It explores difficult themes, including violence and gore, antisemitism and religious persecution, grief and death, torture and cruelty, self-harm through cutting, alcoholism, as well as physical and domestic abuse. It also contains body horror and scenes of sexual harassment. 𝑺𝒖𝒎𝒎𝒂𝒓𝒚 As the healer’s daughter, Malka has seen how the wood’s curse has plagued her village, but the Ozmini Church only comes to collect its tithe, not to protect heretics with false stories of monsters in the trees. So when a clergy girl wanders too close to the forest and Malka’s mother is accused of her murder, Malka strikes an impossible bargain with a zealot Ozmini priest. If she brings the monster out, he will spare her mother from execution. When she ventures into the shadowed woods, Malka finds a monster, though not the one she expects: an inscrutable, disgraced golem who agrees to implicate herself, but only if Malka helps her fulfill a promise first and free the imprisoned rabbi who created her. But a deal easily made is not easily kept. And as their bargain begins to unravel a much more sinister threat, protecting her people may force Malka to endanger the one person she left home to save—and face her growing feelings for the very creature she was taught to fear. 𝑹𝒆𝒗𝒊𝒆𝒘 (𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒕 𝟏) With The Maiden and Her Monster, Maddie Martinez invites us into a world that is as fascinating as it is terrifying, where legends come to life, faith becomes magic, and appearances can be deceiving. Between mysterious murders, a cursed forest, and political and religious tensions, the novel draws us into a dark, chilling atmosphere that captivated me from the very first pages. Needless to say, I was eager to find out where this story would ta by @thebookisheaven

Lucy’s twin sister Sarah is unwell. She refuses to eat, mumbles nonsensically, and is increasingly obsessed with a centuries-old corpse recently discovered on her husband’s grand estate. The doctor has diagnosed her with temporary insanity caused by a fever of the brain. To protect her twin from a terrible fate in a lunatic asylum, Lucy must unravel the mystery surrounding her sister’s condition, but it’s clear her twin is hiding something. Then again, Lucy is harboring secrets of her own, too. Then, the worst happens. Sarah’s behavior takes a turn for the strange. She becomes angry… and hungry. Lucy soon comes to suspect that something is trying to possess her beloved sister. Or is it madness? As Sarah changes before her very eyes, Lucy must reckon with the dark, monstrous truth, or risk losing her forever. { 𝑹𝒆𝒗𝒊𝒆𝒘 𝟏 | Blood on her tongue} I honestly don’t know where to start with « Blood on Her Tongue », because this book was such a unique reading experience. {𝓻𝓮𝓿𝓲𝓮𝔀 | The Second Death of Locke} ⚠️ No AI - the label is bullshit ! Nowadays, it’s almost impossible to walk into a bookstore without seeing a section dedicated to romantasy. As someone who isn’t a huge romance reader, I often find myself frustrated when promising fantasy worlds get pushed aside for yet another enemies-to-lovers storyline. So naturally, I was skeptical when « The Second Death of Locke » caught my eye, with that badass woman in knight’s armor, how could I resist? And, for once, I’m very glad I fell for the marketing! The first book in a shared-universe series, « The Second Death of Locke » can be read as a standalone, and its biggest strengths are definitely its characters and world-building. Yes, romance is central to the story, but thankfully, the fantasy isn’t sacrificed for it. The magic system, based on a codependent bond between mages and their “hands,” is genuinely fascinating and deeply connected to the social hierarchy of this dark, war-torn medieval world. At the heart of it all are Grey, a young knight, and Kier, her mage. Their relationship is built on tenderness, loyalty, and unwavering trust. Grey’s troubled past makes her strong yet vulnerable, while Kier is her absolute rock, and his openness about his feelings was honestly refreshing. The yearning? Let’s just say it got to me, which is quite an achievement. I also loved the LGBTQIA+ representation and the secondary characters, each with their own personalities, gradually