The world will tell you not to invite them.

To keep your circle tight. To respect yourself and have those boundaries. It may even use more colorful language than that. Am I right?

Yet when we remember the seed never came from ourselves and it was never meant for simply, and only ourselves, we want as many people at that harvest as possible.

Just like they don’t determine your worth, you don’t determine theirs.

Tight circles as a result of offense will become lonely circles and bitter circles and we will sow sparingly in that heart posture.

And the truth is plant little amount of seed.

I wrote a book.☝️

My first.

My parents, @ewingjane @bob.ewing.3701 and my senior pastors @pastorjurgs @leannematthesius are my inspiration and reason for writing. @mrskellyewing has been my biggest cheerleader.

It has been a difficult journey to create, and such a joy at the same time. I’m excited to share it with you.

Preorders for THE CUP AND THE PIPE start next week. 😤

You’ll learn to carry God-assigned weight with renewed strength—without losing your joy. It’s an invitation to walk closely with Jesus and be formed into His likeness

- - - - - - -

Here is my “From The Author” section:

Thank you for being here.
This book isn’t for everyone.
Only for those hungry for Him, or ready to be.

These pages are my obedience. They were constructed late nights and early mornings, with honest edits that came from waiting on Him.

Worth it.

I sat on this for nearly eight years—face down in holes I dug, trying to rescue myself by my own strength instead of surrendering. You’ll witness that pain on the page. And still, I am learning. I am being refined. I’ve tasted sweetness made sweeter by the sour. Even in the lows, surrender is glory.

This isn’t an attempt to rewrite Scripture’s cup metaphors. The language may sound familiar, but my aim is simply to reframe how you see and live this Christian life.

I’ve rewritten the same line twenty different ways, questioning if it was too harsh for your palate or too soft to prick a response. You may find faults aplenty, but there is no forgery here. No fake. No fast talk. No forced opinions. Only what was given and wrestled through.

Here’s what I know: He wants to be with us so we become like Jesus. This is one man’s attempt to walk that rhythm—how He was filled, how He flowed.

A cup for me. A pipe to you.
All from Him, for Him.

My prayer is not that these words impress you, but that they impress Him upon you.

“He must become greater; I must become less.”
— John 3:30

Today I turned 49.
And I’d like to share 49 pieces of wisdom from my 49 years.

Over the decades I’ve collected truths that have shaped how I live, lead, love, and follow Jesus. Some learned through success, most learned through the pain of failure. And every single one of them has cost me something.

Rather than squeeze all 49 into one post, I’ve grouped them into seven collections. I’ll share one collection each day for the next seven days.

This first one is
BECOMING 1/7

We spend so much of life trying to shape the world around us. It’s championed and celebrated. We spend far less time allowing God to shape the world within us, yet one always precedes the other.

We do from who we are.

If we don’t like the results of what we’re doing, the more difficult and more valuable/worthy fix is to become a better version of ourselves so we do better and ultimately have better. And I promise you when the “having better” is for others, the satisfaction is far better.

My heart is that one of these seven pieces of wisdom serves wherever, however, and whoever you are today.

Maranatha Boys Cross Country team starts league out strong with 3rd place finish. 🏆

Bear took 2nd and showed a dirty kick at the end. He and a few other teammates ran sick or with shin splints. No excuses. They worked hard. Proud dad over here.

These gentlemen were the rest of our scoring five:
Jeremiah Vogel, 11
Jacob Jaffin, 12
Aiden Greer, 9
Joshua Martin, 9

And these studs also battled mid 90s temps on a super hilly course to round out our team:
Nathaniel Martin, 11
Yuhan Wang, 10
Hudson Barry, 9
Michael Zheng, 9
Ryder Barry, 9

We capped off the evening off with a team dinner celebrating birthdays for both Coach Gregory and Coach Vogel. 🎉

Last note: Mrs. Fournier and Lucy came out to support and that was special. The boys had huge smiles when they heard the sound when eagles cry. 🦅 taken in Escondido, California by @thedavidewing

Maranatha Eagles made some insane plays this weekend. In the end, a tough loss to a really good team. Hats off to Escondido Charter. 🤙

Couldn’t fit all the amazing plays, but there were some great improvisations, grit, and creative playcalling on both sides of the ball, including special teams (and yes, Ryan Niguidula did actually save that punt from the end zone). 😳

Proud to watch @mcs_eagles come back best they could. Every win is earned. Every lesson a gift.

