POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
This month marks two years of the creation of The Crying Crustacean. It has been a creative space and passion project of mine since moving up to Hollywood two Autumns ago. While I am so proud of the pieces I have been able to publish through Substack, I also have dipped out of this space even more so in the last year as writer’s block finds its way back to me. It’s not intentional, but I fear the older I get, the more of a perfectionist I become. Writing used to flow so much more than it does now. I am so much more critical of the words I let others read. But I am taking this moment to confront that and try to trust in my own intention. That gut feeling is almost never wrong– it’s hard to believe it when you’ve never wanted to trust yourself before. That is my mission going forward, trusting myself more. I know I have a method to my madness, but I have to harness it and be proactive with it. Instead of letting ideas collect dust or sitting on the cutting room floor for too long. If not now– when. It’s time to cease the present moment and learn to not be afraid of capturing it in words. The more raw the better.
One way to focus is to step away from the chaos that being chronically online holds. It can’t happen that fast, but I hope to take time away from the doom scrolling as I’ve said before– and maybe I’ll continue my cycle of going away and coming back again. But I do learn something every time I step back. Like most importantly why I have wasted so much time grieving a past that has already happened. I’ve come to realize the real battle is to confront the future. The weddings and the funerals to come– I don’t know if I’ll be able to handle it now, but I have no choice but to be ready as time continues to fly past me. It never slows down, it only picks up its pace every lap. Don’t let it catch up to you. Always stay a few steps ahead.
May your Autumn bring you space away from any chaos that haunts you.
More from The Crying Crustacean soon. Lots of Love always to you (& especially to my 24 subscribers on Substack who are still hanging on, Thank you.)

Happy (Belated) Birthday to the one & only Lana Del Rey 🌟 @honeymoon
13 years of listening to you and I am so grateful for your impact on my own personal life, but also to music. There are so many stories and memories of being on tour with you since 2016. Overnights on the side of the street to get front row, or traveling across the country. I have seen so much because of you. I’ve made the bestest friends anyone could ever ask for because of you. And of course it only makes sense that you are born on the first day of Cancer season. You reign over all of the crying crabs, and this crying crustacean would not be here without you. Thank you forever & always.

“Summer comes, Winter goes, Spring I skip, God knows.” - @honeymoon

In uncertain times like these how do you keep your creative endeavors alive? I think of the writers who are grieving the future as AI generates words for the masses faster and faster every day. I think of all creatives who still have to work a job that is unfulfilling, but feeding the pocket— paying rent. We get stuck in the monotonous every day and we forget to keep our passion beating. The one good thing about this spring has been all the new music releasing. A soundtrack of distraction is everything I need when I feel unsure of what to do next. I have been stuck in these same cycles, but know I am the only one to take myself out of it. The past two springs have unfortunately mimicked each other. It wrapped its sleepy haze around me. One that urges me to lay in grief rather than jumping to action. If you find yourself hitting snooze, ride it out. When it’s time the muse will find you again. The second it does— grasp it tightly, cause it can escape just as fast.

The three part poetry collection, “Wintering”, is now complete to read on Substack. The pieces are titled,
“Bury Me Beneath Nana’s Olive Tree”, “Wintering”, & “Citrus Sting”. Each one drafted in a different part of the season. The first right at the start of the cold, and the last as a reflection.
Creating this collection has been so rewarding and something that has become more natural when creating pieces. I’ve always been inspired by the seasons and its ever changing nature.
I’ll be taking a step back from social media platforms as I bury myself in some good books & movies.
I hope spring brings everything you need to make it to summertime.
Lots of love always

2016 feels like an lifetime ago, but it is a year that sticks out more than others. For some reason we all collectively had an amazing year. I bet you still hear people talking about “Summer 2016”. Maybe it was the music? But you really had to be there. Nothing was better than being sixteen listening to some of the greatest albums. There really was something in the air and in the recording studio, because these artists gave their greatest gifts that year. What album do you remember the most from 2016?
If you haven’t read, “2025: A Year in Review” it is available to read at the link in my bio or on Substack.
