from about chapter 31 the whole middle section of this just wasn't for me and it was a very slow burn, but one that I wasn't particularly excited to unravel.
Finally around 70% it started to pick up again as the story reached its climax but by then I wanted to get to the end so it was over more than actually being excited to find out, and when I did it was something I'd already guessed.
This was more police procedural than I was expecting, which isn't a bad thing, there are plenty of police/crime thrillers that I love but this was very heavy on political themes, yes it was very current but it just wasn't for me.
It took me eight days to read, Susan finished in less than 24hours and we definitely had things to say once I'd finished too.
If you have this TBR don't let me put you off, looking through Goodreads I'm in the minority.

Three Perfect Liars audiobook review 🎧

This week I've been listening to Three Perfect Liars by Heidi Perks and while its kept me in the zone during a couple of cleaning days, it's not really one that I'll remember. Told from the POV of the three main women, Laura, Mia and Janie, alongside police interviews with some other staff members, we slowly find out who set fire to the offices of an advertising agency, who's body was pulled out of the wreckage and why.
To be honest the blurb didn't really pull me in but I wanted something on audio and this was available. It was a very easy listen and I binged it over two sittings but unfortunately it just wasn't that exciting and I didn't really care for any of the characters.
It's probably something I would have enjoyed 10 years ago, but I like my thrillers more thrilling now.
Not bad by any means, but like I said before not particularly memorable.

Hope you all have a good week, do you have any plans?

More books Monday 📚

Good evening Booksta! It's been a lovely day here down south. I bought some chocolate this morning and left it in my car thinking it'd be ok, so anyway who likes chocolate soup 😅
I thought I'd share with you the books I bought in the Kindle deals this month, one of which I've already read - review is on the grid for Warm Bodies.
I'm very much looking forward to Hide and Seek and Big Bad Wolf so naturally they'll probably sit TBR for the next two years 😬

What did you buy in the kindle deals this month, or what are you looking forward to picking up soon?

Warm Bodies book review 📖

When my alarm goes off on the first of the month, the first thing I do is check the monthly Kindle deals, and I was very excited to see this on first reads. Of course I downloaded it and started straight away.
I'd not read the blurb as John Marrs is an autobuy author so I went in completely blind and I think that is the best way.
I definitely would have read this in one sitting if I didn't have work, but I did pick it up every time I had a secret minute and while on my lunch (perhaps not my best idea 😬) it's such a gripping little read and I was constantly thinking about when I could next sneak a few pages and it made me chuckle to myself thinking of Marrs' Google history while writing this.
I loved the mixed media with the addition of the neighbourhood Whatsapp group, and the fact that I have a Linda in my family group that always pipes up with something IN SHOUTY CAPITALS or completely inappropriate made it even better!
In just over 100 pages, I gasped, laughed, felt completely grossed out and gasped again.
This was everything you could ask for from a short story and I loved it. Absolutely recommend

Favourite book was definitely My Husbands Wife, what a ride that took me on.

First of the month buddy read ✨️

The first of October, what!?
Not only is it Kindle deals day (yes I've bought a few) but its first of the month buddy read day with Susan @mynextreads and for the first time in about five years we're breaking tradition and reading Clare Mackintosh in October 🙂‍↕️
We're both VERY excited for this one so lets hope it lives up to expectations 🤞🏻

What are you looking forward to reading in October?

Chasing The Dead book review 📖

This was my final full read of September, there's no way I'll be finishing Taming 7 any time soon. It was my second Tim Weaver after my other half bought me book 9 of the series a good 6 years ago, but I loved it, so when Susan said she was reading this with Ben I decided to join them and start from the beginning.
Chapters seemed a good length and it was a very easy read, especially during the first two days, however after that it started to lose me a bit. I had no idea what was going on, but not necessarily in a good way and the more we went on the more I felt my interest waning.
That's not to say I didn't enjoy the story line it just could have been shorter with the MC David chasing his tail a lot less.
My favourite part of the buddy read was when we discovered Susans copy was 10 chapters shorter than mine and Ben's, especially as her book fell apart mid read and we were trying to work out if she'd lost any pages without spoilers.
No, jokes aside I did enjoy it and I like David as a character so I'm looking forward to seeing how it all progresses.
I didnt love book one in the Eddie Flynn series and now its one of my faves so I have to at least give this another go.
Overall I'd give this 3⭐️

Hope you all have a great Wednesday 💚

Happy Threshing Day 🐲

She's here!
I've been so excited for this, it's definitely (maybe) on my October reading list.
She's so pretty, but why is she taller 😐

Who else has been sat with their nose pressed against the window waiting for the postman today?
