Planning a high school reunion is hard work and I didn’t wanna do it but my best friend of 20+ years made me. One, because I was the class president and I signed an invisible contract and two, because people had been asking me, a year prior, if we were going to have one. I knew I couldn’t make it a priority so I called for help and found the ultimate dream team who I like to call my Queen Team. 👑

And then the reunion came. Oh what a night! Everything from the iconic hometown venue, decorations, music, food, and all the people were just the best vibe. Even the Bakersfield weather was so perfect for us and we had the most amazing time. Like I said, we are no longer teenagers or young adults but we are not that old either. We all just grew up and everyone looked damn good! Great job 2006!

We don’t live in high school. Nor would we ever want to. That’s not the point of reunions. It’s to live life. Grow. Transform. Learn lessons. And then come back. Sometimes you want to. Sometimes you don’t. But when you do, boy. What a feeling. They say in 10 years, no one has really changed. But 20, that is where it’s at. And they were right.

We have lived many lifetimes since that time in our lives. And I am so happy that I could be a part of your lives then and still now. Happy to have made a difference or impact in some way. Thank you all for being such a big part of mine.

That was fun. Let’s do it again! Who’s down? 😉

Manila International Film Festival 🇵🇭🎞️🎬
📍Hollywood, CA 🌟

Out here, the stars shine so bright for their moment in the spotlight. They carry a story. A passion. A purpose. A need to express their art. Their heart. On the outside, it may seem appealing to the eyes, but strip down all the make up and you see they’re human, just like you and I. Thats the beauty of this art. You connect to the ones who see the unseen and tell their stories up on a screen. That’s huge. That’s called a dream. Even better, I was surrounded by people who share the same deep rooted story as me. It was so beautiful to be here and for our people to be seen. 🤍

That being said, I had a such a wild and wonderful time attending the @manilaintlfilmfest and supporting all the fabulous Filipino/Fil-Am made films at the event. Lots of laughs and connections and moments and memories were made and I’m grateful to be here for it. s/o to my family who I’m always so proud of to support. I love you guys. ❤️

Congratulations to everyone who was a part of it. Let’s keep making noise out here and keep it going mga Kababayan! And as they say in @forgottenislandmovie , “TAYO NA!” (LET’S GO!) ❤️💙💛

I got to witness @msleasalonga , the FIRST Filipino to receive a star on Hollywood Blvd. A monumental moment in entertainment history. It was a childhood dream to see her in person and to be there to support and show love. The Filipinos do not play when it comes to supporting our people. We showed UP and showed OUT. 🇵🇭❤️💙💛

Also, watched a special premiere showing of @forgottenislandmovie at the @manilaintlfilmfest . 🌴☀️Please go watch this film. It was phenomenal in every single way. 🥹🤎

Thank you @kayevillareal for the invite. Beautiful day in every sense. Follow your heart and the universe will take it from there. ❤️ taken in Hollywood by @thecharpod

A dream!!! 😍✨ 11/10 would highly recommend seeing @hellskitchenbway . Every performance, stellar and captivating while bringing a new meaning to Alicia Keys’ songs. The storytelling was absolutely beautiful and emotional. Inspirational and simply phenomenal. @aliciakeys and her vision with this production is poetry in every art form. It was everything that I was looking for. IYKYK 😉🎵 thank you @linneazionaire for this experience. 🫶🏽 One for the books! 💙💛 taken in Hollywood Pantages Theatre by @thecharpod

How I Met My Favorite Poet!

*cousin @ariannabasco__ telling me about a commercial they shot with @therealshihan *

Me: I wanna meet Shihan. I used to watch his “love” poem all the time on YouTube in college on repeat. He was my favorite one.
Arianna: I’m sure you’ll meet him one day.

*45 mins later at football fields. Arianna on phone.*

Arianna: Where are you? We’re here. Oh. I see you. I’m right in front of you.

*looking up to see who she’s talking to*

Me: Is that Shihan??
Arianna: Yeah
Me: WTH? I just told you I wanted to meet him like 45 mins ago!
Arianna: Oh, I guess I forgot to tell you. He’s Rory’s coach.
Me: How do you forget to tell me that?? 😂

I discovered the art of spoken word poetry back in my college days. I would watch Def Poetry Jam videos, studying the form, technique and style of these poets. I tried to emulate and create my own cadence with my own words and find my own style. Shihan‘s “This Type Of Love” poem was one that stood out to me then and still stands out to me now. And though I knew he was friends with the fam, I’ve always wanted to meet him to tell him that he inspired me and my poetry. So here I am…standing in the middle of two of the most moving and inspiring spoken word poets I know and I got to do just that. A full circle moment. My life.🤍✍🏽

P.S. Bring back Def Poetry Jam!!! s/o to @therealshihan for writing this masterpiece I discovered so long ago and my cuz @ariannabasco__ who witnesses my dreams and manifestations IRL 😂🫶🏽 by @thecharpod
