đŸ„Š The Great Rivalry: Evander Holyfield vs. Lennox Lewis!
The year 1999 was forever etched into boxing history thanks to a dilogy that gave the world an undisputed champion and one of the most controversial judging scandals of all time. In March of that year, at Madison Square Garden, Lennox Lewis practically outclassed Holyfield with his signature jab, outboxing his opponent in every department. However, the judges delivered a shocking verdict—a draw, which is still called one of the biggest robberies in sports history. Justice was finally served exactly eight months later in Las Vegas: in November, Holyfield put up a much more aggressive and competitive fight, but this time the judges unanimously awarded the well-deserved victory to Lewis. With that, the Briton permanently cemented his name in the pantheon of legends, capturing all the belts and becoming the undisputed king of the heavyweight division.
Do you think Holyfield deserved the draw in the first fight, or should Lewis have won both times? 👇

đŸ„Š Andy Ruiz vs. Tor Hamer: A 3-Round Destruction

On November 24, 2013, in Macao, Andy Ruiz (21-0) secured a dominant victory over Tor Hamer, defending his WBO Inter-Continental title and capturing the vacant NABF Heavyweight belt. Despite Hamer’s fast start attempting to work from the outside, Ruiz quickly imposed his pace, trapping his opponent and systematically breaking him down with heavy body shots. In the third round, Ruiz unleashed his trademark explosive hand speed, overwhelming Hamer with a barrage of punishing combinations. Unable to withstand the damage, Hamer broke mentally and refused to come out for the fourth round, quitting on his stool in his corner (RTD 3). This fight once again proved that Ruiz’s lightning-fast hands and relentless pressure easily overcome any athletic opposition.

Romero showcased his superior power and ring control against Garcia. From the opening rounds, Romero pressed forward with calculated aggression, landing clean, heavy shots that gradually slowed Garcia’s pace. As the fight progressed, Garcia struggled to mount consistent offense, clearly affected by Romero’s physical strength and relentless pressure.
Romero’s power muted Garcia’s offense, forcing him into a more defensive shell and limiting his output. By the final bell, the difference in control and damage was clear, leading to a dominant unanimous decision victory for Romero.

The bout between Rolando “Rolly” Romero and Jackson Marinez took place on August 15, 2020, at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut, USA, and became one of the most controversial events in the boxing world that year, as the WBA interim lightweight title was on the line, and the fight ended with Romero winning by a unanimous decision with scores of 115-113, 116-112, and 118-110, despite the fact that the previously undefeated Dominican Jackson Marinez outboxed his opponent for the majority of the twelve rounds thanks to precise jabs and timely counterattacks, while Romero acted mostly aggressively but straightforwardly and often missed his targets or hit the guard, which caused a wave of harsh criticism from experts, sports journalists, and fans who unanimously called the verdict a judging error and a robbery, after which Compubox punch statistics only confirmed Marinez’s colossal advantage in landed punches, though in official boxing history the victory still went to Rolando Romero, who kept his undefeated record and continued his career in heavier weight divisions, including championship fights against Gervonta Davis and Isaac Cruz, whereas Jackson Marinez’s career after that controversial night became much less prominent at the highest level.

The return of former four-division world champion Adrien ‘The Problem’ Broner to the ring after a two-year layoff took place on February 20, 2021, in Uncasville, Connecticut, at the Mohegan Sun Arena, where his opponent was undefeated Puerto Rican boxer Jovanie Santiago. The welterweight bout lasted the full 12-round distance and ended with a unanimous decision victory for Broner with scores of 116–111, 115–112, and 117–110, despite the fact that Santiago actively pressured his opponent and out-landed him in the first half of the fight. Broner started the bout extremely passively, dropping the opening rounds due to low activity, but picked up the pace in the second half, began landing clean power shots, and cut Santiago under the left eye in the ninth round. An additional factor in Broner’s favor was the deduction of one point from Santiago in the fourth round for a punch after the bell. The judges’ decision sparked debate among fans and experts, as Santiago threw and landed more overall punches, but the judges favored Broner’s cleaner power punches and ring generalship.

The fight between Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero and Anthony Yigit took place on July 17, 2021, at the AT&T Center in San Antonio as part of the Charlo vs. Castaño boxing card. Romero successfully defended his Interim WBA Lightweight World Title, winning by technical knockout in the 7th round at 1:54. On the eve of the bout, Yigit missed weight significantly, exceeding the lightweight limit by over 5 pounds (2.3 kg), which meant the belt was on the line for the American only. The bout itself was action-packed and physical: Romero dominated using his power and size advantage, sending the Swede to the canvas in the 5th round and twice in the 7th round, even though ‘Rolly’ was docked a point for an illegal blow. After another barrage of heavy punches in the seventh frame, the referee stepped in to stop the fight, allowing Rolando Romero to maintain his undefeated record and secure his 14th professional victory.

The bout between undefeated American prospect Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis and former IBF world champion Sergey Lipinets took place on April 10, 2021, at the Mohegan Sun arena in Uncasville, Connecticut, USA, and served as a crucial test for Ennis, who was facing an opponent of such high caliber for the first time. From the opening seconds of the welterweight matchup, Ennis seized control through his superiority in reach, speed, wingspan, and frequent switching of stances, dropping Lipinets for the first time in the 4th round with a short uppercut, before closing the show in the 6th round with a powerful combination of a left hook and a right uppercut that left Lipinets unconscious and prompted the referee to immediately halt the bout. For Sergey Lipinets, this defeat marked the first stoppage loss of his professional career, while for Jaron Ennis, this resounding victory over a former world champion served as a loud statement in the division, cementing his status as an elite contender and clearing a direct path to championship titles.

Andy Ruiz Jr. may look like an average, out-of-shape kid who wouldn’t seem destined for success in the pro boxing world, but he can truly fight. In Macao, he showcased his skill, hand speed, and power, stopping Joe Hanks in the fourth round of a heavyweight showdown between two rising prospects. Ruiz (20–0, 14 KOs) had Hanks looking outclassed through the first two rounds, his rapid hands proving far too sharp for the slower Hanks (21–1, 14 KOs). Hanks did rally with a solid third round, landing a couple of heavy shots, but Ruiz shrugged them off without trouble.

In the fourth, Ruiz struck suddenly with a right hand that caught Hanks completely off guard, then followed with a left that sent the big man crashing to the canvas like a falling tree. The referee’s count stretched to what felt like “nine and three-quarters,” but it wasn’t ten, so Hanks was allowed to continue. Moments later, though, Ruiz pounced again, dropped him a second time, and sealed the finish at 1:41 of the round.

The fourth fight between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Márquez, which took place on December 8, 2012, in Las Vegas, served as the dramatic climax to one of the greatest rivalries in boxing history. Following three highly controversial bouts that ended in a draw and two close decision victories for Pacquiao, both fighters entered the ring determined to secure an undisputed stoppage. The action was fast-paced from the opening bell: in the third round, Márquez scored his first-ever knockdown against Pacquiao with a powerful right hook, but Pacquiao answered back in the fifth by dropping Márquez and breaking his nose. By the sixth round, Pacquiao was leading on all three judges’ scorecards and pressing aggressively; however, with just one second remaining in the round, he lunged forward into a attack and walked directly into a flawless counter right straight from Márquez. Pacquiao fell face-first onto the canvas unconscious, and the brutal finish went down in history as a devastating knockout, earning ‘Knockout of the Year’ honors from The Ring magazine.

Jermall Charlo defeated Matt Korobov via unanimous decision (119–108, 116–112, 116–112) on December 22, 2018, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn to retain his interim WBC middleweight title. The fight was intriguing from the start, as Korobov stepped in on just one week’s notice to replace Willie Monroe Jr., who had tested positive for a banned substance. Despite lacking a proper training camp, the decorated Russian southpaw saved the event and caused immense trouble for the champion in the early rounds. Capitalizing on superior timing, amateur credentials, and his southpaw stance, Matt regularly caught Charlo with precise straight lefts and took the opening third of the bout. In the second half, Charlo adjusted to the distance, picked up the tempo, and seized control with heavy right crosses and relentless pressure as Korobov began to fatigue. The 12th round provided the most dramatic moment when Charlo badly hurt Korobov with a flush left hook and pressed for the stoppage, but Matt displayed incredible resilience to survive to the final bell. According to CompuBox stats, Charlo landed 170 of 654 punches thrown (26%), while Korobov connected on 128 of 457 (28%). While the official verdict sparked controversy due to one overly wide scorecard (119–108), the fight itself was highly entertaining, earning Korobov widespread respect from fans and giving Charlo a tough yet valuable test against a elite-level southpaw.
