Nashville Story Part B: Since 2020, I’ve been spending a fair amount of time learning more and more about guitar. I started playing when I was 14, played in original bands, recorded a couple albums but realized there was so much I didn’t know. Somehow, YouTube introduced me to @guthrietrapp. His articulate playing and passion for sharing his knowledge was incredibly inspiring to me. What he was saying made sense. Never having had guitar lessons, I always battled my way through learning riffs and chords on this 6 stringed animal. Guthrie helped make the finger board make more sense. So, when I knew I was heading to Nashville on my guitar adventure, I knew I had to see he and his band perform live. Watching his YouTube videos always impressed me. Seeing and hearing him and his band perform live absolutely blew my mind. Crazy dynamic range and all players showcased their incredible skill set. This performance alone would have made this a rewarding trip. Thanks @guthrietrapp for sharing your knowledge and being such a great influence on guitarists striving to understand the craft. #thededkats taken in The 5 Spot by @thededkats

It started with a guitar video, a purchase, a friend, and some great memories. Who doesn’t love a great guitar story??
So browsing Instagram one fine winter morning, @fordthurstonmusic shares a video about guitars he is selling, one being a ‘64 Gibson SG Murphy Lab light aged. I’ve been eyeing one of these for a while. The price seemed right and Ford is a ridiculously charismatic salesman and incredible guitarist so we made the deal. The trick, I’m in Canada and the guitar is in Nashville. Enter Karl. This is a great friendships built on trust and mutual love for music. Karl didn’t hesitate to be the pick up man to bring this guitar to my collection. He housed the SG for a few months before I could free up time and make it Nashville to visit and pick up the guitar. While in Nashville, we visited the greatest guitar shops @gruhnguitars @cartervintagebackstage and @officialgibsongarage. Crazy thing is I bumped into @fordthurstonmusic at Gibson Garage and shared that I was finally in Nashville to pickup the guitar I purchased from him. Crazy coincidental run in.
We also hit @robertswesternworld for some tequila and killer old country music and hit @the5spotnashville to catch @guthrietrapp The Guthrie Trapp Trio, which were mind blowing and deserves their own special story.
Anyways, thanks Karl, and thanks Nashville for an incredible guitar story. #thededkats taken in Gibson Garage by @thededkats

Getting to see two Tommy Stinson shows in less than two months couldn’t be more fulfilling to my musical soul. I absolutely love his clever song writing style and his love for rock n roll is infectious.

@tommystinson brings true rock and roll energy. Starting with an acoustic set and finishing with a fierce full band set, he blew mind. Just what I needed on a Friday night in Detroit. #thededkats @smallsbar by @thededkats

If you haven’t heard The Black Crowes new album “A Pound of Feathers”, I strongly suggest checking it out. And, this interview with Rich Robinson shares fantastic insight on his playing style and song writing. https://youtu.be/9eYSGsifdjE?si=WgpIpmK_4TWqYc1h by @thededkats

Somehow I wasn’t exposed to Wilco and Jeff Tweedy’s passion for guitar creativity. I’m so glad I am now exploring his music and love for music and guitars.
