“We RUN The Block, But Don’t OWN The Block”

(36”x36” - Mixed Media)

The title of the painting is a direct shot at how our thinking needs to be recalibrated because today is a new day and these are new times and we deserve and demand the best of everything. And it’s never to late to Create, Destroy and Rebuild.

Gentrification is major in poor urban areas,(hoods or ghettos however you may call it), often not owned by us. Growing up I realized a big part of our culture is thinking we do not deserve or cannot achieve success.

If we can create more of a positive narrative on how to build, educate , earn, own and be respectable, we can destroy the old negative narratives. The narratives of being gullible, unaware, lazy and naive, and focus on rebuilding our thought process. taken in Chicago, Illinois by @thecollinsboy

Courtney R. Collins is an emerging artist from the Chicago Land area. Collins' work is inspired by relationships, love,life struggles, success, current events and childhood nostalgia. My goal is to strike up memories from my childhood to adulthood thru my imagery and have it relate to others in return.

Summary on piece:

This piece was inspired by a blessing me and Lauren came together to create. Our first child Zen. I created this piece with nostalgia intent hence the big wheel, a child hood toy of mine. I painted a future image of my daughter that I envisioned enjoying herself with one as I once did. My partners last name is Flowers…Lauren Flowers. The flower symbology represents her side of the family and they make sure Zen is watered daily with love. The 4 birds are me and my 3 Brothers (Brendan, Brandon and Lamont)…the protectors that will always be close by but never be too far behind. Protecting my Flowers will be a life long journey for me that I look forward to enjoying every step of the way

🌼🏵️🌼 it's finally Summer in Chicago and we are celebrating with our new edition releasing this week with Chicago born and raised @thecollinsboy .

This beautiful 26 color rendition of his original canvas painting is inspired by his first child "Zen".

A little from Courtney:
