“Not every opportunity is an opportunity. Sometimes it is a distraction.” 🎯💭 How many times have we said yes to something just because we felt like we should be grateful, even when it completely drains our energy or pulls us backward? In S2E4 of The Check In with Sade Speaker, Author and Coach Tamu Thomas @Tamu.Thomas shares a massive truth about discernment: we have to stop offering vulnerable parts of our journey and ambition to people who simply don’t have the capacity to meet us at the level of our self-esteem. A word!! When you win, you deserve people in your corner who champion you out loud & when you’re nervous, people who send affirmations and speak life into you instead of projecting their own limitations. Surround yourself with people who can hold space for the full version of who you’re becoming. We want us all winning! 🤍 Full episode streaming now on YouTube & Spotify! “You’re not supposed to stay in the crawling phase forever without learning to walk and run!” 😭🏃🏾‍♀️💨 Who else thought hitting a wall with that 24/7 grind meant you’d somehow “lost your edge”? Turns out, your body just refuses to be played with anymore!! In S2E4 of The Check In Speaker, Author and Coach Tamu Thomas @Tamu.Thomas breaks down the 3 career phases women navigate & why so many of us get trapped in the exhausting middle: ✨ Idealistic Achievement (20s–early 30s): Try everything, pure energy, you’ve got the stamina, the vibes, and zero fear of testing the waters. ✨ Pragmatic Endurance (late 20s–late 30s): The ultimate juggle. Managing teams at work, holding down home life & literally enduring the hustle. ✨ Reinventive Contribution (mid-40s+): The boss level. You know your worth, and you’re leveraging wisdom instead of working yourself into the ground to prove a point. Your body isn’t designed to stay in survival mode forever. Ambition doesn’t die when you slow down; it just stops being a weapon to validate your worth and turns into an energy that actually serves you!! Watch now on YouTube & Spotify!! “Unfortunately, it took the panic attack for me to take it seriously.” 🥺💔 How many times have we ignored what our bodies are screaming at us just to keep up with hustle culture? S2E4 of The Check-In, author, speaker & coach Tamu Thomas @tamu.thomas joins me to unpack the harsh reality of toxic productivity. We get into why slowing down feels genuinely terrifying for high-achievers, the subtle warning signs before a crash, and how to finally choose real satisfaction over endless burnout pluuuus why a morning twerk belongs in your wellness routine!! “I think we still need a Black History Month just to be annoying.” 😭💀 Because let’s be for real: the way corporations and institutions roll out the jollof rice, patties, and generic graphics every October like clockwork is becoming more & more laughable. In S2 E3, @kelechnekoff breaks down why Black History Month isn’t just about cultural celebrations, it’s about never letting society forget why we are here, and keeping the pressure on until real reparations are paid!! Tell me are you exhausted by performative BHM campaigns, or do you still value having the dedicated space every October? It the official Black Girl Day Off today!! But the fact that it falls on a Sunday this year does feel slightly cheeky 😭 But consider this your official sign to actually pause, exhale, and check in with yourself. 🤍 Whenever I ask my guests how they check in with themselves, I’m reminded that checking in looks completely different for everyone: whether that’s dancing in the mirror in your underwear, catching up on unapologetic sleep, working out in pure silence, or checking in with your inner child before making big moves. No guilt, no rushing, no cooking if you don’t want to. Take the rest, you’ve more than earned it 🤍 How are you pouring into yourself this weekend? Drop it below 💭 #BlackGirlDayOff #TheCheckInWithSade #WorldMentalHealthDay #BlackGirlRest #SelfCareRoutine How are you checking in with yourself this Black Girl Day Off? 💆🏾‍♀️✨ by @thecheckinwithsade
Nothing hurts quite like having to burst their little bubble when they’re still so young 🥺 @kelechnekoff talked about having to sit her 6-year-old down to explain what racism actually means after a footballer he likes - Lamine Yamal was dealing with abuse on the pitch, & honestly, it just hurts your heart. That whole feeling of “how do I even begin to explain this to a six-year-old?” is something so many Black parents know too well. You just want them to enjoy being a kid but the world never really waits. Instead of sitting in that sadness though, Kelechi puts all that energy into building & doing the work so her son & the children at her home in Nigeria have a world that’s a little bit softer for them. Talk to me in the comments: how old were your little ones when that conversation first came up? How did you even navigate it? 💭 Full convo is up on YouTube and Spotify, link in bio 🤍 #TheCheckInWithSade #KelechiOkafor #parenting #BlackMotherhood #LamineYamal How old were your kids when “the chat” had to happen? 💔 by @thecheckinwithsade
“We need a new way of doing things. The old boys’ club can rot” S2 E3 is officially LIVE and the iconic Kelechi Okafor @kelechnekoff, Muvva of London, came to Check In!! 🔥🔥 We laughed, we gasped, and we got into everything: From whether London is ready for her 2028 mayoral bid, to why men need to put down the hustle books and go read fiction. We unpack the truth behind diaspora wars, why Black History Month is non-negotiable until reparations land, healing past generations through her children’s home in Nigeria, and why a preemptive block is sometimes the highest form of peace 💅🏾 Zero fluff, zero PR answers, just real chat backed up all the way. Can Pan-Africanism actually work without unified African institutions? 🏛️🌍 “There needs to be more of a global Black power base... Pan-Africanism is a political movement first and foremost.” 🤍 Historian and founder of @panafricanacademy Ekaete Alfred strips away the social media confusion surrounding Pan-Africanism. Too often it gets watered down into online aesthetics or mixed up with cultural pro-Blackness, but the real movement was built on economic and political leverage from shared continental policies to bringing the diaspora in as Africa’s sixth region so Black people worldwide hold true collective power. When asked for one piece of African history that everyone needs to know, historian and founder of @panafricanacademy Ekaete Alfred told the legendary story of Queen Amanirenas of Kush. Not only did she defeat the Roman army, but she decapitated the bronze statue of Emperor Augustus, buried his head beneath the walkway to her palace, and ensured that everyone who entered had to literally walk over him. Talk about unmatched power and authority!! 👑🔥 Our history is packed with incredible victories, brilliant tacticians, and royalty that never make mainstream textbooks. S2 E2 is OUT NOW! Did you know the UK had its own bus boycott in Bristol? 🚌🇬🇧 “Every school I’ve worked in has had a unit called ‘Black People of the Americas’... but there is no equivalent for Britain.” In S2 E22 history teacher and founder of @panafricanacademy Ekaete Alfred points out a massive blind spot in UK education: why do British schools teach so much about Black American civil rights while completely ignoring Black British history? From Rosa Parks to Martin Luther King Jr., we know the American milestones yet barely half of people know that right here in 1963, the Bristol Bus Boycott paved the way for the UK’s first Race Relations Act. Why are we overlooking our own history on home soil? Episode 2 of The Check-In is OUT NOW!! “We shouldn’t need one... but until we reach that point, what is the harm in a month where our history is amplified and celebrated?” 🤍 In S2 E2, history teacher and founder of @panafricanacademy Ekaete Alfred gets real about the age-old debate surrounding Black History Month. She calls out the contrarians who say “it’s Black history all year” asking if they’re actually teaching and celebrating it year-round or just using it as an excuse to avoid the conversation altogether 👀👀 When mainstream schools are still primarily reducing our history to slavery and struggle, having a dedicated time to spotlight our kings, queens, and victories matters!! From internet comment wars and the FBA vs. diaspora discourse to why Black history cannot simply be condensed into struggle and slavery, Ekaete breaks down what real Pan-African unity and historical grounding actually look like.
