MEET THE CREW #1 · Janne Saarakkala
Writer, director and performer.

“I’ve written a play together with my colleague Moe Mustafa, and we will perform it together on the Stoa main stage – with a car.”

For Janne, the show is about “the conflict between security and sexual freedom, the mess in which love stays undefined and nobody understands what it is.”

Why see it? “Because you are or will be in this mess too, and because this is a rare event of gay theatre in Finland.”

Who is it for? “For gay people, queer people, people of color, immigrants, English speakers and anyone familiar with the mess I’m talking about. The raw gay point of view will bring new perspectives to it and invigorate you.”

And working with the car? “It’s like being in a tumble dryer with it.” 🌀

"Each meeting with it leaves us with bruises!" – Janne Saarakkala

Meet the third character: a 1977 Moskvitch pick-up.

"A car ride arrived first as an idea to pull together the discussions Moe and I had for over a year. It gave the performance its frame and a physical focal point on stage. To me it symbolises intimacy, power and the movement of life. On stage the car is like a third actor that makes everything extremely physical and choreographed."

Found in one backyard in Riihimäki, last registered on the road in the 1990s, and brought back to life for the stage by @lavasteverstas_graniitti 🔧

"Lavalla auto on kuin kolmas näyttelijä, joka tekee kaikesta äärimmäisen fyysistä ja koreografioitua." Auto löytyi omistajansa takapihalta Riihimäeltä, oli viimeksi rekisterissä 1990-luvulla, ja @lavasteverstas_graniitti herätti sen henkiin näyttämöä varten.
