🎭 The Clown School: Where Magic Happens 🎭

We have a new, beautiful promo video that captures the essence of what makes The Clown School so special! Founded in 2009, we've been helping students "break all the rules - be a clown" through transformative classes taught by world-class instructors.

Our incredible team includes David Bridel (Founder & Artistic Director), Mike Funt, Raquel Gendry, Danielle Levsky, Erik Engman, as well as many more guest instructors - all passionate about bringing vulnerability, authenticity, and beauty into the world through clowning.

From beginners to professionals, our classes help you discover the clown within.

"I think all people, big and small, fat and tall, outlandishly extroverted or shy and squeaky, believing or non-believing, happy or sad, beautiful or butt ugly, ready or not, should TAKE. THIS. CLASS." - KS, Los Angeles

The Idiot’s Paradise combines inspiration from Dostoyevsky’s classic novel The Idiot with the beloved French film Les Enfants Du Paradis.

Featuring four actors, an Emmy-Award winning Foley artist, an exquisite score, and an environment based entirely in the language of mime, this gorgeous production is a love story, a political and spiritual allegory, and a feast for the imagination.

October 8-17th, The Stomping Ground LA

i got recommended a video on clowns in the ministry some 2 years ago and fell so deeply in love with the philosophy of clowning that i decided to go to school to become one. it is perhaps the greatest thing i could have ever done for myself in so many ways. in times like these i must be free and surrender to The Moment whenever it feels possible. to be so free and feel anew in every breath i take feels like magic. thank you to God and Gaulier and everything and everyone in between that allowed me to end up in the position i am today. may i be so lucky to continue on this journey with childlike hope in my heart until the day my silly ass dies. and no i will never learn how to do balloon animals! i am terrified of balloons! please never ask me to do that! honk honk! kiss kiss! by @theclownschool

Opening in LA this October!

The Idiot’s Paradise is a ravishing melodrama that combines inspiration from Dostoyevsky’s classic novel The Idiot with the beloved French film Les Enfants Du Paradis.

Featuring four actors, one Foley artist, an exquisite score, and an environment based entirely in the language of mime, this gorgeous production is a love story, a political and spiritual allegory, and a feast for the imagination. Unabashedly theatrical and totally original, you may never have seen anything quite like it.

What if clowning isn’t only about becoming a better entertainer?

For David Bridel, founder of @theclownschool , clowning can be something much bigger: a celebration of human nature.

David invites us to think beyond the idea that clowning is simply a test of whether someone is funny or entertaining. When we open up the possibilities of what clowning can be, there are many more opportunities for what can emerge.

David recently released a wonderful new book, Clown vs. Dogma (May 2026).

In the book, David explores the origins and evolution of clowning - from its early impulses to contemporary forms - and looks closely at the practical experience of clowning in the studio. He connects the function of clowning with the ways it is taught and learned today, offering a rich exploration of an art form that has much to say about how we live, relate, play, and understand ourselves.