On to the next.

Maranatha JV boys grabbed 10th place out of 30+ teams this weekend at the 34th Annual Downey Classic. @mcsathletics

Two JV runners broke top 50, both freshman:
Aiden Greer and Joshua Martin.
Rest of the scoring team:
Ryder and Hudson Barry
Michael Zhang

For this invitational, we had only one Varsity runner sophomore Rohen Ewing who took 24th out of 135 racers.
Thankful for @realdeal_wellness for the tune up on Bear.

Grateful to our school, coaches and parents. On to the next! All things.🦅 taken in San Diego, California by @thedavidewing

INTEGRITY & DISCERNMENT 7/7

Over the past week I’ve shared seven posts totaling 49 pieces of lived wisdom. Not because I’ve mastered them, but because they’ve truly been mastering me. Some were learned through success and most were learned through failure, broken relationships, difficult leadership decisions, seasons of waiting, unexpected kindness, answered prayers, and prayers still waiting to become the man available for their response.

And if there’s a thread running through all 49 it’s this:

The greatest work God wants to do will rarely be found outside of our ourselves first.

Before he increases our influence he must have access to our heart and subsequent motives. If we let him, he will teach us how to steward what’s already in our hands before he gives us more. This is meaningful work. It truly is what drives us and causes us, influences and refines us in our becoming.

Thank you for reading reflecting and encouraging me through text, DM’s and comments. Some of you have even blessed me with how you’re applying them. Sharing stories that made me cry. Beautiful and hard. I am grateful.

My hope and prayers that somewhere in these 49 lessons you found language you didn’t have for something that you’ve also been living. That you offered and found forgiveness. That you’re moving forward with more confidence than ever before.

Keep living. Keep becoming. 🙏 taken in United States America by @thedavidewing

Bear’s first ever cross country race is in the books with 261 athletes in his race @runwoodbridgexcclassic - he debuted with a solid 16:51.🤙

So proud of his effort these last 6 months (just started racing), especially in coming off a bad ankle injury this month he’s still rehabbing.👏

Grateful for his school @mcs_eagles @mcsathletics and his coaches Peter Gregory and Thomas Polhill and teammates. Super encouraging and inspiring.🙏

Big shout out to @miahvogel with a 16:24 - number four all time at Maranatha. Big PR.💪 And Jacob Jaffin hitting a 17:11, just 1 second off his PR. 💅

All things, young men! 🦅

RELATIONSHIPS & HUMAN NATURE 6/7

Firstly, let me be clear that simply because people have been this way to you or to me, or that you have been or that I have been this way, does not mean we need to stay in that place of immaturity or foolishness. We must forgive and be forgiven. We look to make it right, if possible.

It’s a tough pill to swallow… Admitting you missed the mark, but it’s tougher to continue to miss it. It’s why we need to renew our mind on the daily. It’s why we need accountability. It’s not a dirty fourteen letter word.

So often the pendulum swings between two unhealthy extremes and we miss the sweet spot. When we’re hurt, we stop trusting. When we’re disappointed, we stop hoping, and when we’re betrayed, we stop loving, but those are the very things we must have and do to move forward.

Trust. Hope. Love.

Any time we ignore what is obvious because we’d rather preserve the fake we’ve grown accustomed to, then face the reality of personal responsibility for our own lives.

Maturity asks us to see people honestly while continuing to love them well. Yes, sometimes at a distance. I still pray for leaders at old jobs, churches or friend groups that have abandoned me, rejected me or slandered me… Hurt me so bad I felt like I didn’t want to get out of bed. Rejecting cynicism while not embracing naivety is a tension we must learn to operate in.

Emotions will shove the pendulum to the extreme and are typically driven by pain. I’m convinced that sometimes the reason it feels good in the moment is because for that moment it engages with the sweet spot. That place where we’re meant to live.

The challenges is we use such force to get us out of one extreme only to end up on the other side. That sweet spot is short-lived. That’s the window to a deep satisfaction. It’s holy response to unholy acts against us.

And it’s only achievable if we check our emotions and place them in their proper order. We don’t deny them or invalidate. I read somewhere that emotions can have opinions, but they don’t get to vote. That’s wisdom.

It’s worth practicing for the rest of our lives. 🙏
