The newest addition to AD’S GYM.. the REP PR-5000 w/ Smith Machine attachment. Sold my epic Cybex Smith to free up more room and now I’m able to incorporate the same movement on my Power Rack. This unit is built like a tank, amazing quality, welds and finish. The Smith glides are incredibly smooth and are adjustable for angled presses as well. Constant evolution keeps things fun 😉

The latest arrival to AD’S GYM.. the PRIME Fitness Selectorized Leg extension/Curl! Shout out to PRIME for hitting it out of the park with this epic piece. From delivery to display, the finish, engineering, functionality and aesthetics are second to none. The Cam design is pure ingenuity and innovation. It allows users to manipulate the strength curve from harder at the start of a rep to the finish and micro adjustments in between. Very few pieces of commercial equipment excel in dual functioning movements but this design delivers and is effortless in the transition from leg extension to lying leg curls. What do you think of the custom color weight stack shield in blue?

Stay tuned for pics and videos of the newly laid out gym 🙏

Delt day! For the past year, presses have been moved last in the rotation. The reason… for me, it’s simply not a superior movement for shoulder growth. Focusing on rear and side heads first provides me not only ample warm-up but more intensity when my shoulders are fresh. By the time presses come around I’m forced to back down on weight, leading to a better focus and overall safety. The PRIME FT is an absolute game changer. I recently tried out lying, rear delt flyes with the cuffs ( 1st video ) and the added back support makes this my new favorite for torching the often neglected rear delts. I find the cuffs to be far superior to dumbbells as they offer constant tension and a more even strength curve.

On my last movement ( not shown ) I perform standing OHP on my Cybex Smith. Because my Smith Machine is angled, I lean into more like a Viking Press. Absolute, torturous finisher. As a side note, the press I’m using is none other than the Cybex Plate Loaded, Converging OG Overhead press. Without question, one of the single best shoulder presses I’ve used… and I’ve used just about all of them! by @thebuffhungarian

What’s my training split at 55 yrs old? I get asked that all the time so.. let’s dive in.

My method of training really hasn’t changed in nearly 20 yrs. The reason? Because for me it’s very effective. I’ve always utilized what’s referred to as a “ bro split “. In simple terms, I hit each body part, once per week. There’s countless influencers, pro bodybuilders, that preach split training whereby your program is designed to work each body part twice. Usually this broken out between push, pull and legs. The thinking is that by targeting each muscle twice in one week, the muscle is trained more consistently and frequently but with less volume hopefully leading to better muscle response and recovery.

I’ve tried this and the issue, being an old school bodybuilder, is that I simply didn’t feel adequate fatigue and stimulation of the target muscle given the fewer exercises per muscle group. I LOVE to lift. For me, at least for major body parts, I may include 4- 5 movements, each working set to,at, or near failure. That means 2 gradually increasing warmups ( these should still be challenging ) followed by 2 sets to failure. I’ll often include drop sets or some variation for the last set to push failure even further. With this style of training, the target muscle is fully taxed to the point where 1-2 days of rest is simply not possible for adequate recovery. My muscles are typically sore for days. This isn’t necessarily a proxy for a great workout BUT.. for me, it’s my gauge of adequate hypertrophy for muscle growth.

My goal is that the following week, I either go up in weight slightly, increase reps slightly or even manipulate the same training the week prior but simply slow the cadence of each rep. This “ progressive “ increase in my workouts is essential to keep my body guessing and challenge yourself constantly. What’s great about this type of programming is that I can always add an extra day to target a muscle group I’d like to bring up faster.

At the end of the day, experimentation will show you best how your body responds. Bodybuilding is NOT a one trick pony. That’s one of the reasons I love the lifestyle. by @thebuffhungarian

Been meaning to add a little wall art to AD’S GYM and just had these two pieces custom made. The PRIME sign is a tribute to what I believe, is the best commercial gym equipment manufacturer in the business. Proud to have this displayed. The other is my gyms logo. This took a bit of creativity and work to tie the HUE Gradient Light Strip on the back but the results are amazing.

A huge shout out to @twisted barbell for creating these beautiful, stainless steel masterpieces. The designs were laser cut and in the case of the PRIME sign, adhered to plywood and back painted to expose the cutouts. The AD’S GYM sign had a matte acrylic backing used to diffuse the light colors. Both have stainless steel wall spacers to provide a “ 3D “ look. Marcus sent me progress picks every step of the way and even included a video of the design being cut from the steel. Amazing gentleman to work with, incredibly detail oriented and proud of his work 👏👏🙏

Ended arms today with some hammer curls. Slow, methodical reps with a hard squeeze at the top. I grip my dumbbells in the middle to activate my forearms as well. Just personal preference. Sitting at 205lbs now before I begin a mini, clean bulk. The goal is 212/215 tops which I’ll maintain for a while to try and put a little muscle on this old fella 😉 by @thebuffhungarian
