This is possibly the most exciting coffee we have ever released as it embodies everything we love and value about specialty coffee.

5 years ago (yesterday) our good friends @rawmaterial.coffee launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the replanting of their farm (El Feníx) in Calarca Colombia, and the construction of a community wet mill at the farm. The farm is planted with an array of unique coffee varieties and acts as an experimental example of what can be achieved by planting the varieties. The community wet mill allows local farmers to come and process their own coffee to a very high level giving them the opportunity to capture more of the value of their coffee.

One of the rewards for the largest backing option was to have a plot of 1,000 trees of the extremely rare Wush Wush variety named after us. We also got the first harvest from this plot and the first option on each consecutive harvest. We had Miguel, who runs El Feníx, process this first harvest in a white honey and a natural process.

So here we are 5 years later and the baby trees have produced their first harvest which has made its way to our roastery in St Peter’s Sydney - through a national trucking strike in Colombia a global pandemic and ocean shipping crisis we might add. We couldn’t be happier with these two coffees and how they’re tasting.

Both lots are available on the website now. They’re also on their way to our café @gandt_kingst and a number of other cafes around the country (and even one overseas!). TIMOR-LESTE: URGENT APPEAL @rawmaterial.coffee

Over 14,000 people are homeless, without food or shelter, and are extremely vulnerable following devastating floods and landslides that began 4 April 2021.

These floods have struck during the worst COVID-19 outbreaks since lockdown. Roads are destroyed and power is intermittent.

The government relief package can only currently focus on the capital Dili, due to budget and information gathering constraints. As such, we are urgently asking for help to support those affected by the flooding across six coffee producing municipalities in the country.

We’ve been here before with the Nyabihu Appeal, the coffee community came out in droves to support. And just one year later, we urgently need you again. Please help us by giving what you comfortably can afford to, and share this message with everyone you know could also help.

If you know someone who works in the media or has a large circle of influence, please bring this to their attention.

Together we can not only help the families in immediate need, but we can work to break the cycle of disadvantage these communities face long term, by building resilience and investing in economic sustainability.
