ROLEX SATURNO REF. 3029 — MADE FOR ONE YEAR ONLY Produced exclusively in 1937 and in very small numbers, the Rolex Saturno Ref. 3029 is one of the most unusual creations from Rolex’s pre-war era. Its spectacular 32 mm case is crafted from 18-carat pink gold. The wide, flat bezel features radial Roman numerals in black enamel, creating the distinctive ringed appearance that inspired its “Saturno” name. This example was retailed by Ronchi in Milan, whose signature appears on the dial beneath the centre seconds. Blued steel hands complete this remarkably architectural design. Inside is the manually wound Rolex calibre 10½''' Ultra-Prima, fitted with 18 jewels and adjusted to six positions. Son spectaculaire boîtier de 32 mm est réalisé en or rose 18 carats. Sa large lunette plate reçoit des chiffres romains radiaux en émail noir, formant les anneaux caractéristiques à l’origine de son surnom « Saturno ». Cet exemplaire fut commercialisé par Ronchi à Milan, dont la signature apparaît sur le cadran sous la seconde centrale. Rolex Oyster Perpetual Bubble Back Ref. 5087 “Ovetto” Parmi les Rolex les plus discrètes se cachent parfois les références les plus fascinantes. BEFORE THE OYSTERQUARTZ, THERE WAS THIS. The Rolex ref. 5100 “Texano”, introduced in 1970, is one of the most unusual watches in Rolex history. It was the brand’s first quartz watch, powered by the revolutionary Beta 21 movement developed through a collaboration between major Swiss watchmakers. It was also the first Rolex fitted with a sapphire crystal — and one of the first to feature a quick-set date. The initial series consisted of 1,000 numbered pieces and sold out before delivery. This example, number 374, is crafted entirely in 18k yellow gold, with a massive integrated Florentine-finished bracelet and a 39mm case designed around the oversized Beta 21 movement. Quartz. CARAMEL GOLD Rolex GMT-Master 16758 The first thing that catches the eye is, of course, the dial — a beautiful tropical evolution into a rich *caramel* tone. This kind of patina is not exceptionally rare. We have seen other Root Beer dials age in a similar direction before, but it remains incredibly striking every time. The combination of yellow gold, the brown insert and this warm caramel dial creates a particularly beautiful harmony. It gives the watch a softness and depth that works perfectly with the precious metal case. A familiar type of ageing, perhaps — but still one of the most attractive transformations you can find on a vintage GMT-Master. ——— 🇫🇷 Rolex GMT-Master ref. 16758, 1984. Ce qui attire immédiatement le regard, c’est bien sûr le cadran, qui a évolué vers une superbe teinte tropicale caramel. Ce type de patine n’est pas exceptionnellement rare. Nous avons déjà vu d’autres cadrans Root Beer évoluer dans cette direction, mais le résultat reste toujours aussi surprenant. L’association de l’or jaune, de l’insert brun et de ce cadran caramel crée une harmonie particulièrement chaleureuse. WHEN AGEING CREATES THE PERFECT CONTRAST. This Rolex Explorer II ref. 16550 shows exactly why some vintage watches become more beautiful with time. The dial, originally white, has developed a remarkable warm cream patina — while the luminous plots remain strikingly light. Cream against white. Warm against cold. Add the red 24-hour hand and the fixed steel bezel, and the result is an Explorer II with a character entirely its own. Not perfect because it stayed unchanged. Beautiful because it didn’t. ——— 🇫🇷 QUAND LE TEMPS CRÉE LE CONTRASTE PARFAIT. THE OTHER SUBMARINER. A beautiful 1971 Tudor Submariner ref. 7016/0 from the early “Snowflake” generation. Almost 55 years of ageing have transformed this example: a warm “Bubble” dial, beautifully patinated lume and a spectacular faded “Ghost” bezel. Even better, according to the seller, the case and folded-link Oyster bracelet remain unpolished. And the Rolex connection? These Tudor Submariners used Rolex Oyster cases, screw-down crowns and Oyster bracelets. Same family. Different personality. Price: approx. €8,700 Rolex Submariner or Tudor Snowflake? ——— 🇫🇷 L’AUTRE SUBMARINER. Une magnifique Tudor Submariner ref. 7016/0 de 1971, issue des premières générations « Snowflake ».
