Exactly one month ago today, I lost my mom. I was 2 days away from my NCLEX. I had been studying day in and day out for 2 months. My mom took a trip back to Colombia and unexpectedly went into cardiac arrest and was in the ICU for 7 days. It hurt more because I didn't see it coming, and she was 2,385 miles away. I couldn’t hug her, or tell her how much I loved her. The only thing I could do was pray. I prayed relentlessly so that she would recover and come back home to me.On August 10th, she passed. It felt like my world was over. I would cry everyday. I couldn't sleep at night.The last thing she said to me was “I know you are gonna pass that exam”. I flew out to Colombia to see her for the last time, and I told her that when I got back to the states, I was gonna pass this exam if it was the last thing I do. I asked God for strength. The past 4 years I thought I was preparing to be a nurse, but the reality was the NCLEX was never the real test … this was the real test. I was preparing for a test of faith, where there was only one choice, and I chose God. I had to surrender everything to him, I had to trust him, I had to remind myself everyday that he didn't bring me all this way to leave me now. On September 8th, 2021 he got me through 75 questions. And because of him I'm writing this today, as a registered nurse. I’m sharing this because there is nothing... absolutely NOTHING in this world that is too big for God. He is faithful. Remind yourself of how he got you through everything else, of how blessed you are, and that you are NEVER walking this earth alone. My mom will forever be my angel. She put everyone else’s needs before hers. She wasn’t a nurse but she saved so many lives, and now I can too. This one’s for you mom.
