🎧 Everything Is Tuberculosis by John Green
⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

“Nothing is so privileged as thinking history belongs to the past.”

The fact that people once romanticised tuberculosis, even wanting the disease for its association with being thin. Imagine wanting an illness that has killed millions because society made being sick look beautiful.

I think this is a necessary read, especially when the subject is as serious as this one. Green does a good job of reminding us that tuberculosis isn’t just history, it still kills over a million people every year, despite being curable.

However, when it comes to health, it does piss me off. The solutions exist, but they’re not available to everyone. Classic. More sick people, better business for the healthcare system. Still, I guess that’s why books like this matter, to remind us that these diseases aren’t inevitable, and that access to treatment shouldn’t be a privilege.

📖 Whistler by Ann Patchett
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

“I have found that when you start to wonder about who you’ve hurt in this life, you can easily lose your mind.”

I feel like we were supposed to fall in love with Eddie! 🥹 What a story. This one is going to stay with me for a long time. I kept thinking about it even when I wasn’t reading it, and isn’t that what makes a book special?

I kept thinking about my rating for a while after finishing this book. You know when a book leaves you feeling so much that you just can’t decide?

But honestly, this is such an emotional story. It makes you think about how we’re shaped by things we may have forgotten, the people who stay with us long after we stop talking to them, and the memories we carry without even realizing it.

Because that’s real life, isn’t it? Sometimes, you just miss certain times, certain versions of yourself, and certain people who were once such a big part of your world.

Childhood doesn’t have to define your future. Some people change your life simply by being in it for a short time.

And it left me wondering…

What if you randomly met again someone you adored as a child? 💙

What I read in a week!

One audiobook and one physical book finished this week! 🤎 I rushed through “Whistler” a little because I had to return it to the library, luckily, I enjoyed it! Also, I decided to change my wallpaper, so… yeah, that’s that. 😂

Currently reading “East of Eden” and loving it, even though it’s a long one. I’m taking my time with this one and enjoying the journey. And who has seen the series yet? 👀 And I’ve finally started listening to “Weyward”, which has been sitting on my TBR for too long.

Also, celebrated one of my besties’ birthday 🫶

Tell me, what are you currently reading? 📖

Two books in one, so two reviews!

I recently realised that both of these books have been banned, and I can see why. These are definitely books I would recommend everyone to read. They really make you think, and Orwell writes beautifully!

⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️

📖 Animal Farm by George Orwell
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

I really loved the way this book was written. It’s short, but says so much, and it’s crazy how relevant it still is today.

I love how Orwell tells the story from the animals’ point of view, showing that, in the end, it doesn’t really matter whether we’re humans or animals; the same patterns of power, manipulation and following others repeat themselves.

A short book with a powerful message about power, manipulation, blind obedience and the importance of having your own opinion. And sadly, still so relevant today. 🐷

📖/🎧 1984 by George Orwell
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

“If the facts say otherwise then the facts must be altered”

I listened to the audiobook as well as reading it.

The book made me wonder how much of what we read about history we accept without questioning. Do we ever stop to think about who wrote it, why it was written that way, and whose version of the truth we’re being told?

At the end of the day, it’s up to us to question things and decide what we believe. 👁️

Both books are full of powerful quotes and thought-provoking ideas. They make you reflect on the world we live in, even long after you’ve finished reading.

These two are perfect for book club picks!

Have you read either of these books? 🖤

📖 Where the Crawdads sing by Delia Owens
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

The book was just as beautiful as I remembered the movie being. I watched the movie ages ago, maybe 2–3 years ago, and I loved it so much that when I came across the book in a thrift shop, I just had to get it. It took me a while to finally read it, but I did, and it was so captivating. 🪶

I also rewatched the movie, and yes, it was just as sad and incredible as I remembered. 🐚

It’s such a heartbreaking story, especially when you think about how much our childhood shapes who we become. The way we approach relationships, the way we love, and the way we see the world are all influenced by how we were raised, what we witnessed, and what we missed out on. ❤️‍🩹

It’s also a powerful reminder that the most vulnerable among us can become easy targets, whether intentionally or not. Sometimes, the way people treat us says more about them and their circumstances than it does about who we truly are.

And then, of course, there’s that twist towards the end! 🕯️

I’m so happy I finally read this book. It reminded me all over again why I loved this story so much in the first place. 🤍

What I read in a week 📖🎧

A little bit of everything this week, lots of emotions. Managed to finish 3 books. 🤍

We also had a book club meeting, which was lovely as per usual!

And if you haven’t seen “Practical Magic 2” yet, I definitely recommend it! I loved it, I cried, I laughed, I felt it all. 🥹🪄

At the moment, I’m just getting started with “Whistler” and “East of Eden”- excited for both!! And I’m halfway through “Everything Is Tuberculosis”, which I also highly recommend!

📖 mis edasi, see alles selgineb - EiK
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

Igatahes sai @eikluuletab meie raamatuklubi näol endale mitu uut fänni juurde! Nüüd jääb üle vaid põnevusega oodata, mis edasi…

September recap 🍂

September was such a good reading month 🥹 I read 12 books, and somehow managed to tick off all three of my little end-of-year reading goals too! 🤍

✓ 1 classic — Animal Farm by George Orwell
✓ 1 nonfiction/memoir — We did ok, Kid by Anthony Hopkins
✓ 1 book from my bookshelf — Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens

I didn’t put too much pressure on myself to hit a certain number of books this month, especially since I already had a few library books waiting for me 🫣 But somehow the 12 books just happened quite naturally, and reading never really felt like a chore. ♡

And honestly, I really liked having these little goals in the background. They gave me a bit of structure without making my reading feel like a checklist, while still letting me pick up whatever I was in the mood for.

September also gave me my first 5⭐️ read of the year 🤎 “The Love of My Afterlife” completely stole my heart. I had a whole movie playing in my head while reading it, and the London setting made me miss living there so much. 🥹

12 books, lots of feelings, and finally that 5⭐️ read I’d been waiting for 📚

What was your favourite read of September? ♡

🎧 The September House by Carissa Orlando
⭐️⭐️.5

I went into this hoping I’d love it, but, honestly, I was quite disappointed. I think it would actually make a good movie! There were moments when I thought, “Oh, this is getting good!” but overall, it just didn’t live up to my expectations.

I don’t think it was entirely bad, though. It just wasn’t for me, and I wouldn’t say it was a complete waste of time. However, it was definitely a long one! 😀