forming a lovely found family. And we all know I’m a sucker for that. My main issue was the plot: while enjoyable and consistent, the mystery surrounding Locke’s heir is fairly obvious from the start, and the resolution felt a little too easy and rushed. I was missing that final WOW moment that could have made this an absolute favorite. Still, I really enjoyed this book and would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking for medieval quests, strong women, original fantasy, lovable characters, and just the right amount of yearning. • 🔑 Romantasy - Lady Knight - La seconde mort de Locke 🏷️ #lasecondemortdelocke #theseconddeathoflocke #desaxus #bookreview @desaxus #bookrecommendations by @thebookisheaven
{𝑻𝒓𝒆𝒏𝒅 | First, last, next & Favorite} So many female authors in this post, and I love to see it! Of course, I had to mention some of my favorites, whose upcoming books I’m eagerly waiting for. This trend also made me realize that I still have way too many unfinished series waiting for me… This year, I’ve started a lot of them, but I’ve finished very few! 💬 Do we have any upcoming reads in common? ⚠️ No AI - the label is bullshit ! • 🏷️ #firstlastnextreads #booktag #bookworm #bookreview #bookrecommendations by @thebookisheaven
{𝑸𝒖𝒊𝒄𝒌 𝓻𝓮𝓿𝓲𝓮𝔀 | WTF did I just read !?} Over the past few months, I’ve read quite a few books that I never got around to reviewing. So here’s a quick roundup of five books that all left me thinking: “What the f*ck did I just read?”. For better or for worse… ⚠️ No AI - the label is bullshit ! . What the f*ck did I just read? ». Pour le meilleur… comme pour le pire. Écho & Narcisse by @auteurc.marais : Still just as obsessed with Clémence’s writing and her mythological retellings that finally give a voice to women who have been overlooked for far too long. I got to rediscover Echo, a deeply moving character because of the injustice she endures, and I absolutely loved hating Narcissus for everything he represents. . Victorian Psycho by Virginia Feito: A chilling, deeply unsettling read that I absolutely devoured, despite (or perhaps because of) the horrors it depicts. My only real criticism is the narrative itself: there isn’t much suspense since you already know how the story ends. Still, it’s a great read, especially if you have a taste for the macabre and an irresistible morbid curiosity. . I Who Have Never Known Men by Jacqueline Harpman: After seeing it everywhere in bookstores and all over Bookstagram, I kn by @thebookisheaven
{𝓻𝓮𝓿𝓲𝓮𝔀 | Carmilla} ⚠️ No AI - the label is bullshit ! Summer usually calls for light reading: a romance that smells like vacation, a group of friends gathered around a pool, sunshine, a refreshing drink… But this year, by pure chance, I found myself diving straight into the dark side. Welcome to my Summerween era, and honestly, I’m not complaining! When it comes to horror and the supernatural, vampires are often unavoidable.Yet I’ve never been a huge fan of these famous bloodsuckers. But last year, I finally discovered Dracula, one of the greatest classics of the genre. I then learned that Bram Stoker’s famous count was inspired by an even older work: Carmilla. A discovery I couldn’t miss. What captivated me most was, without a doubt, the gothic atmosphere. Between Laura’s nightmares, the ghostly presence haunting the castle, and Carmilla herself, both mesmerizing and unsettling, the novel creates a dark, oppressive mood that gave me some delightful chills. As one of the foundations of vampire mythology, Carmilla offers an interesting portrayal of the vampire figure, but what fascinated me most was the relationship between Carmilla and Laura. Although this novel lends itself to many different interpretations, I mainly saw it as a strong opposition between good and evil. Carmilla embodies the figure of evil, of the forbidden, of temptation, and of sin. In contrast, Laura appears as an innocent, lonely young woman searching for affection, torn between fascination and repulsion. She becomes the perfect prey for this predator who is as seductive as she is threatening. Beyond a simple romance and vampire story, I saw a tale about temptation, power, desire, and female sexuality, especially striking considering the moral standards of the 19th century. A timeless classic with poetic yet terrifying writing, Carmilla still manages to captivate today. My only regret? Its predictability and uneven pacing. Nevertheless, I’m thrilled to have discovered this gothic gem and I’ll gladly revisit it one day to appreciate all its subtleties again. • 🔑 Vampire - Horror - Romance Saphique - Carmilla 🏷️ #dracula #carmilla #romancesaphique #vampirebooks by @thebookisheaven
