In January Lola and @thecutecook flew to Cape Town South Africa to film this Samsung commercial/short. Yesterday, Mommy & The Small spent the day making cempasúchil (marigolds) out of coffee filters and tissue paper for Hispanic Heritage Month/Beginning of Fall while watching the Selena biopic.
The Small audibly gasped when she found out why everyone hates Yolanda. (Poor Baby!)
We’re going to leave the garland up and add to it for Halloween and Dia de Los Muertos.

Today my little brother Jay would have turned 46 years old.
On his birthday he would ask that instead of gifts for him, everyone who knew him would instead do a random act of kindness for someone else just to try and make the world a little bit better and brighter.
DC City Council proclaimed his birthday August 17th, 2015 as a citywide day of service.
You may not be in DC, but won’t you help me keep my little brother’s legacy alive by doing something kind for someone else and #GiveLikeAJCIII?

We can’t go outside ‘cause the air is rotted from the Canadian wildfires.

Eat what feels good & will make you feel good in this bizarro summer we are having.
BEHOLD!
Super easy Jerk Burgers w/Toatone “buns.”
It can all be done indoors on the stovetop so you ain’t gotta turn on the oven or go stand outside in the orange air.
I put a plantain on top at first but ended up taking it off to be able to take bites without everything sliding all over the place.
You absolutely can (and should) make your own jerk seasoning unless you’re as fatigued as I am in which case just grab the jar and live your life!

Back in February we took a trip down to Mardi Gras in Mobile, Alabama, where Mardi Gras originated along the Gulf Coast after the Civil War. To say that we ate our collective weigh in fried seafood is an understatement! Stretchy waistbands were in FULL effect! 🤣
We went to @wintzells (TWICE,) @mobaybeignetco, @fairhopeparlor, @boxowt . @debrispoboymobile, & closed out the festivities with brunch at @brunchwithruby.

Wanna know a little secret?
I’m averse to treating myself.
If I think I can do it myself, 10 out of 10 times I will.
I know…I know…. That doesn’t align with self care AT ALL, but I’m working on it.
First step was going to @_beautyprint to correct my color and hook my curls up with a little shape.
I hadn’t had my hair professionally colored since I was in my 3rd trimester and Lo is turning 8 tomorrow.
I asked the good people of Threads for recommendations and @indiawilliamshair recommended @kisaalexander.
I looked up the shop online, made an appointment and hoped for the best.
Chile, the best is EXACTLY what I got.
I had such a dope experience in her shop.
Not only is it beautiful, stylish, and CLEAN, it gives the vibe of how neighborhood salons used to be.
Local community members stopped by to chat while she worked and how could they not? She is truly lovely.
She didn’t shame my DIY dye job or make me feel bad about trying to do things myself.
She listened to what led me to those choices and we joked as if we’d known each other for decades. Kisa explained everything in detail, recommended some products that might help and where I could get them, and worked for HOURS, to get the botched color I came in with right.
In Brooklyn, Black owned AND owned/operated by a woman?
💯% am planning on going back.
