Brown Scholar Akku Kumar co-founded Arrow Analytics in 2024, a company using AI-powered depth camera systems to scan passenger baggage and deliver real-time insights on bag counts, sizes, overhead bin usage, and boarding trends, helping optimize the entire boarding process. His company has already won numerous business competitions, and most recently placed 7th at the prestigious Rice Business Plan Competition.

Arrow Analytics has also secured significant funding and launched a pilot deployment with Southwest Airlines and the Gerald R. Ford International Airport in Grand Rapids, Michigan. At GRR, Akku became the first college startup founder accepted into GRR FLITE, a program that provides grants and testing opportunities for aviation innovation.

Akku and his team are saving time and money for both passengers and airlines, while embodying the unrelenting ambition shared by all Brown Scholars.

This summer, incoming sophomore E2EnMed Brown Scholars participated in the Houston Methodist Summer Undergraduate Research Internship (SURI), an immersive 10-week opportunity for students interested in pursuing a career in medicine. Each scholar was paired with a Houston Methodist mentor and conducted hands-on research under their guidance.

The program culminated in a poster symposium, where scholars presented their research findings. We’d like to give a special shoutout to Audrey Paolino for earning Outstanding Intern, as well as Divya Thomas, Rohan Sivva, and Shriya Suryakumar for being recognized as some of the most determined interns of the summer!

Beyond the lab, our Brown Scholars also had the opportunity to explore Houston and spend time with fellow Scholars throughout the summer. by @thebrownfound

A childhood dream come true, Brown Scholar Anna Claire Holleman has officially begun her next chapter at the Texas A&M University Vashisht College of Medicine. Just a few weeks in, she is already embracing the same spirit of service, leadership, and community that defined her undergraduate journey.

We’re thrilled to celebrate Brown Scholar Anisha Menezes, who has been named a recipient of the prestigious 2026 Astronaut Scholarship from the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation (ASF). This year, 79 undergraduate students from 54 nationwide colleges and universities received this award. The scholarship recognizes exceptional achievement in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics and recipients receive up to $15,000 and a fully funded trip to the ASF Innovators Symposium and Gala.

This August, Anisha will travel to the ASF Innovators Symposium and Gala, where she will present her research, connect with fellow Astronaut Scholars, and begin a lifetime of networking and mentorship with astronauts, scientists, and industry leaders.

Congratulations, Anisha, on this extraordinary achievement. We are incredibly proud of what you have accomplished and look forward to watching your continued impact in research and innovation.

At Texas A&M, Anisha has distinguished herself through an impressive commitment to undergraduate research. She is a research assistant in the AGGIES Lab, co-authoring two research papers exploring AI-generated phishing emails and the role of artificial intelligence in social media. She also contributed to Project SMART, examining the relationship between social media use and adolescent mental health. Additionally, Anish founded the Aggie Undergraduate Research Association, helping students navigate and become involved in undergraduate research opportunities.

Reflecting on the award, Anisha shared:

“I was beyond excited when I got the email that I received the Astronaut Scholarship! The process was quite long, and I had major imposter syndrome the entire time. It’s really easy to get in your head about how there’s always be more you can be doing and all the ways you don’t measure up. However, I’m really glad I took the opportunity and applied regardless of my apprehensions!” by @thebrownfound
