Do you have an author who just does it for you every time? These are some of mine!

I was 14 when I first read Purple Hibiscus and it wrecked me so good I read it two more times after that, until I could really see Kambili and the bougainvillea flowers like they were my own story.

Years later, I would write my bachelor’s capstone project on Americanah because of how much I loved Adichie’s writing.

I’m yet to read Dream Count, but I have high hopes!

Fiction? Nonfiction? Children’s books? My favorite thing about Morrison is how her work makes you see people - people you’ve met and haven’t met and people whose experiences mirror or differ from yours - but you cannot deny seeing them.

I admire Atwood’s unique writing style and narrative depth. My favorite stories take me on a journey, and Atwood does that with ease!

I first read Two Women In One as a teenager, and I think it kicked off my interest in reading books around the world and about histories I wasn’t familiar with. El Saadawi’s personal history is one for the books, and her works show us that too.

Danticat never disappoints! I’m talking depth, descriptive language, character development, historical context…everything a story needs to be a story!

Picking a few authors to share was a hard task.

As someone constantly balancing big ideas with real execution, these are some of the books and stories I turn to again when I need clarity.

Paulo Coelho hit the nail on the head with this one

Thoughts, come ye in alignment? ✅

In short, pray!

That foggy feeling is still important for clarity. A flower is still blooming even when the leaves aren’t fully grown. 🌸

Book of Nehemiah? Chef’s Kiss 💋

Sing, sing, and sing again 🎶

Which book or story would you add to the list?

Not every memorable book on my shelf is a novel.

After putting this one off for far too long, I finally picked it back up last month, and I’m glad I did.

While there were a few descriptions and word choices that didn’t quite resonate with me, the heart of the book is clear: it’s a practical, biblically grounded guide to understanding Scripture and equipping others to do the same.

Each chapter is so detailed; you can tell that Francis Chan and Mark Beuving did their research. So, if you’re drawn to discipleship or helping others grow their faith, this is a must-read ⭐️

I’d love to know: what genres do you read? Do you mix theology or Christian living books into your reading, or do you mostly stick to fiction?

JULY BOOK PICKS 📚 Goal: Depopulate the TBR

After an eventful 4th of July weekend, my reading pace is already off to a slow start, but I’m EXCITED to see how far I’ll go with reading these picks for the month:

• The Weight of Glory
• The Correspondent
• The Psychology of Money
• Yesteryear

I may be starting with C.S. Lewis’ The Weight of Glory. What’s one book on your list this month? Have you read any of these? by @thebookarazzi

BOOK REVIEW

A Canadian and Caribbean classic, Ladoo does an important job of shedding light on Indian heritage in the Caribbean. He tells the story of a poor rice-growing family at the turn of the 19th century in Tola Trace, a fictional village in East Caribbean, specifically Trinidad.

Told through the collective consciousness of the family’s children aged 12, 10, and twin 8-year olds, we wrestle with the family’s experiences with poverty, their father’s drunkenness, and their mother’s inability to rescue herself from domestic violence. The hope falls back on the children, as mother repeatedly says, “But by de help of God, me chirens goin to come man and woman in Tola”.

When I read books like this, they make me think of untold stories, of children’s experiences in violent situations, and what all of this means for the future.

Even though this book followed a sparse prose style, thanks to the childrens’ voices, I’d rate it 4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The rest of this week, I’ll be wrapping up my other June reads and watching for any other surprises that might come out of the World Cup Knockout Stage…Nothing could have been prepared me for Germany’s exit! 😬

Facebook Marketplace understood the assignment 😍

1000 pieces. 9/10 difficulty. Endless shades of color that nearly took me out 😂 But I loved every minute of it ✨

There’s something special about a puzzle featuring women and girls of all ages simply enjoying a good book.

Puzzling always reminds me that progress happens one piece at a time.

What activity helps you practice patience? 🤍

Studying my Bible, reading my books, doing my research, and minding my business. Sounds like a good week to me! ✨

If this lands on your TL, I hope you have a wonderful week! 🤍

For #Juneteenth and in the spirit of #WorldCup2026 which I have surprisingly enjoyed so far, these are some of the books and authors who fill every position on my pitch.

You may already know picking only 11 books was a hard decision! My favorite? Kindred…because it always leaves me with more questions than answers.

If you’re setting intentions for the week like I am, here’s always a good one: grow closer to God.

These are some books that have deepened my journey of faith along the way. Have you read any of these, and should I make this a series? What Christian book topics would you like recommendations for next?