❄️ Résumé : Empire de Korr, an 1345. • 🔑 L’impératrice de glace - Clémence Marais - Auto édition - Vengeance - Romance 🏷️ #clémencemarais #limperatricedeglace #bookhaul #autoedition by @thebookisheaven
{𝑩𝒐𝒐𝒌 𝒓𝒆𝒄𝒔 | Lady knight} Ever since I discovered The Knight and the Moth, I’ve had one obsession: reading more books featuring lady knights. So, I jumped at the chance to read The Second Death of Locke, and what a read! I absolutely loved it…and the yearning !!! Omg amazing ! More recently, I read The Starving Saints. While I wasn’t quite as captivated because of some slower moments, I was completely won over by its chilling atmosphere and intriguing characters. With how excited I’ve been about these books, I just had to put together a little wishlist and I thought, why not share it with you? Let me know if you’ve read any of these, or if you have any recommendations for me! Plus récemment, j’ai lu « The Starving Saints ». • 🔑 Medieval core - Lady knight - Fantasy sapphic romance - 🏷️ #ladyknight #medievalcore #thestarvingsaints #theseconddeathoflocke #theknightandthemoth by @thebookisheaven
Just because I was on holiday in Scotland didn’t stop me from reading, quite the opposite! This week : • I finished « Blood on her Tongue » • I bought, started and finished « Meets the Loch Ness Monster », which I had signed by the author. I think it makes a lovely souvenir! • I started « The Starving Saints », which is what I’m currently reading! I’ve been reading a lot of horror stories lately and this trip has given me the chance to get back into reading in English, something I’d neglected over the last few months! {𝓻𝓮𝓿𝓲𝓮𝔀 | 2145 : sous l’œil d’Atek} ⚠️ No AI - the label is bullshit ! If you know me, you probably know I became a reader quite late. Most of the YA dystopias I discovered as a teenager, I experienced through their film adaptations, and at 25, I honestly thought I had outgrown the genre. Then I picked up this novel from Scrineo with no particular expectations and ended up spending a good part of my night reading because I was so drawn into the story. While some revelations are fairly easy to predict, especially at the beginning, I was quickly caught off guard by twists and turns that I never saw coming. For that, congratulations to the author, who brilliantly crafted this tragic and dark world in which our heroine and her friends find themselves. The plot is handled with remarkable skill, and every chapter leaves you eager to dive straight into the next one. As with any great dystopian novel, the story carries powerful messages, and this one is no exception. It shines a spotlight on environmental issues, overconsumption, and social, and even cult-like, extremes. These themes are woven seamlessly into the narrative without ever weighing it down. They are also complemented by the well-placed sarcasm and irony of the characters, which provide moments of levity and perspective, making you smile despite the grim reality of the world they inhabit. Speaking of the characters, the novel delivers a wonderfully diverse cast, both in terms of personality and identity. I was particularly fond of Hope, our protagonist, who is strong, thoughtful, and remarkably mature for her age—understandably so, given her circumstances and the mission she carries. Yet she still retains a certain innocence, and that balance makes her all the more endearing. In the end, this is a Young Adult dystopian novel that doesn’t feel quite so “young” after all. It encourages reflection while never losing the thrilling, adventurous quality that makes the genre so addictive. A genuine favorite of mine that I wholeheartedly recommend—one to read without moderation! • 🔑 Dystopie - Young Adult - Science-fiction 🏷️ #2145sousloeildatek #dystopiabooks @scrineo @sandrine.clement.autrice by @thebookisheaven
