Hi! We’re Ulrike and Karoline - the owners of The Churn Room 👋

We realised that while many people know and love The Churn Room, not everyone actually knows us... so we thought it was time to introduce ourselves properly.

We’ve owned The Churn Room for a little over a year now, and while we’re usually happiest working quietly behind the scenes, our commitment to this beautiful creative space - and to the artisans, artists and community who make it special - is stronger than ever.

The heart of The Churn Room has always been the people within it:
- the artisans creating thoughtful handmade and slow-made products
- the artists sharing their work through exhibitions
- the teaching artisans passing on creative skills through workshops
- the visitors and locals who support creative small business in our region

Without these people, The Churn Room would not be what it is: a true destination for those who love to create, and those who love what's created.

Ulrike is an artist herself, creating mixed media abstract works, as well as the chef behind The Homestead Chef - rescuing local fruits and turning them into delicious cordials and preserves.

Karoline is a lifelong maker, creating jewellery featuring handmade glass beads, along with copper-foiled stained glass suncatchers and mobiles.

Both of us have strong ties to the Dayboro community, and when the opportunity arose to take over The Churn Room, we jumped at it - because we believed spaces like this matter.

Over the past year we’ve been working hard behind the scenes; growing our exhibitions, workshops, artisan markets and our Artisan Store. Our focus is on connecting thoughtful and creative makers and artists with the wider community.

The Churn Room isn’t going anywhere - if anything, we’re only just getting started ❤️

Thank you to everyone who continues to support local creativity, local makers and our little corner of Dayboro. We look forward to seeing you at The Churn Room!

CALLING ARTISANS & MAKERS: Join The Churn Room Artisan Store

We are currently inviting expressions of interest from local makers who would like to be represented in The Churn Room Artisan Store.
These opportunities are limited and do not come up often.

WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR:
Local artisans and makers who have...
• A love of handmade/slow-made/small batch products�
• Pride in thoughtful craftsmanship and presentation�
• A desire to grow their creative business beyond markets�
• An interest in being part of a supportive and collaborative artisan community�
• A willingness to engage positively with customers and visitors�
• Consideration for ethical or sustainable creative practices

WHAT WE OFFER:
The Churn Room is more than a retail space - we're a dedicated creative destination in Dayboro (northwest of Brisbane), bringing together makers, artists and the wider community.

We offer:
• A curated and dedicated artisan store showcasing high-quality handmade products�
• Monthly sales reporting and artisan payments made within the first week of each month�
• Flexible participation options based on time, capacity and level of involvement�
• Shared floor space, along with dedicated display opportunities�
• Connection with customers through an engaging in-store experience�

Ulrike and Karoline went on an adventure yesterday to the opening of “Here & Now, Now & Then” by friends, ceramicists, and artisans Belinda Krumm (@carbonblackceramics) and Linda Back (who doesn’t do socials!!)… now on at the Metcalfe Gallery, Brisbane Institute of Art in Windsor (@brisbane_institute_of_art)

What a wonderful collection of work from two incredibly talented artists! Make the time to go and see this exhibition in person.

10-4 daily until 27 October, with the artists in gallery on Saturday and Sunday.

You're invited to the official opening for "Naturally Abstract", this Friday evening: 9 October, 6.00-8.00pm.

This exhibition celebrates abstract art, with nature as the subject... and we can't wait to unveil artworks that explore across a variety of techniques including painting, collage, ceramics, weaving and more, from artists across the greater Brisbane area!

By attending the opening, you get to see them before the general public.

We're proud to be showcasing a collection of textile artworks by Erica Aptroot @enzaa_art, the feature artist of Naturally Abstract.

Join some of the participating artists over a glass of wine (or non-alcoholic cordial), and our delicious grazing table.

In The Old Hay Shed, we’ll explore six graphite pencil techniques and then bring them together, step by step, to create this detailed rural scene.

It’s a lovely example of why drawing doesn’t need to begin with complicated techniques. Simple pencil marks, used in different ways and gradually layered together, and before you know it, you will have completed this beautiful artwork.
