Back in 2022 @paul.rattenbury introduced me to the old Sydney Bouldering guidebook, first published in 2001, by Peter Balint. Paul had a goal to tick every climbable boulder in the book, including variants! I thought it was such an awesome goal and decided to also take up this challenge!

Since then, the old guide has been my bible! I take it everywhere I go, and get loads of joy climbing so many boulders from the guide that often get overlooked. It’s brought me on so many adventures, and it’s taught me to value climbing for climbing. Rather than just chasing grades or chasing classics. It’s definitely shaped the climber I am today.

So far I’ve climbed 429/1369!

The boulder in the post has been high on my list to climb in homage to Pete and as a thank you for huge role he played in the development of Sydney Bouldering. Mega stoked to have ticked this off! Thanks Pete for the stories, the boulders, the history!

Some high and less high boulders that I really enjoyed in various areas of Mizugaki ⛰️🌲 it has the best climbing I’ve ever experienced, & I barely scratched the surface! In 5 days I climbed 62 boulders, and still it didn’t feel enough 🥲

Extend @ Mitake

A short stay in Mitake, but a fulfilling one. The polished Chert offers a style of climbing I need a bit more practise on. The area as a whole is breath-taking!

Another favourite out here in the forest. Spent my birthday walking up the mountain getting lost for 3+ hours w/ @eddie.toth & @iamnastyb then heading back down and settling amongst the boulders in the Below Ozura Iwa. Ten wo Yuku Tori no Kawa - River of Heaven-Bound Birds @ Yo-No-Tani, Mt. Mizugaki

Such a beautiful line! Mt. Mizugaki has far exceeded expectations. The forest is magical, the boulders, overwhelming! Another place I will be returning to again and again for the rest of my life :)

3 weeks back in the Basin was no where near long enough. While there this trip, I thought I’d have a crack at Derek Thatcher’s #mantlemania list.

So here are 8/10 on that list.

*Unrepeatable has been repeated on past trips, and Mental Mantle got the best of me this time, so looking forward to returning for it next time!

I never tried the other tagged #mantlemania boulders, which only means more to look forward to next trip!

The Plunge @ Black Cave

Nice to finally climb at the popular Black Cave!! I think the first time I came here was when I first started climbing outdoors, and I remember working and struggling on Aquarius. Really fun late night session with @hayleyclimbs_ !! Will need to come back for the rest of the boulders and of course to repeat The Plunge, with the original dyno beta!! 😏🔥 by @thecoolestkid
