New York Undercover didn’t just break ratings — it broke GROUND. The first U.S. drama with two leads of color, the best soundtrack on television, cameos from every legend of the era, and stories that hit different for the culture. 😤
@MalikYoba as Detective J.C. Williams showed what it looked like to be a Black father, a partner, AND a protector of the block — all at once. Holding family down while keeping the community safe. He gave us a blueprint for being everything to everybody — without losing himself.
@MichaelDeLorenzo as Eddie Torres gave us a real picture of Latino brotherhood — the weight of policing the same neighborhoods that raised you, and the loyalty of riding for your partner like he’s blood. 🤝🏾
Together? J.C. and Eddie were the blueprint for on-screen brotherhood..
With the lineup of icons who performed at Natalie’s — Mary J. Blige, Heavy D, Notorious B.I.G., Aaliyah and more 🎤 — and you have a show that was a love letter to the city, the culture, and the community that raised us. 🗽✊🏾
That’s exactly why @thebricktv is where it belongs — right next to In Living Color, Coming to America, and every classic that raised us. No edits. No watered-down versions. The real one.

Low Down Dirty Shame is a 1994 action comedy starring Keenen Ivory Wayans as Andre Shame, a former LAPD detective turned private investigator. After being pushed out of the police force due to a setup by his corrupt former partner, Captain Nolen, Shame operates his own detective agency alongside his loyal and sharp-witted assistant, Peaches, played brilliantly by Jada Pinkett Smith.

The plot kicks into gear when Shame takes on a high-stakes case involving a ruthless drug lord named Ernesto Mendoza. This assignment forces Shame to cross paths with his ex-girlfriend Angela, who happens to be mixed up with Mendoza's criminal empire. Blending high-energy martial arts combat, explosive shootouts, and Wayans signature comedic timing, the movie delivers a quintessential nineties urban action ride.

Along the way, Shame and Peaches must navigate double crosses, protect innocent lives, and settle old scores. The film stands out largely for the electric on-screen chemistry between Wayans and Pinkett Smith, whose dynamic steals the show. It ultimately serves up a satisfying mix of pulse-pounding thrills and lighthearted humor, cementing its place as a fun, memorable entry in the nineties action comedy genre.

The Blade movie collection stars Wesley Snipes as the half vampire daywalker fighting supernatural forces across three main films: Blade (1998), Blade II (2002), and Blade: Trinity (2004).

As a cinematic property, Blade holds a unique place in comic book history. It was the first major Marvel Comics theatrical hit, proving that dark comic adaptations could be massive box office successes and paving the way for modern superhero franchises like X-Men and Spider-Man.

While earlier Marvel adaptations like Howard the Duck and The Punisher existed, Blade broke the mold for modern comic book blockbusters. It is distinct from the modern interconnected Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), which officially began a decade later with Iron Man in 2008, since the original trilogy was produced by New Line Cinema before Marvel Studios began self financing its films. taken in Columbus, Ohio by @thebricktv

Released in 1984 and directed by Wes Craven, A Nightmare on Elm Street is a classic supernatural slasher film that follows a group of teenagers tormented in their dreams by Freddy Krueger, a horribly disfigured child murderer wearing a glove with razor-sharp metal blades.

Krueger was hunted down and burned alive years earlier by vengeful neighborhood parents. Now, he returns from the dead to exact revenge by attacking the teenagers in their sleep. The central rule of the film is terrifyingly simple: if Freddy kills you in your dreams, you die in real life.

The story primarily focuses on Nancy Thompson, a resourceful teenager who realizes the terrifying connection between her friends' gruesome nocturnal deaths and their shared past. As sleep becomes a fatal trap, Nancy must stay awake long enough to uncover Freddy's origins and lure him out of the dream world into reality to stop his killing spree once and for all. Blurring the line between fantasy and reality, the movie launched a legendary horror franchise and introduced one of cinema's most iconic villains. taken in Columbus, Ohio by @thebricktv

Released in 2001 and directed by Keenen Ivory Wayans, Scary Movie 2 is a supernatural comedy that parodies iconic horror films like The Haunting, The Exorcist, and Poltergeist.

The plot follows a crooked professor who lures a group of college students to a supposedly haunted mansion under the false pretenses of a school sleep study. In reality, the professor and his butler are investigating paranormal activity. The eclectic group of survivors from the first movie soon find themselves terrorized by lecherous ghosts, possessed objects, and a creepy caretaker with a deformed hand.

Blending slapstick comedy, gross out humor, and pop culture satire, the film leans heavily into absurdity. Notable scenes include an aggressive possessed parrot, a meal interrupted by a ghost chef, and a battle with a poltergeist in a bedroom. While critics gave it mixed reviews, it became a commercial success at the box office and cemented the franchise's place in early 2000s comedy history. by @thebricktv

Eve's Bayou (1997), written and directed by Kasi Lemmons, is a haunting Southern Gothic drama set in 1962 Louisiana. The story centers on ten year old Eve Batiste, who belongs to a wealthy, prominent Black Creole family. Eve’s world shatters when she discovers her charismatic physician father, Louis, engaged in an extramarital affair.

As Eve attempts to make sense of her father's secret life, a tangled web of family secrets, betrayal, and memory begins to unravel. Her older sister Cisely and eccentric aunt Mozelle, who possesses psychic second sight, each process the family's fractured reality through their own perspectives. Struggling with deep feelings of guilt and confusion, Eve seeks out a local voodoo practitioner to seek revenge, setting off a devastating chain of events.

Richly atmospheric and beautifully acted by Jurnee Smollett, Samuel L. Jackson, and Lynn Whitfield, the film explores how memory shapes truth and how perception alters reality. Eve's Bayou remains a powerful masterpiece about childhood innocence, family trauma, and the complex nature of truth.

Directed by Bernard Rose and based on Clive Barker’s short story "The Forbidden," Candyman (1992) follows Helen Lyle, a Chicago graduate student researching urban legends. She stumbles upon the myth of the Candyman: the vengeful spirit of Daniel Robitaille, a 19th-century Black artist who was brutally lynched after falling in love with a white woman. According to lore, if you say his name five times in front of a mirror, he appears armed with a hook for a hand and a torso filled with bees to slay his summoner.

Is the $1,000 bee sting story true?

Yes, it is completely true. Star Tony Todd negotiated a special clause in his contract granting him a $1,000 bonus for every bee sting he sustained while filming the iconic climax with real, live bees. Todd ended up getting stung 23 times (though he has joked in interviews about counting up to 27), earning an extra $23,000 in bonus pay for the sequence. taken in Columbus, Ohio by @thebricktv
